ARCHIVED Are There Any Other Causes For Floating Stools Besides Gluten?
mftnchn replied to Sarah8793's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
As I understand it, the floating is typically related to undigested fat. -
ARCHIVED I Feel Like I'm Going Crazy
mftnchn replied to Ryniev's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Someone here has posted a quote from a expert that suggest 6-8 months on gluten before testing. -

You are welcome, and hope you let us know how things go. -
I have to agree with the need to look further before ruling out lyme. I didn't have Igenex testing, but did have a positive with another type of testing. However, my LLMD went by my symptoms. He was willing to do antibiotics for long enough that I FINALLY began to improve (8 months), and continue them (plus other things) as I have needed them since....

ARCHIVED Gluten Free For 3 Days And Now My Stools Float?
mftnchn replied to JustJust's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes, undigested food and fatty stools (which float) are very common, and should improve over time as your intestine heals. Remember it takes 1-2 years for adults to heal. My guess is that that constipation was clouding the issue and that the malabsorption was present before your stools changed as well. -

Hi, and welcome to the forum. Your symptoms of thyroid issues, fatigue, depression and insomnia, plus constipation all paint a picture that could be celiac. I am not very sure about the alternate approach to diagnosis though. Since you have been gluten free or gluten lite for awhile, the blood tests and biopsy could be negative, and you could still... -
ARCHIVED Tried My First Rice Bread
mftnchn replied to stitchy woman's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't have a choice to buy bread where I live. Making my own was discouraging at first. Weird taste, weird texture, didn't raise well, etc. But eventually we found recipes that work well. We do one now in the bread machine that none-gluten-free people really like and can't tell isn't regular bread, especially when toasted. They are really surprised... -

Update 2: I have just started l-glutamine and resveratrol, but don't have my notes from my doc with me on my trip to know the doses. I get home tomorrow and will check, then re-organize my daily regimen which gets pretty complex as I am sure you all know!!! After my last phone appointment, I tried taking flagyl for 10 days, as my doc said I might break... -
ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something

Hi Jin, you do really help me catch up! I travel regularly between 3 cities. I mostly do clinical supervision for local Chinese who are learning to be marriage and family therapists. Meals are challenging. In two places I have access to a kitchen which I keep gluten free. In one place I borrow a hot plate from one of my students who also keeps a small... -

Hi all, Been on a trip away for quite awhile, and there's just no way I'll be able to catch up with all the posts. Kassandra, crock pot or one pot meals might work for you. Since I travel a lot, I make larger meals when I do cook, and then put them into small containers for a one meal portion to freeze. Then I have a variety to take with me... -
ARCHIVED In Light Of Alexis Stewart's Comments
mftnchn replied to Canadian Karen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I didn't vote because... I didn't have a clear beginning of symptoms that I only relate to celiac, other than perhaps the big C and that is most of my life. I think probably I have a number of family members who are gluten intolerant but haven't been diagnosed or haven't decided to address this. (Several have diarrhea, mother has constipation, and... -

ARCHIVED This Sucks With My Crazy-busy, Travelin' Life!
mftnchn replied to Rivergirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I also carry my food with me and travel a lot though usually to the same places. I make sure where I am staying I have access to a fridge, and some way to warm my food. A big hassle, but I enjoy the trip more when I am not sick. -
You might do a search of the forum as are are several threads on this topic with lots of folks ideas. Hope you get better!

Just a note that lyme can attack other joints as well. I particularly notice it gives me pain in any of the extremities, either joints or searing nerve pains, plus upper back, neck and shoulders. I agree if you have had a bull's eye rash, don't wait around, and don't rely on a doctor who is not an LLMD. It is just not worth the risk of getting this nasty...

Just noticed this myself. If it continues I think I will try to get a blood sugar screen for diabetes since that is associated with celiac.

ARCHIVED Clinique Makeup
mftnchn replied to glutenfreeinMadisonHeights's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Quick corrector 13 Moderately Fair contains lecithin and caprylic/capric triglyceride (soy) and polysorbate 85 (corn). That is the response I received recently from Clinique. Not sure it is the same product you are asking about. -

One more idea from my doc: Making your own probiotics, not in yogurt. He said open one capsule of probiotic into a couple of quarts of vegetables or juice that you tolerate. Put it in an open air environment for 3-5 days. He said that the good bacteria will really grow well. One capsule then goes a long way. I'm not going to try this right away but... -

Hi just a pop in for me too...I am totally behind and probably won't catch up as I have too much work to do now that I am functioning somewhat again. Just an update after my phone consultation with my doc: Food sensitivities: he said try to increase my digestive enzymes when I eat a food that is reactive as this will help. Sulfur: He said yes on... -
ARCHIVED How Long Was It Until You Noticed A Difference On A Gluten-free Diet?
mftnchn replied to Luke987's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My recovery has been very up and down and overall I felt worse than before going gluten-free. I saw some improvement in the big "C" at day 10, with daily elimination for a week or so. Then back to the same old same old. My better days increased after I eliminated personal products with gluten. After a month my lyme disease recurred which confused the... -
I can't tell yet, I am too unstable yet. On this forum I have seen repeatedly people who say that over time they have been more and more sensitive. I saw one person say that eventually they became less sensitive again.

ARCHIVED Other Food Allergy Signs?

From my understanding any food allergy can cause any symptoms. Sinus or cold-like symptoms are common. There's no way to tell from symptoms what the allergy is. -

ARCHIVED Will I Ever Stop Hurting?
mftnchn replied to rjne2nd's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi, you are still very early in the healing process, so you'll need to be patient! Early on there is such a challenge with getting gluten when we don't know it. Many people are helped as well by eliminating gluten in personal products. Focus energy on making sure you are totally gluten free, and enjoy the moments when you are better, they will get longer...
