  1. The specific carbohydrate diet thread here on celiac.com (led by AliB) has a recipe for making soured cabbage using acidophilus as a starter--as well as the 24 hour yogurt etc.. You might want to look it up. Bea
  2. "You may be right about the combination of the herbs Bea, they can be very potent and the different chemical processes could perhaps conflict in some way. The other possibility is though that perhaps your body is trying to get rid of some of the crud that the herbs are dealing with?" AliB Hi Ali. I think you are right on both counts -- too powerful...
  3. I am experiencing D again. Perhaps from working too hard SAt. through Monday doing some much needed roofing before the rains came. Got it done in the nick of time but the last 2 days I have been running to the bathroom altogether too much. I started combining olive leaf tea with dandelion and yellow dock to counteract the effects of working with all that...
  4. Sorry you are going through this! Magnesium citrate usually works like a champ against C--sart with 500 mg. and slowly increase to bowel tolerance. If its too soft, dial back a little. Yellow Dock and Dandelion Root are also helpful. Additioally eating lots of cooked greens is very helpful. The 24 hour yogurt and/or fermented cabbage might also help restore...
  5. I honestly still think the puffy stomach is either some new allergy or sensitivity that has popped up (no doubt caused by leaky gut issues due to the celiac) and/or some kind of fungal or yeast overgrowth that finally asserted itself. To find out I would simplify my diet to just basics (like easy to digest meat -- such as chicken that you bake or stew yourself...
  6. I don't get D either generally unless I get glutened or am ill. The SCD has helped me in many ways, however I also have candida overgrowth so I can't tolerate most of the goodies the diet offers. thus no fruit or honey etc. Plus I don't tolerate almonds, used for the SCD bread. And I don't eat tomatoes or peppers very often without an allergic response....
  7. It may be that you are low in an ability to metabolize vitamin B1 which is needed for both protein and carbohydrate digestion and full utilization. With this difficulty it gives one beri beri like symptoms--and thus the ammonia and liver problems etc. etc.! I have this problem--and finally counteracted it by taking co-enzyme B complex from Country Life on...
  8. It is very possible you are allergic to other things--and that going off all gluten has brought evidence of this out more. Lactose intolerance, especially at first, for instance is very common. It may be too you need to take some digestive enzymes. In addition its also possible you might also have candida overgrowth. If so, its likely you need to take...
  9. Hi Camile--thanks for the heads up about the echinacea. For some reason I didn't realize that it was an immune stimulant--though I have not preferred taking it. Someone at an herb store recently told me taking vitamin D is helpful against the swine flu. I personally have found that both olive leaf tea and elderberry flower are very good against viruses...
  10. Hi Ali, Here's info from this one site on olive leaf: Open Original Shared Link You can make tea from the powder directly--or just brew up the leaves for 3 minutes or so--or put them in a slow cooker for 6 hours depending on how carried away you want to get. I find just making the tea from the powder that I grind up more than adequate--I make extra...
  11. Hi Ali--you are so right about how regaining one's health often takes time. Some see effects soon but for others it is much later. In part depends on how much one was doing to heal beforehand. Meanwhile I have both read and found that the olive leaf tea is just as effective as the extract. As is I would not recommend the extract since its usually done...
  12. Its nice to "talk" with you Ali. You always have interesting comments. The thing about the coconut oil could really help Graeme. I'll mention it. Could for me too as you say for my nerves. And maybe not stress out my kidneys too?? Yes--I have had this dysbiosis for as long as I can remember. As a small child I used to always wake with a "frog" in my throat...
  13. My house mate who also has severe celiac and is mainly on this diet also has real trouble with digesting fats--so you aren't alone. Something to do with sluggish bowels and not enough bile releasing from his liver etc. to get things going. Dadelion tea and other "bitters" can really help with this... Currently I am having trouble with too much protein...
  14. Similarly to you, I had to change my diet even more after a year or so on the full anti celiac diet. What's helped for me is to go off all grains as well as potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, yams, sweet potatoes, nuts, all milk except 24 hour plus yogurt (home made) and of course all sugars. Due to too much candida tendencies I have also had to avoid all fruit...
  15. That happened to me from eating cheddar cheese! Also happens when I get CC'd from gluten as well as a whole bunch of other symptoms. 24 hour home made yogurt is just fine for me however... Bea
  16. I think there is a recipe or two for bread suitable for sandwiches in Elaine's Breaking the Vicious Cycle book. Haven't tried them myself however since I am allergic to nuts. Bea
  17. I am confused. What are the basics of Angie's Diet? And why is it so named?? Bea
  18. I had a very bad reaction to cheddar cheese. My old injuries in my sacrum and L-5 acted up, are all inflamed with puffy lumps. Seems I still am allergic to all cheese, except for the yogurt cheese. Am crossing my fingers that it will be OK to cook with it. Aargh! This is so frustrating. So much pain. It will pass however. Am basically having to revert...
  19. That's wonderfull! I tried eating fully aged cheddar cheese and have had a recurrence --inflammation in my hip joints etc. Acch! Its so much better to stay on diet! Bea
  20. I find basically going off all grains has helped me a great deal against inflammation. I also now make 24 hour yogurt and from it, yogurt cheese (by dripping the yogurt). I am finding Elaine Gottschall's specific carbohydrate diet helpful (BREAKING THE VICIOUS CYCLE), although so far I still have to avoid all fruit except for lemons which I sweeten with...
  21. Any milk is fine--though whole milk is better...since its less likely to get scorched.
  22. Likely its an allergy, I have the same problem. Its OK if I eat them once a week however... Am now on a no grain diet (scd) and that seems to be helping. In the past I couldn't tolerate eggs (and a number of other things) at all...
  23. Hi Ali and Gluten Gal, I think apples are supposed to be OK as long as you don't get too carried away with them. But who knows?? I suppose you could try going off them and see if it helps. Berries are supposed to be safer according to some. I am just glad I now can eat tomatoes in moderation... As far as vitamins go, I realize they can be tricky...
  24. Hi Gluten Gal, Being all constipated can put pressure on your bladder, not to speak of your liver and the intestines themselves. I think its possible the scd could help you against the constipation. It has with me. I don't seem to need to take as much magnesium citrate as I used to. For the diet, you are supposed to go off things like potatoes, yams...
