  1. Hi, Christine. I PM'd you about my profession. When you say OSU do you mean Oregon State U by any chance? My career kind of unfolded, as I mentioned in my PM. I would have never dreamed that I am doing what I am now when I was in college! Then I kind of made an early mid-life change when I did my masters, but that fit in with where my family was...
  2. I had a major hair loss episode in 2005, lost hair for months and had to wear a wig for several months it was so bad. It is possible it was celiac related, but my celiac symptoms have not been striking, chronic not acute, and the big C not D. Dermatologist said it was definitely health related. What we have finally determined by best guess is that it...
  3. Hey I have a scientificness question.... Just found a lab test result that my doctor did last January. It is for serum cysteine. 0.62 (reference range is 0.61-1.16 mg/dL) So my result was normal but just barely. From what I can tell this has something to do with sulfur and also binding metals. Does anybody else know?
  4. Here's a site that has an explanation and also endoscopy pictures if you are curious about comparing normal to what it looks like when it is scalloped. Open Original Shared Link
  5. Hi Christine. I'm an INFP on the Myers-Briggs. The communication program is excellent. The program for couples is super, as well as the singles's one. It is available all over the country, check out www.couplecommunication.com The program is just starting here in China, too. Lots of couples have benefited. I've read Tannen, as well as several...
  6. There are others who can post more about the products, also check that section of the forum for lots and lots of info. I seemed to get another stage better when I switched products. Just wanted to welcome you to the board!
  7. According to my allergist (he is also a pediatrician) for foods the most accurate is an elimination diet followed by a challenge. Both skin tests and blood tests are indications but are not as accurate.
  8. Yes, I am here long-term, just in the USA a couple of months in the winter. Yes, I don't think I can eliminate it all, but maybe just the soy will help. As some of our scientificness brings hope....perhaps eventually this will calm down. Patti, I am glad to hear that Scott removed some posts. I've been concerned especially for newbies. There are...
  9. Hi, everyone. It is great to see more posts from everyone and a real sense of coming together. Lisa I am so sorry to hear about this and echo what others say. Can't figure it out for you, but maybe can stay with you on the journey. at least a little bit. Update on me: have almost tested all the things I planned: rice, corn, soy, peanut, egg, and tomorrow...
  10. Christine, I think this was SO WELL stated. I find this is an ongoing learning curve for me too. It is so easy to focus on not feeling well (because so often I am not!) and not really take care of the psychological part by stating things directly. And then when I am struggling, when I say things directly it is not always in the best frame to be received...
  11. I have just tested soy (and peanut) by eliminating them for a week, and then doing a challenge. Both had similar reactions, like going through cold symptoms, congestion, sore throat, asthma and that type of thing. Soy lasted over a day. So I will eliminate these for a month and see what happens.
  12. Mike, Welcome to the board. Let us know what questions you have. It is a big adjustment to go gluten-free and we want to support you.
  13. I don't really know the answer either. One reason might be that your exposure to different foods has changed. i.e. you are eating more of something now as a repacement. My allergist has told me that a food intolerance can develop to anything that you eat more often than every 4 days. I am hoping that after 1-2 years of strict gluten free that my allergies...
  14. Just one more tidbit of information. I tend to have my allergy symptoms on the left side, congestion is worse, etc. A naturopathic doctor once told me that this is quite typical.
  15. Micah, what happened to me with the big "C" after going gluten-free was first the symptoms you are having, then at about 10 days, had daily bms for the next 10 days, Since then it hasn't been consistent but that was my first sense that gluten-free might be going to help.
  16. If you search the forum there has been discussions about this here before. Basically Enterolab does not have the respect of the medical community because the doctor who developed the testing hasn't published his findings. The test is the same as used on blood samples but used on stool instead. Enterolab never claims to diagnose celiac. The doctor has...
  17. That's really hard, Micah. I think it would be worth seeing if there is an LLMD in your area, and then discuss the financial issues with him. Hopefully he could have some options that would not be so costly. There are a number of auxiliary issues to treating the lyme, not just antibiotics. So from my experience, I'd say that finding a good doctor is...

    ARCHIVED Doctor's Opinion

I'm not a doctor, this is just an idea. Might be time to check the endoscopy results. According to my understanding, if it does show celiac, your body is sustaining damage when you eat gluten whether or not you show symptoms. Otherwise, it is possible that you have had an allergy to gluten, and having stayed away from it you can now tolerate to some...
  19. Yes, you can go through withdrawal. I felt that my whole body was adjusting for several weeks. The weight loss is not uncommon either, I have seen other posts here about that. Welcome to the board, hang in there and keep reading here and you will find lots of help and support for this adjustment.
  20. I also had some mild spasms in my abdomen the first couple weeks of gluten-free. It wasn't in just one spot, but it was kind of the "butterfly" feeling too. It felt like my intestines were starting to work or something. I have the big "C" rather than "D" so just thought it was a good sign of improvement.
  21. As I understand it, the reason lyme is a clinical diagnosis is that the blood tests are still not totally reliable. So you need an LLMD and he looks at your history, symptoms, testing, and response to treatment to confirm the diagnosis.
  22. Oh, boy. The soy is definitely a problem!! Not too much as far as abdominal symptoms though. Sinus, flushing, headache sore throat, asthma, tingliness in face and mouth, irregular pulse, and just a bit of mild abdominal cramping. 9 hours after eating I am still quite symptomatic. There's goes my wheat-free soy sauce!
  23. Hi, Jin. Yep, I pop in and out sometimes, not enough to keep up with all the posts. Glad to hear you are better, Christine. Hope we'll hear the same from Mia soon too. Since the first of the month, my brain fog has pretty much stayed away, yeah!! Mostly all I am dealing with is the shoulder/neck pain and stiffness. So I am guessing that a lot of...

ARCHIVED I Thought I Knew It All

I'm not really sure, these are all good suggestions. I just wonder if it could possibly be soy intolerance? Soy seems to be the other food that I have seen referred to as causing stunted villi in the small intestine.
  25. Bob, that's a great pix. Bob and Carla--70% is pretty good, and that's a great shift from 15% Carla. It took me a lot longer those first months of treatment. I think I am 50-70% this past two weeks. Was 30-50% for most of June. ABX are really helping. Micah, I am glad the diet helps. Have you been strict gluten free? I am trying to tease out for...
