  1. That is an interesting article. Thanks for sharing! I found an eHow article on food sources for CLA. It seems beef, milk, butter, chicken, eggs are all good sources, especially if the animal was grass fed. Here's the article: Open Original Shared Link Of the plain oils, sunflower and safflower have the most CLA. Pretty interesting, eh, since those...

  3. Yes, it will gluten you if you share an oven with someone that either currently uses it for gluten items, or if it was previously used for them in the past and hasn't been de-glutened. Does not matter what type of oven it is, it needs to be gluten free--even a microwave. Otherwise you are being exposed to gluten circulating in the hot oven air. If it wasn...
  4. As far as these digestive enzymes that help break down gluten supposedly, I have to report that if taken immediately, they can help, or at least have helped me. They are no profilactic to take all the time however. It is likely you have already heard this, but just in case you haven't, I will mention this again. Taking charcoal capsules after one has...
  5. Thank you Riss for your informed reply. I do think however given my own experience and that of others that one can and does heal even if one is a lot older--although I agree, it is common sense that the younger one addresses these issues, the easier its got to be. Nevertheless, in counterpoint, my boyfriend is a good example. I could say for myself,...
  6. Tonight we had thin beef sirloin tip with garlic, peeled white sliced potatoes boiled and served with butter, and cooked green beans. A simple meal, but delicious! These days I seem to crave beef twice a week. It gives me more energy. I just make sure I have some pancreatic enzymes to help with the digestion and I am fine. It was a nice antidote actually...
  7. Hi Caroline, In effect I was a self taught herbalist for many years, although roughly a year ago I discovered I have salicylate sensitivity and thus can't tolerate most herbs at all anymore. So now I am looking at homeopathics and finding some solutions. Meanwhile for you going the herbal direction, however, I would highly suggest you take dandelion...
  8. Am glad to hear you are beginning your journey on a positive, humorous note. It does help to keep up that amusement! Just wanted to note that I would be careful of pre-made food from TJ's especially, though elsewhere too. Both my bf and I had to learn the hard way that a lot of TJ's supposedly gluten-free food is not actually completely gluten-free due...
  9. Just wanted to add that both my boyfriend and I experience ataxia as well as migraines and slurred speech with difficulty finding the right word associated with being cross contaminated with gluten. And yes it very much is like being drunk, but not so fun since its not on purpose. Both of us have had severe gluten intolerance more than likely since as...
  10. These are all mostly good, though for you (like me with Sals) I'd watch out for the Borage Oil.I take a little plain Cod Liver Oil instead. Not quite the same, but what can you do?? We are all different in our needs, and those with Salicylate Sensitivity have to be careful of their supplement sources. I also find taking Chlorella (not from Japan or northern...
  11. AVR--you should have your daughter checked out for salicylate/phenol problems too. She might be having sulpher uptake problems. Does taking epsom salt baths help relieve some of her joint pain?? There are various No Fenol products out there as well as the low salicylate etc. diet you no doubt are now aware of. If she can't always take a bath, a half hour...
  12. Jen I think you are exactly right! Having someone(s) on the inside to create more awareness of a possible income flow for your restaurant corporation is a more positive and effective stance than what I was thinking of. Certainly I would be willing to sign email letters of support for your project. As far as my idea so far (such as it is given its infancy...
  13. Hi BW, Sounds to me like you are sensitive to more things than just gluten, assuming you are avoiding all possible cross contamination (CC) with gluten and trace amounts in various supplements/vitamins, cleaning material and shampoos, lip gloss, working with fresh cut materials like dry wall and dry powdered fix all, wet latex paint, fresh cut press wood...
  14. Hi Jswog, Good for you concerning Darden corporate! Meanwhile have you considered either starting a local support group or attending one and see if you could get their support? Even here on celiac.com perhaps you could start a thread so folks could help you by participating in a coordinated write in campaign to the Darden corporate group which...
  15. I hate to say it but it is very possible you are still getting some trace cross contamination which could be causing at least part of the depression. Have you changed your vitamins and minerals, lipstick, eye shadow, etc. as well as shampoo, soap, body lotion, toothpaste, mouthwash etc. to all gluten free?? Not to mention using your own dedicated cutting...
  16. Don't get me started about doctors and hospitals. Grr! One thing I am thinking of is starting a local celiac/gluten sensitive group that not only supports each others diet awareness as well as social/emotional issues, but can also help act as advocates when one has to go to the hospital. It is now just occurring to me that it would be a good idea for...
  17. Just be careful. I believe echinacea, despite all its wonders, is an immune stimulant--something we as celiacs need to avoid. I believe goldenseal is OK--though its worth checking out further considering your sals problem. Dandelion traditionally is safe however both for celiacs and borderline sals folks. Parsley and garlic are completely safe all around...
  18. Myself--I have always been sensitive to Linseed...AVR, Not meaning to put a wet blanket on it, however with Sals I learned much later you have to be careful of seeds and nuts in general... Bea
  19. Don't give up. I know its hard sometimes, but honestly I doubt you have refractory sprue. Like you said you are sensitive. Taking those supplements that did not say gluten free was a bit like Russian Roulette, eh? And now you suffer. As I would, as would many here. Some even have to figure out where their food is grown in order to avoid cross contamination...
  20. Glad to be of help. Hadn't heard that about Playdoh!! Does it have gluten in it?? Or Phenols?? I have had contact poisoning just from touching wintergreen and aloe... Let us know how it goes and what you discover. I too am still discovering more over time. For some of us it takes a while... Am so very greatful I am sleeping better these days. The...
  21. Unless you have salicylate problems (like I do) I hear that taking charcoal capsules for a day or two really helps shorten the CC glutening episode. As well as drinking lots of water, taking acidophilus etc. I suggested it to a friend and it really helped him. Instead of suffering for weeks as he so often does, it shortened his symptoms down to a day. Both...
  22. Could also be salicylate and/or phenol sensitivity. Might be worth looking into. If epsom baths and/or baking soda helps against the itching and twitching, its a good indicator... If it is salicylate or phenol sensitivity, you can find info and both acceptable and non acceptable food lists by trolling the internet. Hopefully it isn't so bad you have to be...
  23. Hi Bny, Its very possible that you either have either a or some additional food sensitivities due to leaky gut syndrome -- now uncovered due to your going off the gluten (gluten flattens or scars the villi creating leaky gut). Or you might have what I have: phenol and/or salicylate sensitivity. Both salicylate sensitivity and gluten intolerance/celiac...
  24. I agree--it is cause to celebrate! Am glad to hear you are on the road to recovery and have a supportive work environment. The more people that know about who all gets it--and see their recovery, the better they understand it. Who knows, there may be others affected by celiac or severe gluten intolerance at your work site too. Bea
  25. Hi Padma. You make some very good points. I checked out the hand sanitizer you mentioned. Could you tell me what the ingredients are? They don't seem to be listed. I doubt if the previously suggested baby wipes would be safe for me --since even though there is no alcohol, I react to the herbal ingredients due to salicylic acid sensitivity. Aloe for...
