ARCHIVED I Think I Might Have Celiac Disease.
mftnchn replied to NickP's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Agreed. You'll want to do any testing first if you can. Then even if the tests are negative, try the diet. The testing doesn't pick up every celiac or gluten sensitive person. Meanwhile, it does take a lot of preparation to do the diet well. You will need to also replace some kitchen items and check all personal care products for gluten. So you could... -
ARCHIVED Am I Improving?
mftnchn replied to JessieFree's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It can take 1-2 years for adults to recover. You'll find out on this site that people's improvement happens on very different time schedules. Also you'll need to learn all about cross contamination and personal care products that often contain gluten. Hope things keep improving for you. -
Just a note that Enterolab does not diagnose celiac. They don't claim that. It does give information about gluten sensitivity and absorption, plus genes, etc.

ARCHIVED Importance Of Tests
mftnchn replied to foxdog's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There is no benefit for you at this point, because you will have to go back to eating gluten, perhaps for months, for the tests to be positive. Enterolab, which does not diagnose celiac, only gluten sensitivity may work for up to a year after you stop eating gluten. But at this point it is really hard to say if anything will show up for you. I think... -
ARCHIVED Enterolabs And Elisa Results - How To Proceed?
mftnchn replied to Dianne W.'s topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You might want to start with your current diet since he is thriving, and just add one item at a time to your diet, like once a week. That way you can monitor it more closely, the bottom line is that testing is only a certain percentage accurate. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else Have A Problem With Constipation?
mftnchn replied to marlene57's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Just a note to say there is another thread here on constipation with a lot more info as well. Prunes don't work at all for me. I can eat 20 and just get some gas is all. Magnesium helps but in high doses. I take around 800mg a day and still don't go every day. Vitamin C in large doses can help, if you get too much of Mg or C you'll get diarrhea... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease And Gastritis
mftnchn replied to Karwei5's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have gastritis with nausea for about a year and a half before doing enterolab and finding out that I am probably celiac. After going gluten-free, my sense is that the nausea is connected to some degree. I definitely have had h pylori, so the connection may be that the GI tract has been compromised by celiac and can't fight off the infection well. ... -
ARCHIVED Needing Apple Cinnamon Anything Recipes...
mftnchn replied to Guhlia's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
How about something not quite so sweet? Sliced cooked yams or sweet potatos and some apples. Layer sweet potato, apple raisen, cinnamon, brown sugar. This can be done to your taste. Bake 30 minutes or so. -
Most Chinese sauces have wheat in them, and if not, MSG which is wheat based (however I've read is not a problem for gluten though isn't good for you). Fish sauce is fine if a better quality, check ingredients. Chinese cuisine has become a part of most SE Asian countries, so again you can't be sure the noodles are rice, and you can't be sure they aren...

Hi, Do a search in the International section of the forum and you'll see some posts. I live here in China, but haven't been gluten-free long enough to tell you much about eating out. I don't, basically. Gluten it is in all soy sauce, many of the prepared sauces. MSG is also in most things and is wheat based although I have read that it doesn't...

ARCHIVED Need Help Interpreting Enterolab Results
mftnchn replied to stephanie19's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I may be wrong about this, but I don't think it has yet been proven that other food allergies or sensitivities cause the same intestinal villi damage that occurs with celiac I did just read yesterday that the casein protein is very similar molecularly to the problematic gluten protein, but didn't see that in a scientific article. What I understand with... -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy
mftnchn replied to Lise's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had an endoscopy last year though no biopsy. It was really quite easy, I only remember laying on my side on the table with the IV in, and then waking up later when it was all done. I was a little spacy and weak for awhile but otherwise no other effects. -
All good points, I do hope the wedding goes as well as possible for you. My "2 cents"--that you have to clearly say "no" to the bad treatment and figure out how to do that. Perhaps at appropriate time, a statement like, "when _________________, I feel ________________. So I have decided that when that happens I will do ________________________." Then...

Hi, just an encouragement if you have started the diet, it just might take a lwhile to see the results. Hang in there! -
ARCHIVED 'cycle' Question - For The Ladies
mftnchn replied to newlyfree's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Not sure. I have skipped a month since going gluten-free, but that may be my age/hormone related. -
ARCHIVED I Guess I Should Be Tested...or?
mftnchn replied to Kottemamman's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am glad that your doctor is picking this up! Stay tuned here, there are a lot of people with similar experiences. Sounds like the whole celiac blood panel wasn't done? Also some people have all negative blood work and positive biopsies. Since you are still eating gluten and still managing ok it sounds like, if it was me, I'd go ahead and continue... -
ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something
mftnchn replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi, I'm not keeping up with the posts too much, but will try to catch up on some of it in the next day or two. I want to get all that info on detox! Thanks. Carla, this might help with your nausea, sure does it for me: DGL, a form of licorice. You swish it in your mouth first as saliva activates it. I got some powder from Beyond a Century which... -
ARCHIVED Have You Experienced This ?
mftnchn replied to deedub's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had a positive h pylori as well that my doctor elected not to treat at first for a couple of reasons: Because I had already had courses of the antibiotics usually used to treat it during the lyme treatment I went through, so he felt it would not be that useful to repeat that treatment. Also at the time I got the positive results my gastritis symptoms... -
TSH is only one of the thyroid panel tests, and unfortunately is the one that many docs often use to make the treatment decision. If your thyroid is swollen, I'd make sure you really have a sharp doc good in this area. Perhaps an endocrinologist?

I definitely deal with brain fog, however I haven't conclusively figured out what piece of the puzzle causes it. I have had it off and on since early adulthood. It often goes with fatigue, often connected to chemical sensitivity, also an allergy response to some foods when doing careful fast followed by organic food challenges. It happens with lyme "herx...

ARCHIVED Hypermobile Joint Syndrome
mftnchn replied to kbtoyssni's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Sorry, I don't know what else it might be. That very type of migrating joint pain was what tipped my LLMD that I had lyme. Is a blood test adequate to rule that out? I always thought lyme was a clinical diagnosis. I had a different test and don't have the copies here in China with me. I believe it was the test done by Bowen Labs, still in an experimental... -

ARCHIVED Increased Non-gluten Sensitivity
mftnchn replied to mftnchn's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm reluctant to start down the road of eliminating foods, and am waiting for my allergist to respond via email--I think he must be out of town. Years ago, I did this, and eliminated food after food and never got any better even though it was clear I was reacting to the foods when I challenged them. And then for years I have been quite a lot better... -
ARCHIVED Increased Non-gluten Sensitivity
mftnchn posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am rather miserable due to the increased sensitivities since going Gluten-free Casein-free 5 weeks ago. Anyone else have their allergies worsen after going gluten-free? People talk about increase sensitivity to gluten and then discovering other foods they can't eat. My chemical sensitivity is worsening. Even gluten-free soap for my face leaves a...
