  1. Legumes are a good source of starch. Buckwheat is not a grain, and you may be able to find 100% buckwheat noodles. Try the various flour mix recipes, some don't have rice flour.
  2. Yes, the gene is possible without active disease.
  3. Hi, I am O negative, and probably celiac. I wonder if there is any correlation with gene type for celiac? I am double DQ2.
  4. Hi, Joilie, Welcome!!! My response wasn't as dramatic, but definite changes started at Day 10. I had struggled with the big C too. It is like my body is making major adjustments. I also had a period where I was bloated and very uncomfortable for days, the first month. The twinges started about 1 week, but haven't really been having severe spasms....
  5. I had a sudden and severe hair loss during the last six months of 2005, never really figured out why unless it was hormone related. I had started taking a low dose of prometrium in February of that year to try to help with increasing insomnia that wasn't responding to anything else. It grew back in quite wavy. Now I wonder whether it was celiac ralated...
  6. Yeah, Carla, same for me. I have done this quite a bit--take the Ambien when I wake up about 1-2 am. Have you ever tried skipping two days of your meds/ supplements (maybe one at a time?) to see if any of them are impacting you? I have discovered a several of those kinds of problems with stuff that isn't known for causing insomnia.
  7. 7_Cody, I agree with what many have already said about being patient, it takes awhile. That said, my brain fog and fatigue also worsened. Within a month it was clear that my lyme disease had recurred. No one knows if this was related to going Gluten-free Casein-free, or was inevitable after going off all treatments for it early this year. My guess...
  8. Carla sounds like you have tried everything re the insomnia, glad the ambien is working. It is not supposed to cause dependence, buy my doc said he is suspicious because people really get to "like" it. Lucky for me, the insomnia seems to come and go, so I don't need to use Ambien all the time, probably the longest is a 2-3 week period. Usually 5 mg is...
  9. I've been at that point too, especially when first treated (and that was shortly after contracting lyme--or when I think I did) My allergist also suggested mega doses of Vit C for allergy symptoms, he said you can do 2000 mg every couple of hours. Of course, you might end up with diarrhea, then just cut back. Hope the bigger dose works for your...
  10. Donna, Prescription antihistamines do it to me as well, although some of them worked for a time before starting to cause that. I am down to one I can use, Allegra, if I don't use too much. Because of this, I have really gone into the allergy shot thing as I have to keep a lid on it. Also I use saline rinses for my nose when things get back. It really...
  11. Just a note, with Enterolab, you have to have been eating gluten in the past year. If it is longer than one year, I don't think it can pick up gluten sensitivity. From diet you already know she is gluten sensitive, so I don't know what that would gain you. You can check genes.
  12. I can't remember if I posted about insomnia or if I just thought of it in my head! I'm not lyme-foggy, just too busy to remember what I did a couple days ago. You could try L-tryptophan at bedtime with a small amount of pure carb. This helped me. Check cortisol levels (adrenal issues). Thyroid can impact this too. Also I am very sensitive...
  13. I broke up all my posts...since my daytime is different than all of yours, I can't join in much with the flow of things. I am now 4 months Gluten-free Casein-free, and a month or so soy free. There is some clear improvement in how well my intestines are working. Of course I am doing the Vit C and magnesium which I wasn't doing before, and yet I have...
  14. I do skin brushing once in a while and should do it more often. It makes sense, in terms of removing toxins (because the skin excretes them) and increasing lymph flow. Especially for me because I don't sweat much ever. Even with exercise it is very light.
  15. Julie, for me herxing hasn
  16. Today I really felt good, and it is flagyl day 2 this week!!! I decide to switch my DMPS to start on the second day of Flagyl and then go another day. (DMPS is just every other week). Also I am really being vigilant on everything I can in terms of binding toxins and improving elimination. Exercise
  17. Bev, that is excellent news that you are getting really good direction now. Tom, I am recently off soy as well. I think it is making a difference though not sure how dramatic a change. Carla sorry about the bad herx. I think eating a lot of cilantro is helping me some with this. Re the fudge recipe, could I substitute something for the coconut...
  18. Hi Julie. I am currently taking citricidal (Nutricidal), and have taken it in the past. The first time was years ago for amoeba and a couple of other parasites that I forget what they were. Seems like it was a protozoan. My doc had me take it last year for awhile to try to help with the lyme and help me get off antibiotics. However, I was really struggling...
  19. You've been given lots of good advice. Just remember that 11 days is barely a start, when it takes our intestine 1-2 years to heal. I think I would stop the milk first at least for awhile, and see what happens. Then you could try eliminating groups of food just to see what happens. For example, eliminate all grains for 5-10 days, and then test the...
  20. Thanks for these ideas. Since I can't really easily get stuff here, when I am in the USA next winter I'll look for the pie crust maker. I'll try chilling it on a cookie sheet, that sounds like a good idea. Thanks, everyone.
  21. I agree with what has been said, that improvements can be very slow. I have just reached 4 months, and it is still very up and down. When I looked up about my gene type, I found that my double DQ2 is associated with more severe disease and slower recovery. So I told myself I needed to be strict for a year at least before giving it up. It has been hard...
  22. I don't have a celiac child at home, just a few thoughts you might consider: We all tend to figure out ways to indirectly deal with emotional stressors that have a hard time with or don't know how to deal with directly. So I think as a parent behavior like this is a signal that our kids are struggling. Doing things that help them express the struggle...
  23. Some good ideas here. I suddenly started having insomnia several years ago. Doctor checked cortisol levels and I took that for awhile but it made it worse. Trazadone didn't work either. Neither did melatonin. I think I tried a couple other things too but can't remember. L-tryptophan has helped (amino acid like is in turkey), take at bedtime with...
  24. Can anyone give some suggestions about the best way to tweak this recipe so it is easier to handle to roll out the pie crust? It is so very sticky that it has been challenging to get the crust thin enough and make a top crust. Since I am gluten-free, milk and soy free, I have only one type of soft margarine that I can use (Nuttelex) that I can buy here...
  25. Hey all. I am reading along, just no energy to post. Doing okay, just busy. I like the 6 month updates. Since I went downhill from 6 months ago and just starting back up I'll update later when I am a bit more stable. Taking a LOT of stuff right now.
