  1. My understanding is that your body attacks the villi and flattens them when gluten is present in an auto immune response. If this happens enough you get scar tissue. In either case with the villi flattened you are unable or difficult to make use of certain basic nutrients, i.e., thus it causes malabsorption of things like Vitamin D, B complex, the minerals...
  2. I am busy getting ready for a art show right now however I want to get back to this subject later on. Thing is I have read the results of anthropological research which indicate that people used to live longer plus were taller and healthier before gluten was introduced in northern Europe. The thing that convinced many to go towards gluten however is that...
  3. Am glad to hear that my suggestions so far have been helpful! Can't they tell through a blood test and/or some kind of culture in a petri dish what kind of infection it is without removing the node? If you go off all sugars and quick carbs and experience withdrawal symptoms, and then feel better if you eat something sugary or quick carby -- as I previously...
  4. It is great news! What a relief! Do you know what kind of infection, bacterial or yeast? Also, if bacterial, be certain to do anticandida stuff afterwards to counteract the effect of the antibiotics. Candida is opportunistic and will likely flourish with the antibiotics. A good enteric coated acidophilus is de riguer. Bea
  5. My family is the same. Many of them think I am nuts. Several of them have the same condition but choose to ignore it. Me, I would rather be energetic and healthy rather than sick and achy all the time. I am finally starting to get some respect from them, but it comes slow. I have made about every mistake possible it seems with dating too but am finally getting...
  6. Last winter/spring I got CC several times and developed a bad lung and then kidney infection. It can happen. One's immune system is down when glutened. One trick I learned is to take my nice smallish (but large enough!) sleek thermos with hot tea in it plus take emergency food in an insulated, zippered bag with some blue icewhenever I go over to someone...
  7. You can go real slow to get rid of the fungal infection. I totally understand. It can make you crazy going through that die quick off. It may take forever but eventually you will get there. Just do the enterically coated acidophilus and enterically coated garlic perhaps and maybe oregano or thyme oil that you rub on your wrists and lymph points (those things...
  8. I'll look up the safety of dandelion and other of the heavy duty herbs as far as safety with breastfeeding. Wasn't thinking about that. However peppermint, chamomile are completely safe, as is marshmallow root and slippery elm. If you have had a bad reaction to capryllic acid, it really would indicate to me you probably have a yeast/fungal/candida overgrowth...
  9. I agree--don't freak out. Do have it checked further. But for the time being also consider natural remedies to turn things around like taking detox herbs for the liver, intestines and lymphs. That means dandelion or milk thistle (dandelion etc. for the liver--best to alternate these, one week on and then use the other herb the next, similar to the next...
  10. Everyone here is right, often one is allergic or sensitive to other foods with celiac, especially at first. Milk products are the worst at first although live yogurt is often OK and, for most, good after the first month or so at least. Basic foods like fresh cooked vegetables, some meat and root vegetables and brown rice are usually better tolerated than...
  11. I doubt the baking soda would hurt; it will probably help. The apple cider vinegar may help too.--esp. if its live like Bragg's or Trader Joe's. Don't try to eat anything solid yet. gluten-free Broth may be OK. Sorry this is lasting so long for you. When I got glutened from breathing in flour dust it took me three weeks to get over it. I ended up having...
  12. I am allergic to asperin. Thanks for reminding me about what it says on the side of the bottle however. I think if I had to have it I would take it in an emergency if that's all there was, just not taken very often...but kaopectate would probably be better. Meanwhile I use marshmallow root to soothe and heal the villi...though it doesn't stop the D....
  13. Pepto Bismol has helped me in a pinch, however it seems I am allergic to the salycic acid (sp?) (asperin) so my stool turns black--my chiro says that indicates internal bleeding.... So there are alternatives--kaopectate though I haven't used it as of yet. The alternative remedies do work for me. Glad the peppermint tea is helping by the way! Bea PS...
  14. Rumbles is probably right--see a Doc. However if it was me (and it has happened) and you like a more home grown variety of health care, I would try taking some baking soda in water (1/2 to 1 teaspoon in a glass of water chased by more water). I would also take or make up some slippery elm (gruel or caps). Marshmallow root caps or powder mixed in cold...
  15. That's wonderful! Wish my family was half as supportive. I am mounting an assault and gaining troops so to speak in this behalf since many in my family has this same condition. It just takes a lot of finegaling meanwhile for them to get it and be convinced its worthwhile and necessary. Meanwhile....I am hoping your gargle doesn't have (grain based...
  16. I wonder if coffee is OK for celiacs in general though I know many do use it--and it is a laxative. However it is also a strong stimulant, the last thing I am told that we need since celiac creates or is a byproduct of an overactive autoimmune system. Does anyone know what is first, chicken or egg? For me coffee a non issue since my kidneys are too sensitive...
  17. I just amended my suggestion by the way. Quick response mftnchn!! I didn't mention that the co-enzyme B vitamins help me too quite a lot. I have trouble making use of B-1 otherwise, needed in order to digest carbohydrates and proteins. My myelin sheath was down to 50% as a result. This all turned around by taking co-enzyme B complex by Country Life as...
  18. Hi, I know exactly what you are talking about. Here's what I do: To counteract intransigent constipation, I highly suggest you take magnesium citrate to bowel tolerance. Back off a bit when you get D. I take approximately 1 teaspoon a day, split into 2 doses (i.e., 1/2 tsp. at a time) along with calcium citrate (2 tsp. total also split into 2 doses...
  19. Wow! that truly is wonderful! A good thing to counteract some of the down political news right now .... Bea
  20. Thanks for this heads up. With my mom's place I cant be certain if it will always be gluten-free--so the sticky shelf paper is out as you say...! Has been fine for me but now I know why. It seems that it hasn't been there in my kitchen drawer long enough to work its way up on the corners--and even so I use no gluten in my kitchen. Bea
  21. I am wondering if the sticky shelf paper really is a problem since the sticky side is down and not in contact with the food...???? Was thinking of using an old roll I have for my mom's kitchen. She has wood cupboards that never had shelf paper on them, so I figure there is a lot of old stuck in gluten in the wood even after scrubbing. Any comment here would...
  22. Its a good question. And a big hassle if one just goes to a hospital here in the States!! Not to speak of getting into trouble. LOL!! One reason I really want to go to Europe. Both as an artist and a celiac I hear its a lot better over there... And no I have no desire to get into any more hot water than I already am just having to convince my recalcitrant...
  23. Hi Quack, Don't have much time to respond since its the work week for me. My brother with Down's however is slow to get going no doubt due to having been glutened several days with all that pie. I suggest that with your relatives and friends insist on what you need for you and your husband; the rest you can't make them do and they probably won't appreciate...
  24. Taz-that's pretty good. My grandmother, by the way, was born in Tasmania-- LOL! My blow ups have not been as frequent as yours. I usually go cool rather than hot. But anger is anger and this time I allowed it to blow. And certainly being glutened added both to the rationale and I admit, my crazed emotion. Much like the old Vikings would purposely eat moldy...
  25. Thanks for your continued support. I do feel a lot better today. I don't at all feel ashamed at how I reacted even if it was pretty extreme. For once I showed my family they can't just walk all over me. They deserved it. Nevertheless it is not how I choose to act normally. It takes pretty extreme circumstances to get me there. I haven't done the same...
