  1. You mean its not just me and my crazy celiac ridden family? Similarly I just joined messy.com. Bea
  2. If when you have a chance and go to a place that sells real herbs, you can roast or maybe even pan roast chicory and dandelion and make that as your source for tea. Get the cut up herbs rather than the powder. You can boil it like coffee actually. Its very good for your kidneys yet has a good taste. It will help your body deal better with the leaky gut syndrome...
  3. Hi gpf, Just wanted to add that with feverfew you have to take it for a month or two (I have forgotten the exact details--however I am sure you can look it up) every day for it to work. Its a kind of prophylactic that makes it so you just don't get the migraines (or at least as much). Feverfew helps make it so excess blood does not easily get stuck in...
  4. Good advice! Just wanted to add I even got CC'd I think from my mother's old very gluteny cook book and electric egg beater. Just hang in there. Things will get better. And consider taking gluten free marshmallow root or slippery elm caps to sooth and heal your innards.
  5. Hi Gwen, The tea can be all or any one of those items, though the skullcap is the best to keep taking on a regular basis since it soothes and rebuilds the nervous system the most. However for all or any one of them just use the fresh or dried herb, put in a pot or thermal resistant glass jar, cover with boiling water and then a lid and steep for 5 to...
  6. Here here and all that! Yes. By the way, I actually saw rinsed quinoa in boxes at whole foods. Might be worth a try. As far as pancakes, try teff mixed with quinoa or gluten free cornmeal or amaranth flour and a little potato or something to help bind it together (1 tsp). Its even better texture if you add some already cooked brown rice or quinoa...
  7. I was thinking about this last night after finally being well enough to have some insomnia and aching legs etc. again. My digestion is slowly improiving from the antibiotics esp. since I am taking several doses of pro-biotics. Which is helping but is not enough for my nervous system. And then I realized I either needed to eat something that had b vitamins...
  8. I agree with you, if you find something that treats the situation use it. However sometimes that's easier said than done. I was too sensitive to take the usual drugs. Going off milk products (except for org. nonfat yogurt) and eggs seemed to resolve it finally for me. However it took years to figure that out. Going off gluten of course also helped greatly...
  9. apart from what everyone else has suggested, I find doing Yoga and massaging my neck really helps. For something bad I use either a tennis ball or a toy cat tennis ball (which is nicer since its smaller) and roll around on the floor with it to iron out all those crunchy achey places. The meditative practice of yoga helps calm the mind as well. I agree...
  10. Go Birdie!
  11. This is definitely nice to know! It goes to show just having occult glutenings regularly still messes a person up pretty well. I have avoided gluten for years but did not have the shooting D etc. from CC until I went off everything--i.e., after I learned about all the trace sources -- including hand soap, alcohol based herbal tinctures, lipstick etc. Certainly...
  12. I like the Afterglow product listed so prominently on the side here. Although a little spendy they are very nice. I have had trouble with Burt's Bees. Maybe its a particular herb in it? They sting my lips. Nice muted colors however.
  13. Some people swear by aloe its true. A small amount taken internally can be very soothing. If you just take the one to two tablespoons a day its supposed to also help your skin look younger etc. Many Asians use it for that purpose. However if you take any more than that it often does cause D big time. If you already have problems with D, I wouldn't suggest...
  14. Yes this happened to me too with a similar product. Nasal congestion yes, and feelings of acidity plus headache and muscle aches. The next few times I even got shooting D! I now try to avoid any possible contamination situation just because it got to be so awful and I got sick these last 2 months!! from lowered resistance afterwards.. So take a word of caution...
  15. Depends on the person. If you use any more per day it will cause D so watch out! I think using marshmallow root or slippery elm is way safer--and more effective at soothing the lining of the gut. Also using enzymes helps with the digestion itself: bromelain/papain and pancreatin for the intestines. Use HCL only if you don't have enough stomach acid. A general...
  16. Welcome to the Board! And yes you are not crazy! At least half the time the docs can't find the damaged villi with an endoscopy. They often miss the actual sites by not going in deep enough. One week is definitely not enough time to figure this out. Make sure you get rid of old food prep tools that have absorbed gluten, like wooden cutting boards...
  17. Now I am confused. I thought distilled white vinegar was made from wheat. I have found I don't tolerate it but can tolerate pure apple cider vinegar. Same with whiskey--I got CC'd just from kissing my boyfriend who had been drinking whiskey. I also understand that the grain alcohol used in tinctures makes herbal tinctures unwise to use. So what is really...
  18. Just goes to show how everyone is different. I just suggested sprouted seeds as a source of protein. I have a strong stomach even though I have had celiac forever. I do use marshmallow root and a variety of herbs to detox my liver and intestines which has helped me tolerate more than perhaps most. The sprouted seeds could be ground up if the seeds were...
  19. If the company can't guarantee it, its suspect, period. I got my mom a 1 a day women's vitamin I'll check on tomorrow. I am sorry you are going through all this. You just have to do the best you can. It seems you aren't really on a truly non gluten diet for now so maybe its OK not to sweat it so much. You are probably less reactive now than you would...
  20. I have 1/2 my right kidney scarred from pyelonephritus infections more than 30 years ago. Despite the AMA wanting me to take antibiotics (which I was rapidly becoming allergic to), I discovered taking herbs and changing my diet made all the difference and I stopped getting kidney and bladder infections. However recently, after I started avoiding all...
  21. Are you sure the Centrum multi vitamins are gluten free? I looked at them in Safeway last night and all had gluten, even the liquid kind had grain based alcohol. Don't know about the ensures but from the above it seems it may be OK. Doesn't it have soy however? Some celiacs can't tolerate soy. Might be worth investigating--and try instead a basic sweet...
  22. Itchy girl is right, you should have yourself checked out. If you have kidney disease, congestive heart failure or diabetes you need to know. However it really is possible for the gluten to be doing this to you or at least exacerabating your condition. Celiac is after all not just an allergy; it is an autoimmune disease that often precipitates other...
  23. I have read that that is often the case that one is more sensitive to sugar when one has celiac. However like with anything it doesn't always happen that way. It seems in part to be due to how long you have been struggling with this without changing your diet. I have read that it helps against it happening if you were breast fed as an infant. Exercise also...
  24. By completely going off all trace glutens it took me roughly a month to get rid of all bloating. Originally when I thought I had gone off all gluten (and had as far as I knew) I got rid of a great deal of bloating within 3 months. I also got stronger nails, hair improved and my teeth started to harden according to the dentist. Previous to when I seriously...
