  1. Hi, and welcome to this board. Thanks for sharing all of that process, sounds like it has been difficult and scary. Your doctor is not well informed about celiac which is not uncommon. The disease can start at any time of life, not just childhood. And you have a relative that has/had celiac. This plus your symptoms points to celiac as a distinct...
  2. Great, I'd like to have both of your recipes! Thanks for sharing the successes.
  3. Hi, and welcome to this forum. I think more people will respond who have similar symptoms. The alternating constipation and diarrhea is pretty common for celiac. In all your tests have they done a celiac panel? Also it does not sound like they did a biopsy of the small intestine. These would be the standard tests for celiac. However, many people...
  4. Hi, Fiona. Electric in China is 220, so you'd have to have a way to convert if you brought something to cook on. You can buy hot plates locally, they are electromagnetic or some such. Usually come with a pan or two. Cost about $25 US on the bottom end. I hadn't thought about traveling with cooking items, Janet, thanks for the suggestion!
  5. One more idea, this week I have had guests to cook for. I planned lunches and dinners and snacks to be gluten free for everybody. Breakfasts they have gluten bread and so forth. We worked out a plan for where they use the bread, and what utensils, etc., and they clean up after themselves (the glutened items), and I do the rest. Then the rest of the day...
  6. Welcome to this board! This is a place where you will find support and many ideas. Keep reading and looking at the older posts too. Here's what I do when I have a specific question: I open the main topic that seems the closest fit (like "coping with celiac"). Then at the bottom of the page where there is a search, I put in as many terms as I can think...
  7. Hi Stephanie, Yes it is really difficult to adjust to and stick to this diet! For me, convinced that I may be celiac and reading about what damage it does to my body scared me into a commitment to a long-term attempt--at least to see what happens with my health. I am 3+ weeks into gluten-free. There are lots of treats that are really good and I don...
  8. I've seen a few references to people who have both celiac and dupuytrens, thought I'd ask here if anyone has that. D. is more common in Northern European descent, and is associated with diabetes. Not much is really known about it. Just wondered if anyone has had improvement or at least arresting of the progress of D. when on gluten-free diet.

  10. Hi, all. This article seemed balanced and informed to me, one that I might use for family members or to take to doctors. Open Original Shared Link
  11. Hi, just a quickie here as I am in a busy training week. Maybe you all know this but floaters are common with lyme disease. I am trying to read the posts but am likely be be mum for awhile... Sherry
  12. I'm a marriage and family therapists, mostly do clinical supervision of budding therapists in China.
  13. I found this helpful, anybody else seen it? Open Original Shared Link
  14. Yes, that is the problem with Chinese medicine doctors, it is difficult to know if you have found a good one. Although there is an increasing body of knowledge being collected and shared, traditionally practitioners kept their herbal recipes secret, and were passed on only to family members or disciples. Thus you still find that some are good for some issues...
  15. Hi I live in China but not Shanghai. I am also going there in early June for business. Not sure what to expect, here is a website for bread in SH: Open Original Shared Link Here's a hand-written explanation in Chinese, and somewhere there is a typed one you can print out online. Open Original Shared Link I am not totally satisfied with these...
  16. Carla hope you are better soon! Rinne, yes I have to deal with Candida. I seem to be strong enough now though that it doesn't cause such systemic issues. I still take one antifungal though. No yogurt now as I have to be off milk. Also I know how frustrating doctors can be. I saw a rheumie right around the time I found out I had lyme. He showed...
  17. [quote name='rinne' date='May 11 2007, 06:34 PM' post='301602' Sherry, I don't know whether you saw my first welcome, so welcome again. It is great to have another person on who has these challenges, not that I'd wish it on anyone. I found this thread about page 75, at that point we were just all really sick and struggling with what seemed more...
  18. Welcome to this forum! You have definitely found the right place for a lot of information and support. I am sure others who have had a biopsy will respond further. I haven't had one, but I understand it is really not a big deal. It is via an endoscopy (which I have had) and was quite painless. I was asleep for the whole thing and it didn't last too...
  19. Have you see this book? My doctor recommended it to me a couple of years ago. The author explains in detail an herbal protocol, which includes cat's claw. The Cat's Claw I used was the Allergy Research product which is also the same as Nutricology. The explanation of why Cat's Claw works really fit how I responded to using it. This book gave me a huge...
  20. Wow, Rachel. You have really been through it. Thanks for bringing me up to speed on all of that. Glad you are stable enough to work, and hope that the treatment for candida rapidly makes some progress. I suppose you are on a really low carb regimen? I've been asking myself whether this whole thing is like the question, what comes first, the chicken...
  21. Hi Rick, Welcome to this board! Sounds like you have come to the right place, as I am sure this is very worrisome for you right now. There are lots of parents here with little ones with celiac, especially on the section for parents on the forum. I can't help to much with the numbers, and yes, you need the references of "normal" for comparison. There...
  22. Hi Rachel, I need to check my bottle of transfer factor, not sure there is yeast in mine. I am currently not taking it because I am supposed to be off milk, so I am more worried about the milk content. Its on my list to discuss with my allergist. Transfer factor seemed to be helpful for me. It gives you a way to fight the lyme...(just like babies get...
  23. Hi Rachel, LOL re advertise...for sure, I don't mention this to too many people! This forum has been a safe place tho to talk about the unmentionable things. I thought it might help somebody. Glad to know I am not the only one who has found this helpful! Sherry
  24. Hi Marielynn, Sorry to hear you have had such horrible symptoms. I wonder how long you have been on the celiac diet and how strict? Some people have a little early indication that they are on the right track. I have constipation too as a main symptom of celiac. On the 10th day of gluten-free I started to notice some changes, and since then every...
  25. Hi Andrea and everyone, Andrea suggested that I jump in here even though I don't have time to read this whole thread! Whew! I was diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2000, probably got it in the early 1980's. I seem to be on the other side of it finally!!! I was on antibiotics for 6+ years. It took 8 months on antibiotics before I started to...
