The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
YoloGx replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I made black bean vegetable soup with a largish chopped yam to replace the carrots and an addition of brown rice added in my bowl at the end. The soup had a large chopped thoroughly washed leek, around 7 chopped celery stalks and a fair amount of green beans, chopped fennel, an entire bunch of chopped parsley, and about 6 or 7 chopped garlic cloves. ... -
ARCHIVED Me And Sister Feel Absolutely Terrible
YoloGx replied to Chalula88's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi I just wanted to say I really feel for you two. I have gone through similar symptoms and back then no one seemed to know or acknowledge anything. They just thought I was too sensitive! I would get sick for months at a time. The thing is is that I have far more severe reactions to gluten than most, and you two may also. The reacting to things from a... -
Not to discourage you, but I doubt the cardiologist will help you with prevention issues. He or she will probably say you are fine and send you on your way. A naturopath might be a better choice. You definitely should make sure your vitamins and other supplements are entirely gluten free, as well as avoiding trace gluten from other sources. It is also...

Are you eating or drinking things with excitoxins in them? That could just do it. Things like most soy (strongly fermented kind is fine), nutrasweet etc., MSG and its variants (hydrolyzed vegetable protein etc.), carageenan. They make the food taste better but fire up your mitochondria too much and eventually kill them off. This can mess with your nerves...

Excellent! Like the other poster suggested,, ginger is a good addition. I do suggest too that initially you don't overdo things. By all means get out a bit when you feel better, but also let your body get plenty of rest to make sure you don't have a relapse. Bea -

Actually for me its the salicylates in the lemons that give me problems. I can handle a bit now and then, but then overdid them since they are supposed to be good for cleaning out the liver and gallbladder. It is limiting without the lemons since I have very few spices I can use. Just parsley, fennel, leeks and garlic. That is it. Nevertheless, now... -

Brown rice, green beans and trout. Mmmm! Seems of late I am going more macrobiotic due to gall bladder issues. Am giving my black beans a two day soak. Will have them with digestive enzymes. Since I have gone off all other meat than fish (and only have it once or twice a week), plus am off lemons (which I still seem to be sensitive to) and taking basic... -
Hi Caroline, Hope you and your kids had a wonderful, healthy New Year celebration with your gathering of friends and folks. My boyfriend Chris and I actually went to a party yesterday--an art closing a friend of ours had as well as a New Years Day celebration. Chris played music with some other folks and I read poems afterward. I also did a line...

ARCHIVED Fighting Upper Respiratory Infection

Assuming you don't have salicylate sensitivity (like me these days and thus can't have most herbs or spices) the following are great for colds, flu, bronchitis etc.: Olive leaf is a good idea. It is anti viral, anti microbial and anti biotic. If you get the extract make sure it is gluten free. I think just slowly boiling up your own leaves is just as good... -
Hi Caroline, I am glad to hear that your kids are starting to feel better! So far I think I will have a quiet New Years this year. We had a big Thanksgiving and then spent Christmas with a friend. I am still recovering from this gall bladder thing so do not want to do anything big. We are also building a shed--so that may be what we will be focused...

I hope you are right and are not salicylate sensitive. However I think it may be worth checking out a bit more given your particular food sensitivities. Here's the salicylate site in case you are interested. You just might find it helpful. The forum might be a place to check out too besides the food lists... Open Original Shared Link The good thing...

Hi Caroline-- I thought you might have a salicylate condition due to the things you mentioned that you were allergic to--particularly coconut, most fruit (except banana), flax, avocados plus the getting puffy from some meals and only tolerating potatoes now and then. I would look at the salicylate lists of low to medium to high sals and just see. I did not...

I'd read your estranged partner is probably trying to get into your good graces, if not more... But then what do I know?? Most people in my experience do not think peppermint is "such strong stuff" unless they have a sensitivity to it. Hmmm...?Really do check on the salicylate thing. Maybe a homeopathic remedy for your kids might be better??! Are your...

Are you sure Caroline if you might not have a low level salicylate sensitivity? It sounds to me like you might.

Hi Caroline, Hope you are starting to feel better from the flu! Reba is entirely correct--often eating less or no sugar and no pre-packaged anything helps the hormones and everything else. Back to the basics is the best healthy food there is usually. Also be careful of cross contamination. If you have been getting some trace gluten in your system...

It sounds to me like you could really be having a problem with salicylates or oxyaltes. I suggest you check it/them out online. There are various lists of low to moderate to high salicylate foods for instance. It could explain a few things. For myself personally I avoid carrots since they are quite high in salicylates. I had a reaction to them long before...

This is very good advice, though I personally can't tolerate any dairy at all except for plain yogurt--and the home made 24 hour variety is best for me. At this point even butter is a bit of a problem--for my liver and gall bladder it seems, though that isn't so much of an allergy as a sensitivity to the fat. Am now following a mostly vegetarian diet...

I am still lactose intolerant, though less than I was. I can now tolerate homeopathic tablets for instance even though they give me a bad taste in my mouth. Its now been four years. I make my own yogurt and ferment it for 24 hours--so all the lactose is gone. For those that cannot handle casein, of course it still would not agree with them. But for the...

Just wanted to add that salicylate sensitivity can also create IBS. I have both quite severely--most don't, but some do. Its not uncommon for those with SS to at least have some gluten sensitivity. Might also be a direction to look into...

You should also contact Entero labs and get a stool based test concerning gluten intolerance. It often does not show in blood tests. The bottom line however is to just go off the gluten completely and see if you do better or not. Obviously nothing else is working. Tests don't always show if one is severely gluten intolerant. Celiac has been given a narrow...

Hi Caroline, Hope today you are feeling a little less bloated. I just wanted to add that nettles might be a good addition to the dandelion and marshmallow root. The nettles are good for a lot of conditions and specifically good for the liver, skin, excess mucous and detoxing gently. I have read someplace or other they are good for female complaints too...

ARCHIVED What Do You Do For The Pain?
YoloGx replied to TTNOGluten's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am starting to use acupressure. There are a number of books online that look very helpful. I got a couple myself just recently. I am finding it is really helping both me and my boyfriend who also has severe gluten intolerance!! Exercise also helps, once I am over the worst of it. I also find that taking detox herbs really helps since usually the liver... -
Hi Caroline, Sorry to hear you are having so much trouble! How awful to get the super bloat! It would be nice to know which herbs you are taking and for how long--and what your diet is like besides being off gluten. Not being able to see you I don't know, however I suspect you might be reacting to something. I for instance cannot tolerate Dong Quai...

ARCHIVED Psychological Effect Of Extreme Fatigue.
YoloGx replied to Susandeoliveira's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree. I especially see this in my friend Graeme, who is still struggling since he also has other difficulties too. Its always difficult to know in his case if the psychological is outweighing the physical or not. The body/mind connection is so very intertwined in all of us. Thing is though you are better. Which is wonderful! But the difficult part...
