  1. You could have other food intolerances since with celiac comes leaky gut, especially at first. You may also need to take B vitamins (co-enzyme ones are the most absorpable) and fat soluble vitamins like Vit. A. Fish oil is a good source since it also gives you vitamin D and Omega 3. Primrose oil might also help quite a lot. Further, pro-biotics might be in...
  2. I would tell people who ask that up until 15,000 years ago almost no one ate gluten or much in the way of grains in general. There was suddenly less big game which created a need for some kind of food supply alternatives. Gluten thus is a fairly recent addition to the human diet--it came with the agrarian revolution which in turn helped create more possible...
  3. Dear JMwong, I don't know why you were denied sending me a message--but thank you for the compliment of trying to! I will have to look and see what I may have de-activated. I think its fantastic that you are being so pro-active and supportive of your boyfriend. He is one lucky guy! So often so many of us have had the opposite experience--its so good to...
  4. Hi Sherry! Its nice to hear from you. As far as the candida overgrowth etc. business goes, the judge is still out. Although I didn't get as much flaking and inflammation I still got a distended abdomen after eating a small peach. Nevertheless that was a big improvement. I hate to think what would happen if I actually ate honey. It may be good for scd in...
  5. A lot of us are sensitive to other grains as well. I suggest you look into going off all grains for a while and see if that helps. There is a thread here about the specific carbohydrate diet which might help you out. Bea
  6. Hi everybody, I am discovering the 24 hour yogurt is really helping both me and my room-mate ("G"). We have been on a kind of a combined paleo/scd diet for roughly 8 months--after being off gluten for some time previously-- now besides being off all grains we are also off fruit and all sugars due to candida overgrowth plus nuts, potatoes/tomatoes etc....
  7. Thanks you guys for your support! Nancy, I think you are right--our diets are a lot like the cave man diet I went on years ago. Unfortunately I am very allergic to eggs and somewhat allergic to coconut. I actually overdid the coconut for a while and haven't tolerated it well since--but am hoping I will again soon. The home-made yogurt does seem to be...
  8. I just found this thread through looking up Ali (hi by the way!)--and am glad to see such a lively group. I have been eating sort of a cross between scd diet and paleo diet with my own modifications. I eat squash these days for carbohydrates--and avoid potatoes, yams etc. as well as all grains. I am allergic to all nuts (though sunflower seeds are completely...
  9. I look forward to the time when and if I can have a more varied diet. I just dug up the scd bible: Gottschall's Breaking the Vicious Cycle in hopes that I can find some helpful clues. So far all I can find is just having the yogurt ferment 24 hours. I have had poor success with anything that is fermented except for yogurt--though who knows, maybe by having...
  10. I believe you can order some kinds of testing through Enterolab online--at least you can for celiac, maybe vitamins too? anyone here who can help with this?? Bea
  11. Definitely gluten can contribute to these weird nerve pain symptoms. I have also discovered that taking co-enzyme B vitamin complex on an empty stomach helps resolve a lot of this. Has helped me recover my nervous system (the myelin sheath was down to 50% in 2005). Going off all trace glutens has also been essential. Now am on scd diet plus avoid other allergens...
  12. Has anyone here seen any info on this restricted no grain diet that also has no eggs, sugars, fruit, nuts, tomatoes/potatoes/green peppers, yams and sweet potatoes, cheese and milk (except for non fat plain yogurt)? It seems to be what my partner and myself have to rely on to become and stay healthy since besides celiac we also have candida overgrowth...
  13. I would get the blisters checked out for DH.
  14. You could also have some other allergen...or even candida overgrowth showing on your skin. But do check, maybe the other respondent is right and some gluten has snuck in somewhere or other... Bea
  15. Just to add a note--I have read the enzyme pancreatin is often in short supply when you have unregulated celiac. It doesn't mean however that you have pancreatitis its just that your intestines are having difficulty digesting anything given the disturbed and inflamed situation in the intestines. As your diet improves and your cilia begin to grow back you...
  16. I have read elsewhere that taking pancreatin or a vegetable enzyme substitute like bromelain/papain or a good plant enzyme mix is often recommended for those who have celiac for the first healing period. It is less needed later on. Nevertheless its also true that as we humans age we often need to take some digestive enzymes since our bodies produce less...
  17. Yay for you! Bea
  18. Whatever you have (and it could just be a severe response to gluten though I doubt it) it seems to me that the challenge with the cereal really messed you up and made you more sensitive than you were before. Unfortunately that often happens--with celiac. The endoscopy tests are not always correct. I suggest you take slippery elm and marshmallow root capsules...
  19. Yes yes and yes, unfortunately. I too have had to go off all grains. and sugars. Maybe once in a blue moon I have some wild rice after washing the raw grain several times before cooking. Many here who are very sensitive have had to go on a modified specific carbohydrate diet. Its not usually our first choice, instead it is a necessity. The positive health...
  20. I use cheapo Trader Joe's Tea Tree Oil bar soap, TJ's pure peppermint Castille Soap as a shampoo, and/or Desert Essence Organics Hair Care gluten-free shampoo or conditioner. Desert Essence also makes gluten-free lotions that are relatively cheap and gluten free. I have gotten them at Whole Foods. You can also order them online. Desert Essence has Jojoba...
  21. I am very sensitive too -- and have discovered that I needed to go off all grains as well as all fruit except for lemons and of course no sugary anything (I use stevia instead; you could order it online and/or grow it). I also avoid all nuts--and sesame. I eat a lot of sunflower seeds instead. I avoid tomatoes, potatoes and green peppers--the nightshade...
  22. Ditto to that!! Bea
  23. Remedies that work for me are to take extra enterically coated acidophilus, papain/bromelain capsules (or eat lots of fresh pineapple and papaya) and/or other enzymes, slippery elm capsules or make a porridge out of the bulk herb (soothes and takes down inflammation in the gut plus is a food those who can't eat anything else can tolerate), marshmallow root...
  24. Its likely that you need to decrease other potential allergens as well as the gluten. Likewise the bloating didn't go away for me (although other symptoms did) by eliminating gluten alone. I have needed to go off all grains plus most fruit to stop having a distended belly. I eat very close to the specific carbohydrate diet. You might need to too -- at least...
  25. I can't handle the nightshades or artificial sweetners either. As the other poster said, stevia powder is great! You can also grow it. I think its related to sage plants. A little goes a long way...and no calories! Its not good with everything, but it is good with many things--if that makes sense. Too much and it becomes bitter. Bea
