  1. No, you are not automatically sensitive. The legumes are in the same food family due to some similarity in the proteins. So it is possible to have more trouble with a whole food family but it is individual. To help prevent that, one approach is to rotate them. Eat the same legume only every four days or more. Eat different legumes only every 2 days...
  2. I'm another one with a similar story. I think it is amazing how many of us have similar stories here. My hair begin falling out in clumps roughly 2 years before I went gluten-free. It got so bad that I wore wigs for 6 months. Dermatologist said it was a metabolic issue, she thought hormones as I had started taking progesterone a few months earlier...
  3. Treats: Okay, I know we are trying to be low carb, but.... Besides the chocolate cookies and the molasses ones that are successes, today I finally think I have found a cinnamon roll recipe that is good, about the 4th one I have tried. Still tweaking but I think this is going to be a winner. GFCFSF.
  4. Yep, Jin's Rachelville digest---that's why you are amazing! I get to the end of all the posts and and can't remember the ideas I had along the way. Detox bath: I used equal sea salt, epsom salts and soda, and just 1/2 c of the total mixture. I timed 20 minutes and then rinsed off. I think I will try it again, and if I get all stuffy again, I'll just...
  5. Carla, what a bummer. Donna, sorry about the down time. Hope there is an upturn soon. Andrea, I know what you mean. I have a hard time keeping up on this thread, so I like the days it is quiet! Julie, Donna and I both did detox baths....I think I missed what was happening with Donna when it caused problems. Probably I was out of town. I did...
  6. On the saline rinse for the nose: This is a standby because I can't use antihistamines much. For me, I get very congested, so if I put my head back and slowly put in the 10cc, it seems to flow a bit into the sinus and into the other side a little bit. When I am quite congested it doesn't go down the throat much. It it does I expel it like if you gargle...
  7. Hooray! I'm so excited! Today I found a grain mill I can use here. The machine takes about a cup and a half of grain or whatever (dry), and makes a nice fine flour in under 2 minutes. They are usually used for the Chinese medicine shops to grind their medicine into powders. Cost me $45 for the medium size one. Now I can do sorgham, sweet (sticky...
  8. Kassandra, sorry for the trouble. Here's a remedy you might try that helps me: salt in boiled water, cooled to lukewarm or room temp. Get a 10 CC syringe at the pharmacy (they are big ones) without the needle. Tip your head back and squirt the saline into your nose. Takes a little practice and getting used to. Do this twice a day. It is great for congestion...
  9. Here's a link that you all might find useful. It sounds corny, but is an interesting blend of acupuncture points and some of the brain mechanisms found useful for forms of therapy like EMDR (helps with trauma). Given information like what Dr. K says about how psychological issues can block healing, I think this is worth a try. The manual is free, and...
  10. Restricting foods more and more is really hard. I have resisted doing too much as long as I am getting along. Especially with my travel schedule--my current restrictions are already hard. However, I seem to be on a plateau again in terms of my gut healing. Trying to figure out whether to be patient and wait and see or to try further restrictions. I...
  11. Well I am even more curious about the effect of the detox baths on me. I had the strong allergy symptoms (headache/sinus issues, sore throat and asthma/fatigue) after I did the baths on Wed and Thur, was the worst on Friday and then much better on Sat and fine since (well just mild allergy symptoms like I had before). Three friends also had bad allergy...
  12. Hello everyone. Melmark, I am curious about that you feel better when you don't eat. Have you ever fasted for 5 days to a week? If so what happens then? I agree with many other things said for you to consider. Probably your diet will need to be very simple. What about crock pot soups and stews that can be ready when you arrive home? Also I am...
  13. One thing I want to suggest is that when each of us goes gluten-free we go through our own adjustment period. That can take quite awhile, and we have our bodies telling us that we HAVE to do this. Our partner doesn't have to. They have their own adjustment to make, which is probably even harder: giving up these foods because they love us and want to be...
  14. I also have a wonderful husband of close to 30 years. He has been very understanding, even about being careful with CC. The only frustration he had was when he was caring for guests while I was away, and they had gluten foods. I came home and was worried about what gluten had or had not touched and what I could and could not touch. (Though he had been...
  15. Hello, Melmark, Welcome! Can you also tell us what antibiotics you were on and for how long? Sounds like you have almost totally digestive, intestinal symptoms correct? What happens when you fast? Does it get better? I also got worse after going gluten-free. I'd wonder as well about milk sensitivity, and then other intolerances. For me it is...
  16. I am floored that a nurse would give you that advice. You are having strong reactions to a drug and why would enteric coating fix that? Scary. I second the suggestion to make sure it is gluten-free. It may not be the drug at all, but what is in the fillers that is the problem. What about your other meds? Have you isolated the symptoms to being for...
  17. Sounds like normally you eat these without problems correct? CC could be the culprit, so posting the brands here might help. One other thing is that sometimes combinations of foods are more problematic than the foods by themselves.
  18. Maybe we all are naturally pacing ourselves...cause it isn't always easy to keep up with lots of posts every day. Well, the jury is out still on the soda, epsom salts, salt bath. I just put in 1/2 cup of an equal mixture of each. First time really sweat but I couldn't stand it, so this time I made sure the windows were open and cool air blowing in, so...
  19. Yes, here's hoping that everyone perks up again! Suzi, I am not sure about the detox baths, can you help us with this Rachel? I think it would work like a sauna, as the epsom salts makes you sweat. I think that it helps get the stuff out of the body, not cause it to start circulating. The skin is an elimination organ like the intestine and kidney...
  20. I would think if it is produced locally you would be okay. Here in China labeling isn't complete, but all soy sauce has wheat in it. If yours is imported and then re-labeled, I would wonder.
  21. Have you ever tried a strong probiotic?
  22. Never mind, I found some stuff online. You all might like this link on detox, baths, skin brushing, etc. Open Original Shared Link
  23. Rachel, that's awful about the chemical exposure. I've had periods of time where those things are really troublesome. Less so now. Oh boy, there is ONE major thing that really does me in--mosquito coils which are common in Asia. It can be far away in the same building (several stories away) and come up through the stairwell and really do me in. Sure...
  24. I am using an Australian brand called Nuttlex.
  25. Dru, I think it is very possible that you are still reacting to barley. I have seen folk on this forum talk about 2 week reactions and even 1 month reactions to a much smaller amount of gluten than you ate in your testing. I sure hope you feel better soon.
