  1. Hi Splash. Um, yes, guys... Anyway about the DH--others I have advised here who do have DH have found that taking liver detox herbs really helps assuming they aren't infused in alcohol or immune stimulants. The reason being is that the liver gets overloaded downriver of the villi getting flattened when we get exposed to gluten due to undigested proteins...
  2. I don't get DH however I have gotten glutened several times from kissing guys I have dated. Each time I got a major reaction. And yes its often been beer or supposedly safe whiskey. (no, I don't drink alcohol...) I agree it really is socially inconvenient to put it mildly. You just have to be clear on this however. I am now imagining an invisible chastity...

    ARCHIVED Lost

What Jenny said is so very true. For me I tend to be low on B-1 which is essential for proper protein and carbohydrate metabolism. I actually got Beri Beri without being either a drunk or starved despite taking B complex for years. I discovered I need to take B-1 in a co-enzyme formula for better absorption so it goes directly into the blood stream rather...
  4. They have some really nice gluten-free cake mixes at WF. I made a b cake for my mom that way, was vanilla but nice (I added my own gluten-free non alcohol based vanilla). I made a carob frosting since I can't have chocolate. Of course the sugar was way too high for me and all my little candida beasties.... But nevertheless it was good and not permanent damage...

    ARCHIVED Lost

Hi Angie, I am sure it is frustrating. For some people its easy and for others it is hard. All of this takes time. Some of us have had this condition untreated for a very long time so it may take longer to heal or have more complications such as a leaky gut and a variety of food sensitivities as a result of long term damaged villi. It may be that you are...
  6. I agree with the above. Taco bell esp. is not a wise choice. CC is very likely. Given the bad gassy smell I would also highly suspect a candida or fungal overgrowth. You might want to cut down on flours of any type and if that doesn't work, then grains. Many of us have a low tolerance for any grains plus fungal overgrowth results from too much carbohydrate...
  7. Am at week three with this sinus infection! It does seem to go on however I am at a stage where I am at least partially functional, so have been working though a bit tired. Am now one week with the oil pulling. It does seem to reduce my sinus congestion. A definite plus! Even better, I seem to be sleeping much better!! I must have been missing too...
  8. Hi Traci, You are quite welcome! I like to help others when I can since I wish I hadn't had to learn the hard way. However I am very greatful for this site--this last year I have learned a lot just looking at celiac.com as well as several books and other things online. Meanwhile, just remember to look up what each vitamin does and how much is generally...
  9. My understanding is that once you have celiac you have it for life. Like for you it can go underground and then resurface, however damage is still being done internally during those underground years. I too was diagosed as an infant. Unlike you however I was put back onto gluten at age four. They thought I literally grew out of it since a big symptom for...
  10. Is it costly to get the stool test done? I am kind of curious myself... In all honesty I have been wondering if threelac would help more now than previously due to my now being off all trace gluten. Meanwhile I saw recently they sell gluten-free caprillic acid by Now. What brand did you use? Meanwhile I am discovering I can tolerate a small amount of...
  11. I hope it is OK to use the old pressure cooker as a pot. I am thinking of waiting to use it for a while however. Its old, and may have been bought used, so who knows what it was used for, though I haven't cooked glutenous items for many years. I have had this nasal congestion/throat irritation for over 2 1/2 weeks and just want to lose it. Am way better...
  12. Ditto with all the rest, especially the mold and the possible cross contamination of gluten from the kitchen. However there is another possible source--those mist "germ killing" fragrances and mist mold killing cleaners that have (grain) alcohol in them. Bea
  13. As far as the gums go, I just wanted to let you know that in the past I got exceptional results taking nattokinase with bromelain/papain or a general plant digestive enzyme on an empty stomache. It radically reduced the inflammation in my gums so I didn't need and haven't needed to get the gum treatment that my dentist wanted to do on me. This was 3 or 4...
  14. I have found digestive enzymes really do seem to help. Esp. the stuff they specifically have for digesting gluten. Meanwhile using things like enterically coated acidophilus, bromelain/papain and pancreatin help with accidental glutening as well as normally with a non gluten meal if you are still having any digestive issues at all. Sometimes I also use...
  15. Depends on how sensitive you are. If you have true celiac sprue I wouldn't eat their food. Otherwise you might be able to talk to the cook ahead of time and have them make something you could eat. For me, since I am extremely sensitive, I would just bring some Chinese like food of my own to eat on the side. Ask for an extra plate and maybe no one will...
  16. Am wondering if an old aluminum pressure cooker should be replaced. I used it as a regular pot to cook soup in and wonder if it "extended" my congestion so to speak. I have rarely used it otherwise. Am considering throwing it out. Bea
  17. In time you will more than likely feel better and better. If not, you may have other food sensitivities as well that you need to track down. Meanwhile things like marshmallow root and slippery elm should help heal your digestive tract. And enzymes like bromelain/papain and pancreatin will help you digest your food more easily. Taking enterically coated...
  18. Thanks for your insight. I'm with you on the candida problem being related. I don't think candida overgrowth however causes celiac, more like the reverse if anything due to undigested proteins and inflammation. Candida is so very opportunistic. I tried threelac by the way and it didn't really do that much for me. Going off all the trace glutens did more...
  19. I have reacted badly from kissing an ex boyfriend who drank distilled scotch whiskey. I got D and the works. I assume I got CC'd. So what gives? Is the distillation process of wheat and related grains really enough for some of us? This happened repeatedly until I figured out what was going on... Bea
  20. How awful! But not entirely unexpected... Even the Vikings used moldy bread to get themselves into a crazed state to go on a rampage. The opiates go directly into our brains if we have celiac. For many of us however its not just certain gluten foods. Its any and all gluten, even just a speck of it! I have noticed when I have gotten glutened by others I...
  21. Thanks Northern Elf. Yes I am in bed quite a lot resting and sleeping. Not doing much but taking care of myself. The oil pull seems to really have an effect. Immediately cleared my sinuses last night. My teeth and gums by the way feel great. However it also activated my lymphs in my chest so I was unable to sleep. Tried it again this morning. Am going...
  22. I plan to start doing this tonight to help counteract a sinus infection I have had now over a week. I am going to use olive oil since I am allergic to sesame and hear there are less Herxheimer effects with the olive than with the sunflower... I plan to put in a drop of peppermint oil in the olive oil nevertheless... And will brush before and after with baking...
  23. Thank you! I will check it out! Bea
  24. Has anyone else here gotten a bad throat/sinus or lung infection after being CC'd with gluten? This happened to me last year and now once again! I got this bug I seemed previously to be immune to for over two weeks, now worse than anyone else in my family--for me I immediately got copious yellow phlegm whereas theirs is just white. I have discovered the...
  25. I don't know about the vinegar. I do know I can't eat apples but can have the vinegar. But my "allergy" or reaction is I think to the fructose since I seem to not handle eating any fruit except lemons and cranberries! However given your sensitivity to apples, maybe don't use the vinegar. Straight lemon juice in water on the other hand might function similarly...
