  1. Cari5393, I have had a series of iron IV's because my ferritin was at less than zero! My hematologist freaked out. I too could not take oral iron, and even if I could, he said it would probably take me almost a year to get my ferritin up to 150 (where it should be for my age, weight, height, etc.) My infusions only took a couple hours. They do have to watch...
  2. For anyonme who used Igenex, How long did it take you to get your results back from them? They were shipped on Monday. Kassandra
  3. Apparently because the ER doctor didn't think it was "urgent" they wouldn't call him in. I also guess that because we didn't go during the day, the Hematologist wasn't called since it was "after hours." On a side note, there was a really young girl (13 or 14) who came in in a wheel chair and she had alcohol poisoning. She was completely out of it. It...
  4. Sarah, Your rice sounds great. We do the same thing with the chicken, except we do 2 jars of Trader Joe's salsa. It is literally my favorite meal! Kassandra P.S. Trader Joe's has a Spanish rice mix that is really good...and gluten-free.
  5. Hello everyone, Well last night was horrible! We ended up sitting in the ER for 6 hours straight!!!!! Then, we got in there and the stupid doctor didn't know anything about hematology! She told me that ferritin doesn't matter and that they won't treat me. I said, "then why would my hematologist give me 5 iron iv treatments in march...if it really didn...
  6. Carla, I will call you tomorrow. Sorry, too much going on right now to think about school. Kassandra
  7. I think the hematologist will give them to me after tonite. I am going to demand a PICC line though. I refuse to be poked every day for god only knows how long. I did it last time and it was terrible! The thing is that we are going to see a new hematologist because the other one that was following me was not on our plan. So, anything he ordered was not...
  8. Ugh. Well we talked to my Hematologists' office and they also told me to go to the ER. I guess I have no choice. We are going to go when my mom gets home from her deposition (she's a court reporter). Right now I am enjoying my iPod with no needles in me! LOL! I HATE EMERGENCY ROOMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Carla, I will call you. Wait...
  9. Carla, Would about 3.30 my time work? That's 6.30 your time...right? lol. That is unless we decide to go to the ER tonight. We are going to also call a new hematologist that is on our plan and see if they can get me in because Iron IVs are a series of treatments. So if we went to the ER, they'd only give me one out of 10 treatments. Kassandra
  10. Thank you everyone for the well wishes. I don't know why...but I don't feel like I need to go to the ER. Maybe it's denial...again! I had the blood draw, and I did okay. I am just starting to feel cruddy though, I am nauseous. It is really close, so that was good...I didn't have to sit in LA traffic! My mom is taking off work tomorrow so we can...
  11. It is basically a plan for a student who has any kind of illness or severe allergy that requires special attention. I have one (I am in my Junior Year of HS) and it basically says that if I am absent and miss a test, teachers must let me make the test up without any penalty. It would be very different for a young kid though. You use it to get the accommodations...
  12. Update: My mom spoke with the insurance advocate and she said I need to go to the ER for Iron IV's. She said it is getting dangerous for me to be walking around like this with my ferritin so low. So, I just talked to my mom and she is thinking about taking me to the ER. EEEK! I guess I am getting yellow and the advocate (she is a RN) said that I am getting...
  13. Jin, The only reason we are looking for the iron IV's to help is just as a band-aid. We know we need to get to the bottom, but in the meantime...it is dangerous to walk around with levels this low. I officially have no color in my skin. Never mind the fact I am supposed to get my period, but I haven't yet. So, once I get it (if it decides to come) my numbers...
  14. What about their rice milk? It is gluten-free, sf, df. We get it all the time. I can't have nuts, so we use Hemp Milk or Rice Milk (make sure it's NOT Rice Dream brand.) Kassandra
  15. So my plans to go to that other party tonite...down the drain!! My mom has been sick so I took my temp for fun ( I LOVE those ear thermometers...lol) and I have a 100.4 degree fever!!! What the heck!?? I am going to be on the couch for the rest of the night apparently. UGH! Kassandra
  16. Missnbagels, I totally understand what you are going through. The other day my brother made chocolate chip cookies (with wheat flour) and I almost died...they smelled so good! But he ended up burning them, so I wasn't too jealous! As far as friends go, it is really difficult. Last night I went to a party and they kept offering me cake and sandwiches...
  17. Donna, WELCOME BACK!!! That sounds like you had a lot of fun! Patti, I had the lemon ones a few months ago...the director of the Celiac Foundation gave them to me (they get samples early.) They were good, but nothing compares to the Snickerdoodles! We don't even keep them in the house anymore! I also actually made Namaste cookie mix and added...
  18. Rachel, I am jealous of your ability to not gain weight! I must be finding all the weight! LOL! It is so hard for me...before I went gluten-free I could eat anything and never gain a pound (well, unless I was taking BCP's). But now, I eat salad and I gain weight! LOL! Carla, Wow! You are lucky your intolerances are gone...it would be a big pain...
  19. We have one too! It is amazing! I even made a lot of dough and froze it in little balls, so on a weeknight it is easy to take them out and use the press and then heat them up. We also have a pan (can't remember the name) and we love it! It is great for heating up gluten-free brown rice tortillas. Kassandra
  20. Carla, What are you guys doing for food? Kristina, I guess I will go buy something from Whole Foods that I can eat.
  21. I guess I could bring something for myself. I don't want to have to cook and clean the dishes...lol! I have become more and more lazy as the days are going by. Kassandra
  22. Jin, I have never looked at the freezer the same again!!! LOL!! Nobody used anything from the freezer when my stool test was in there! Maybe I should do that and leave all my gluten-free food in there so nobody will touch it! Everybody, I am supposed to be going to a party tonight for a friend. I hate these things because I feel so crappy and...
  23. Thank you for all the suggestions. It needs to be done by me...my mom works and is a single mom, so she wouldn't be able to homeschool me. We have talked at length to my teachers and even have a 504, but all of the teachers are being very uncooperative. I am in a very rigorous program and it is really difficult for them to make exceptions because their...
  24. It is a long story, but I am in High School in my junior year. I am having a lot of very serious and complicated health issues. I am not able to make it through a school day. Someone suggested online school for me. They said it's great for people with health problems because there are almost no due dates. I know quite a few parents on this board homeschool...
  25. EWWWW! That does make Enterolab a walk in the park! The worst part was FREEZING it!!! LOL! Kassandra BTW, Krisitna...your posts always make me laugh!
