I so relate. Funny how often thyroid disease goes away once one is on a gluten free diet. My co-worker and good friend Graeme used to have Hashimotos. That is not supposed to happen: "Used to". I had a doc years ago who thought I had a low thyroid and put me on thyroxin. I developed too high a thyroid that year as a result. My eyes were even bugging out. I tend to suffer from constipation too even after all this time if I don[t take certain measures. I usually take a little extra magnesium citrate with my other minerals and vitamins plus often drink dandelion tea before or around meal times--both of which help out a lot. Sounds good to me too. With the meat, if you can, try cutting back on the fat part and see if it helps. Here's hoping you don't have to get rid of gluten entirely and that these changes you are making will be enough. If not, well, I think now you have a better idea of what to do. Bea

I suggest just eating plain brown cooked rice, steamed or boiled veggies and skinless cooked chicken for a while to calm everything down. Then later on you can experiment with adding in a food item one at a time every two or three days or so, or even just once a week. Avoid sugar like the plague, as well as processed foods. Here's a link concerning liver and gall bladder disease being linked to celiac. It happens a lot apparently because the first thing damaged for the villi is their ability to absorb/deal with fat. This then really stresses out the liver etc. It so amazes me that more doctors don't just see this, but so many live in some other dimension I won't even comment...

That is a great idea mushroom--though now they have those backpacks with wheels too. That is what I used in NYC a few years ago when I went on vacation. It went with me everywhere. I too could not carry anything on my back without severe pain. By the way, in retrospect, the fact I needed to be completely gluten free but did not know it added to my distress...

I think maybe you should see a naturopath. The following suggestions in the meantime might help you out: To me it sounds like your liver is stressed as well as your bowels. I bet if you ate home made cultured foods it would help you out--like unpasteurized yogurt and/or sauerkraut--esp. if you have ever had a lot of antibiotics and/or were bottle fed...

I think Prickly Pear is right. A compounding pharmacy is a good idea. If you have the cash sometime you might want to consider employing a naturopath. They are more likely to be with it concerning these issues as compared to the standard AMA practices. Something you can do for yourself at home would be to investigate acupressure. It might help with the pain if nothing else. It also can help with detoxing, especially at the base between the big toe and the second toe on top of the foot. -

Very good advice by Takala and others. Sticking with the basics is really the best. Even with the brown rice I find its necessary to really wash it well several times before cooking. You could try a semi macrobiotic diet. Of course it includes a lot of rice. Hopefully that won't be a problem. If it is, then the paleo diet may be for you.
