Hi Kit, Yes overall for some reason they aren't so interested in patients who want to help themselves with diet of all things. Like its the hardest thing in the world. It really is weird I think. No money in it I guess is what they figure. They can't push pills or do emergency procedures. Soemwho they want to be the expert or something and with this it...

Hi Brian, Too bad your known family is so small. I bet someone else up the line could have had some similar problems. In my own family we certainly have. Though on the other hand my mother was an only child and my father just had one brother and an adopted sister. You aren't part Scottish, Irish, English or Scandanavian are you? Celiac and problems of...

I am glad I didn't upset you. This must be incredibly tricky and frustrating for you not to speak of frightening. For me it was always like trying to find the shape of the elephant--as a blind person--for years. At first I thought I was going to die but my grandmother as I said helped me out and I was gradually able to discover much better health after...

Hi Brian, I am sorry if some of my suggestions upset you. I can certainly undertand why your situation is so scary. Hopefully you can see some humor in being hung upside down from the world tree like poor Odin with one of his eyes poked out. Believe me I know what its like, having nearly died from a very similar condition to yours. I am glad you actually...

Hi Lizard and All, Just was looking at this thread again--and whereas for some its the B-12 that's needed --for me and my mom its B-1! without which one gets Beri Beri like symptoms and all the rest (legs, feet burning, heart palpitations, nervous problems, glaucoma etc.). I wonder how many other celiacs have this? They don't even do B-1 injections....

Hi Brian, Ravenwood and All, From what I have read elsewhere Celiac etc. can cause or go along with this whole malabsorption problem and difficulty dealing with carbs and proteins that then messes up your kidneys and liver as well as nervous system. Its like a whle condition that goes together. Thus again I want to suggest the importance of taking more...

Hi Lizard and All, I am so glad you guys are trying the co-enzyme B vitamins and discovering they are helping against the twitches! When I started taking theco-enzyme B's I felt like a revolution was taking place inside me--and it was!! B vitamins are essential for all kinds of things (especially the nervous system!) and we with celiac have trouble...

Oh wow. Doctors. I really have had bad luck with them too. It seems like many of them want you to be passive and adoring or some such which I never managed to do. Celiac seems to be against the "religion" of many doctors it appears. They think its all old wives tales... They also get into the competion or superiority thing which I beleive misses the point...

Again you are most welcome Sharon Marie! I do hope what I have suggested helps. Please let me know if it does. I know what you mean about taking all the supplements. If they make you feel better keep taking them. I find when I don't take mine I run out of energy. Oh well, its better than having to take coumadin!! etc. I certainly have a similar list...

Hi Sickchick, You are most welcome! It actually will be kind of exciting for me to find out how it works for others. It should since there is a long history to their use, however I haven't heard others talk about it in reference to celiac. It seems like even the naturopaths have forgotten about western herbs. This I think was because of past political...

ARCHIVED Snoring As A 1st Symptom Of Gluten Exposure?
YoloGx replied to Molecular Dude's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have had this happen when I stop and think about it. My nose gets clogged up and then of course I snore and sometimes wake myself up! Otherwise I don't snore as far as I know. At least that is what I have been told. My misery starts sooner when glutened however. Usually that very night my elbows get sore and I get restless leg syndrome from old scar... -
ARCHIVED Can Touching Gluten Make Dh Worse?
YoloGx replied to Alternative mama's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I forgot to say though that my mother still has HP symptoms (i.e. itchy pustuly skin) I am thinking probably form these same sources (cutting boards etc.). It will be interesting to see if the skin problems go away when I get rid of the offending pans etc. She didn't have this problem until a year ago interestingly enough even though she suffered from... -
ARCHIVED Can Touching Gluten Make Dh Worse?
YoloGx replied to Alternative mama's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Yes, I have problems with this too. Though not with my skin these days--my joints get weak when I eat with my 92 year old mother. She has no gluten anymore but still has the old cutting boards and pans. I need to get her new ones so I can eat with her sometimes! Yolo -
You can stagger them -- but you don't need to. Though I usually take the marshmallow root and slippery elm caps with food. I take the co-enzyme vitamin B complex completely away from food (last thing at night and maybe first thing in the morning if I can remember--or mid afternoon). The dandelion root some say you can take continuously. However to be...

Hi Mark, The music thing was infrequent for me. But one time it did sound like angels singing! It was after seeing an inspiring movie however. Later when I helped a friend with writing words to music it started happening again. I also would easily replay conversations and try them out different ways. The people thing was a little more shocking though...

ARCHIVED The Dry Muffin Dilemma
YoloGx replied to andanin's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hi, I have found adding some quinoa flour can help. The amount varies however on the proportion of the other flours you are using. I suggest generally putting 1 cup of quinoa flour and one cup amaranth flour with 1/2 cup tapioca flour with just 1 teaspoon of potato flour can make it less dry. Use more potato flour at your peril!--it will never really... -

ARCHIVED Dh- Is A Biopsy A Must? & Other ?'s
YoloGx replied to Alternative mama's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Hi Alternative Mama! I am into natural remedies as well. Its good to see someone else here who is too. I don't believe the general thing about nothing but diet helping. Diet is extremely powerful and it is essential to remove all gluten if you have DH and/or celiac. However I have found there are herbs that do help. I too got into a non gluten diet... -
I just read your earlier posts and smoke seems to possibly be an issue. Try investing in an air purifier. They have cheap charcoal filter ones at Target. You can replace the filters every so often. I use a wood stove for heat and find the air purifier essential. Yolo

Hi, I had a similar problem years ago. I'd get a headache in this new apartment. I tried everything: washed the carpet and the walls with baking soda -- nothing helped. Finally I discoverd some vinyl used as shelf paper on a shelf under the built-in oven. Once I removed it and threw it away, my problem dissappeared! Other than that, something along...

Hi, Yeah, until I changed my diet I felt like I had been run over by a truck every morning since I was too young too remember. I thought of the morning as being obscene. Am now starting to enjoy mornings though I still have those days. I think I need to get my mother new cutting boards and frying pans etc. since even though now she too is now on a...

ARCHIVED Waking With Upper Abdominal Pain And Cold Sweat ?
YoloGx replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This happend to me a lot for years. Eventually the pain led to palpitations which started happening during the day too if I exerted myself even slightly even though I have low blood pressure and low cholesterol. I eventually discovered that I was low on vitamin B-1 (needed for basic carbohydrate and protein absorption!) and had basically Beri Beri symptoms... -
Hi Sharon, I used to have this problem with shredding lips as has my brother. Diet is major solution for this. However there are herbs that can help--like dandelion root with possibly burdock root and maybe something for detoxing the gut like yellow dock one week and oregon grape root the next. The idea is that the body uses the skin as another avenue...

Hi Maggie and All, Its really hard to convince some people that celiac is serious. I really sympathize with you since I have had to deal with some similar problems in my family. Its almost like some of them would rather live with their ailments. They think celiac is overblown and not actually serious. They would rather fit in than be seen as possibly...

Heal Gut With Slippery Elm And Marshmallow Root
YoloGx commented on YoloGx's blog entry in Yolo's Herbs & Other Healing Strategies
Hi, Just wanted to say its wonderful to have this chance to communicate with other folks who have celiac. I hope my herbal remedies and strategies are helpful to others. Last night was pretty rough. I made the mistake of eating 2 sugar laden gluten free chocolate chip cookies I made for my mother from a package. It seems my nervous system etc. still cannot...
