  1. Well--finally this works! Had trouble with the software for some reason. The whole dating thing for me since I have gone off all trace glutens has been difficult overall. Now finally I am dating someone who has celiac which makes it way easier, even though he isn't as pure about CC as I am. However initially back last November the guy I was dating...
  2. I think its good to have a balance rather than go to such extremes. Eating just meat and green veggies isn't enough. You need root vegetables if you can't tolerate any grains. However there are a number of ancient grains that are good--like quinoa, teff, amaranth etc. I find for myself that eating thoroughly washed brown rice (i.e.,washed 4 times to get...
  3. A lot of times before you go off gluten your body is so used to being messed up it can't tell when other things are bothering it too. Its all part of the same thing so to speak. I too have problems with milk like you, only yogurt and butter seems to be OK. Wish I could eat cheese or even kefir but really get ill if I do. I also can't have much in the...
  4. Its happened to me--last time was with cheese. Supposedly sharp cheddar is safe for many who have celiac but not for me. Probably not for you either. The only dairy I seem to be able to eat with no problem is organic, unsweetened yogurt. Even Kefir seems to be a problem for me. That and an allergy to yeast and tomatoes and peppers makes eating even gluten...
  5. I completely agree--though I can't have wine or tomatoes or potatoes etc. And am also sensitive to fruit and sugars. So many people seem to think basic cooking is hard; but really it isn't. Just a little creativity and one can have a great meal. I often make a rice coconut milk with veggies curry or some other gluten-free dish for a monthly art and poetry...
  6. Its my understanding that if you wash yourself or put on lotion on your body eventually some of that gets inside one since you scratch yourself, put fingers here and there, somehow fingers get in mouth or even more directly a strand of hair or you eat something with your fingers etc. Ditto with loved ones, you might kiss them etc. It can get in. So, if you...
  7. Sounds like a good piece of detective work to me! Bea
  8. I find bromelain/papain and pancreatin enzymes really help plus enterically coated acidophilus. It also helps me and a friend of mine to go on a detox--use dandelion root and either yellow dock or oregon grape root. I also like to use cleavers or echinacea as lymphatic cleansers. Don't use alcohol extracts by the way since they use grain as a base usually...
  9. I use Desert Essence Organics Apple and Ginger Shampoo as well as their Conditioner. Both are gluten free. My hair stylist tells me my hair looks really healthy these days by the way. A far cry from when my hair was always falling out and my scalp a mess. I avoid anything that has tocopherols in it unless they say they are gluten free or call it tocopherol...
  10. I've had similar problems. Even caramel coloring in soap and tocopherol in lotions etc. since in beauty supplies its often made from wheat germ. Going off all that made some long standing elbow and neck etc. joint problems go away, thank goodness! As well as improved my short term memory etc. Bea
  11. Thanks so much you guys! I will follow most of your suggestions. They all seem good so far. Wow, another extra thumb joint person. I haven't run in to anyone else with that. For me its just the left one. Yes I suggest you don't stress them even if it is entertaining. My left thumb joint only hurts occasionally now that I am taking extra minerals... I...
  12. Thank you guys for your info and commiseration. It does really suck to have this going on after everything I have already gone through. I thought I was doing right but apparently not. So still one more area to patiently work through. Arrgh! No doubt of course there will be others... so I need to look at this philosophically. I just got to thinking now I am...
  13. True about the vitamin D. I usually use cod liver oil but not all can digest it. If you can however its the best since it has omega 3's plus vitamin A. Many use capsules if they can't take it straight. I use 800 to 1000 IU's a day (usually two teaspoons or one capsule). Bea
  14. I am wondering if other people here have had ankle and hip joint problems recur after they thought they had healed from an accident years previous? I thought I had healed from the effects on my ankle and hip from a car accident years ago. The car accident was at the end of 2000. In it I sprained my right ankle and my hip went out of joint. It seemed like...
  15. I use E-zorb, which is calcium aspartate anhydrous. I believe it is made from plants. Its extremely absorpable (90%) and as far as I know there are no adverse reactions. I use magnesium citrate powder from Now. I have also used their magnesium carbonate powder. I also highly suggest taking either marshmallow root caps or slippery elm--or both to help heal...

    ARCHIVED Wondering

A lot of us can't handle eating milk products due to something about the molecules being particularly difficult to digest. Often after one has cured a bit then one can eat milk again. I seem to be one of the exceptions; at least so far all I can handle is yogurt. I'd love to be able to eat cheese but so far can't without suffering afterwards. I also get...
  17. Hmm--maybe taking too high a dose of probiotics all of a sudden is why I have had a recurrence of bladder inflammation? I thought maybe it was just a new boyfriend... However instead of D like you Collette I have gotten constipated! I took some remedies last night I found on the Net that helped get rid of the pain in my ureter but they gave me a...
  18. Tell me about it. Even with all the social difficulties its so much better to feel happy and well. Bea
  19. Congratulations Indeed! I am so happy for you! Pretty soon you'll have to change your moniker! Bea
  20. I am finding Ultimate Flora to be very powerful. Its enterically coated and gluten free. I am using the critical care variety (50 billion). They have different grades. I was using the Now GR-8 before but didn't have the results I wanted even though it was way better than most pro-biotics I'd had. I have heard good things about Vsl #3 but have never tried...
  21. Dried fruit is always iffy for me too. Besides just the candida/fungal issues I discovered a lot of it is dusted with gluten to keep it from sticking together... I question anti depressants when just avoiding these hidden pitfalls works much better--especially since it takes a while to find an anti depressant that actually works for you plus getting used...
  22. I know what you mean. The same thing happened to me last week after going out to eat my birthday dinner at a supposedly safe restaurant. I didn't get D like in the past so that was the good news. However I got achy and had clogged up sinuses and was very depressed. It finally passed a day and a half later. I think the thing is is that one needs to really...
  23. I have had celiac since I was four months old--and started puberty at age 15 1/2. Yes, it varies. It may or may not have to do with having celiac. Mine went untreated after I was four years old so it could have something to do with the delay. I always looked way younger than my age. Of course now that is a good thing... Bea
  24. I agree about the magnesium; it helps with a great many enzymatic functions which do include the nerves. Just forgot to mention it--so I am glad you did. I have a friend who just can't sleep at all without it. Certainly it helps me to sleep better too. Just have to be careful not to take too much or I get D! But if that happens I just back down on the amount...
  25. I've had good luck with Safeway brand Ibuprofen both tablets and caplets. I checked both online and on the phone and they claim to be gluten free. They haven't bothered me despite my extreme sensitivity so they may be worth trying for you too. Herbally, taking valerian and chamomile can help relax you, which at times reduces the pain. Marshmallow root...
