  1. Hi Raavenwood, I was refering to hemochromatosis vis a vi the potato famine. Though they say often the two conditions go together though certainly not always. But yeah, as far as celiac goes our "disease" isn't really a disease in the usual sense since its just that our forebears didn't make the adjustment to eating the gluten grains 15,000 years...
  2. Wow--now I want to check out my iron levels too. I recall having high levels when I ate lots of raisins plus iron makes me constipated so I avoid it. I also don't seem to need to take vitamin C--my tests always show high levels and I am allergic to most citrus and pineapple. It really messes with my urinary tract and I get redness, swelling and flaking...
  3. PS--you need to take them away from food for the best result. I take them late at night and first thing in the morning. Others here on the board have also found them helpful too against various skin and nerve conditions. Please let me know if it helps you.
  4. Hi, not to beat a dead horse, however I have had this very problem most of my life. Finally I got the worst aspects to go away--namely the tachcardia and fainting. I haven't had my BP check recently but it feels better. I can now use a sauna and jacuzzi without fainting, a first for me since forever. So what is my magic secret? Country LIfe Co-enzyme B...
  5. Hi, Good to meet you so to speak. This is a wonderful place to find people who like you have celiac, candida, multiple sensitivities and allergies. I too have multiple allergies and have to be careful of my kidneys. Allergies in fact were what made me get pyelonephritus to begin with years ago. Inflamation led to infection. In one year I lost 1/2 of...
  6. What kind of carbs are you eating??? They might be suspect. When I have had vomiting attacks like that I found it best to avoid eating altogether until it passes. Just water and a little powdered vitamin C, assuming you can handle the corn they make the C from. Otherwise a little fresh lemon juice in the glass of water. Chamomile tea with maybe some...
  7. Yay! I am so glad too that you have a supportive husband! It makes all the difference. In contrast, I asked my boyfriend to just brush his teeth after drinking whiskey before kissing me and that was too much for him (after I finally figured out why I was getting sick the next day each time after I saw him). I told him that was it. Its just too hard...
  8. I just read the article--it is fascinating. I for one would like such a pill just to eliminate cross contamination reactions when I might want to go to a restaurant and/or go travelling. It could make life a lot easier and a bit less neurotic. Obviously however they have a ways to go before proving its safe... Neverthelss I like the idea that scientists...
  9. PS--it takes a while to get rid of all gluten but you will get the hang of it. Just persistance and patience! Theres lots of advice on avoiding hidden glutens here on the boards.
  10. I understand they can actually test the watery parts under the sores for DH plus its fairly inexpensive. So by all means have the test!! And also by all means avoid all gluten after you get the test. I had DH all over like you but no one told me anything. I changed my diet for other reasons and started taking detox herbs which made th problem go away....
  11. Dear Dibbles, Thankully you are starting to see you way through. I am so surprised doctors in the UK could have made this mistake since celiac is so much more known there than here in the States. I too have been known as a hypochondriac even by many members of my family not to mention the medical doctors I have seen. However as its turning out I am becoming...

    ARCHIVED Idiot!

Wow! I copied and pasted it to file. Thank you! Yolo
  13. Perhaps there is something we could do--send her or her manager brief emails about this condition and where to look up more detailed stuff on the web? That is if someone knows either of their addresses. It would be great if somehow we could get it more out there to the general public (and Hollywood!) about this to help others with shizophrenia, depression...
  14. I read that in tests it showed that on a nongluten diet 80% of schizophrenics have remission. Other debilitating mental diseases are affected by gluten too like manic depression, etc. etc. Yolo

    ARCHIVED Idiot!

Too bad you can't find another place that is more accomodating. You could make a stink and threaten to take your business elesewhere, though maybe you don't want to. I agree though, otherwise just bring the food in on the sly. It sounds like unless the restaurants start to understand we exist, the law and their behaviour won't change.
  16. Yes I can't have any yeast or alcohol etc. etc. either. Same thing happens to me. Too much candida for too long. Recently I have been using barberry as well as pao de arco and garlic and of course probiotics to help counteract it. Seems to be helping a lot. That plus eating a more paleolithic diet. The ground up grains --especially the ones that have been...
  17. Nerves and anxiety and depression etc. etc. are common with celiac due again to malabsorption. So make sure you are taking adequate supplements and avoiding all trace gluten. I certainly suffered for years when I had my periods as well as with my nerves and know what you mean. I still get some similar problems even now just from my body getting too congested...
  18. From what I have read in various texts it is completely normal to have B vitamin deficiency with celiac. Reason being the intestines can neither absorb or make the B's very well when the villi are flattened and/or scarred. For many this is also a hereditary trait too so you just need to make up for a basic malabsorption problem. This lack of the B's...
  19. I just threw out an old Betty Crocker cookbook my mother gave me that she used for years. Tonight I noticed it probably had caked in gluten soaked into its pages and dusting everything. I had used it the other day to get a recipe I altered for cookies and then got a reaction from that. The cookies were great but getting an extra glutening this last week wasn...
  20. Have you thought of investing in a crock pot? It really is easy to cook with. Eating as you are will make the villi take a lot longer to heal and could set ylou up for other serious illnesses or even just colds and flu. If you hate cooking, maybe you can pay someone to cook for you? Since you were diagnosed you might be able to get financial help with...
  21. Good luck with your healing. You should read the book the Dangerous Grains. Apparently gluten isn't really that good for anyone plus a lot of people get gluten intolerance exhibiting in other ways. It can take only 2 weeks to 6 months or more to notice the good effect of an anti gluten diet. Though 2 months is the usual amount of time before you notice...
  22. It sounds very much like DH. I think the same thing happened to me but my mother didn't tell me. If you can afford it, get it checked out. They actually can tell from the lesions so its a lot less invasive than an endoscopy. DH and celiac are closely intertwined and virtually the same disease. They say now no one ever gets over celiac. However...
  23. Hi NewGirl, That makes sense. Many of us with celiac have low thyroid but not enough low to take any medications for it. Thus as I suggested try taking kelp to help balance yourself. About the DH--well maybe taking kelp could bring it on--especially if you took too much, I don't know. I used to have DH and get it back if I eat gluten. I don't get...
  24. I agree with Cari, though for many the thyroid problems go away if on an anti celiac diet long enough and be sure to take a little extra iodine--I do with the kelp caps plus add seaweed to my diet. I say this since it did affect me and my ex. For both of us the low thyroid went away--and there were for both of us real added problems with taking thyroxine...
