ARCHIVED Back To Basics gluten-free Diet
YoloGx replied to YoloGx's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I need to try this. Seems they take the same amount of time whether roasted or steamed, eh? I have a whole bunch of brussel sprouts, so why not? Meanwhile Graeme is making his crock pot chicken vegetable soup. He puts the chicken in with water the first day, then lets it sit in the fridge over night so he can remove the cake of chicken oil in the morning... -

Despite my above post, am doing blender veggies again and am loving it! Saw a special on Montel about it. Of course did not buy his $200 blender, however it reminded me how good it can be as well as how good for one. A real pick me upper!! Montel apparently has MS and it has helped him feel way better. I just cut up my harder, thicker veggies, add the other... -

Uncooked veggies are good, if your digestive system can handle it--but not so if not (does that make sense??). At any rate, I find as the cold weather increases, I agree with the Chinese that cooked veggies are generally better. -

I often steam my green vegetables and then eat them with a little salt and olive oil or butter or coconut oil. They are also good as you say in soup -- especially kale (just remember kale takes longer to cook than most other greens except for brussel sprouts). Stir fries are a delicious way to prepare greens. I like to use some chopped ginger and onion... -

Thanks Jan for the suggestion. The eating leafy greens before most meals sounds like a really good idea. Didn't realize it could be so healing in and of itself, however it makes sense. I know when I start the day with a salad I do better than not. Bea -

Hi Jan, Good to see you here too! Am glad the SCD is working for you. Meanwhile , did you know that flax seeds and apple pectin are not SCD approved since they are mucilaginous? Aside from that, they have this powdered apple pectin you can buy...I too have trouble eating apples but the pectin for me is fine... You could however not use the pectin... -

Am finally starting to feel better. Seems taking detox herbs earlier and then drinking 2 glasses of fresh lemon juice in water with stevia this evening is helping to resolve my headache. I have definitely learned my lesson--absolutely not to eat an egg two days in a row and especially not to do so with cheese that same day... -

Hi Woolygimp, I was just reading about celiac and Addison's--and for what its worth, apparently it is speculated that John F. Kennedy likely had that combo. too. He also had what was diagnosed at the time as IBS, chronic diarrhea, migraines and osteoporosis besides the Addison's. Back then all they knew to treat him with was steroids. Fortunately now... -

Hi Angle, I agree with you--the stevia takes getting used to but once done its great. I actually went off all sweetners for a while, so maybe that made it easier. I also noticed its best not to use stevia with something that is bitter--like coffee for instance (though I don't drink coffee since its too much of a stimulant for me). I didn't know if you... -

Hi Ali, Nice to see you here! Am glad you like the thread and approve of this basic foods middle path; it is a nice compliment to have you participate herein. I am also very glad that the extra water you are drinking is working so well for you. I agree with you about the coconut; its possible the trouble some people have with it could be die off. Though... -

Hi Patti, I guess the difference in taste between squashes is what made me not go with the spaghetti squash. I plan to rectify that soon however! Brussel sprouts are very good and worth the extra trouble of having to steam them longer than most veggies. I like them with butter and a little fresh lemon juice. Vinegar would work too--esp. apple cider... -

Hi Angle--here's what I've got from my files for the fermented cabbage juice. I need to try it too. Never got around to it. But now I do have the cabbage and a large jar...so just may do so later on today or in the next few. Looks like I may have to get some bottled water first. I have a filter, but am not sure if it gets out enough of the chlorination..... -

Its so great to see more of you on here--Janet, jersey angel and Lisa! Its nice to know I am not alone in following this back to basics "middle path"! Am glad to hear about how to bake spaghetti squash. I previously tried to boil mine--and it just wasn't very tasty--and so gave up on it. I don't eat tomatoes very often and thus haven't thought about... -

Hi Jan, The reaction to fruit and ground up grains is why I started avoiding grains...just to keep things simple. I decided to on a semi-paleo or cave man diet, like I did years ago when I was getting rid of candida overgrowth back in the late eighties. I thought at first with the SCD I would be able to actually expand my diet. Aalthough I could for... -

Lucky girls! All I really seem to tolerate as far as fruit goes are lemons...which I sweeten with stevia to make lemonaide. I keep wondering if it is or is not a fructose allergy... I am actually OK these days with (gads!) brown rice! If it was just candida et al I am betting this would not be the case. Bea -

Hi McPhena--nice to have you wander this terrain with me! Let's try to make a go of it. Please let me know what kinds of things you want to explore. I needed to go off grains to heal long term celiac--and both the Paleo Diet and the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD) diets do that. Going off the grains for 10 months really helped me--but now it seems like... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
YoloGx replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Dear Ali--if drinking enough water resolved celiac, I would have cured my celiac years ago. Celiac is not caused by dehydration. However dehydration may exacerbate a whole host of problems, including celiac or (more likely) gluten intolerance. The image I use is of a pond that is all blocked up. Pretty soon it becomes all murky and foul without sufficient... -
Like at least some here, I have tried both the Paleo and the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. Neither really fits me although both have helped given their avoidance of the standard American diet--even the gluten-free variety. What I propose is a diet based on both simplicity and moderation. Eat whole foods. Don't emphasize too much of anything. Avoid sugars and...

Water is such a basic thing many don't notice how necessary it is. I feel fortunate I have done so for years. I was astounded several years ago when my partner's Chinese herbalist/acupuncturist didn't take into account how little water Graeme was drinking. It took a year before I got through to him about that...!! For me however, I know I have celiac... -

Hi Woolygimp, I can understand your concern about fad diagnosis. However, despite our various seeming at times "over enthusiasms", generally we are trying to discover more things that support our good health--whether they are on the usual radar or not. The SCD is very helpful, but sometimes doesn't do the whole thing by itself, or is only part of the story... -
Just wanted to add that taking olive leaf extract or olive leaf tea might really help against the aspergillus! Start slow and work your way up. I don't know what kind of fungus I have but whatever it is it has been intractible. This olive leaf is really helping.Good against all kinds of fungus, microbes, bacteria, viruses... Am taking it with a few other...

Hi Ali--I discovered years ago some salt is actually good for me. I was way low on salt since I used to always half the amount. I think when they refer to needing a low salt diet its in reference to those who actually have a high salt diet--which I never have had since I don't eat preserved meats or fast foods etc. I ordered the large salt crystals which... -

Good to see you here Michelle. Sounds like you are doing some good sleuthing! These days I am liking the olive leaf tea or olive leaf extract capsules best as antifungals as well as anti virals, anti bacterials and anti microbials. That and Neem leef and neem oil. Both trees seem to have similar principals. Kills the fungus and virus etc. without harming...
