ARCHIVED Any Celiacs Who Have Chronic Tailbone Pain?
mftnchn replied to fraggle's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
You might check out the lyme disease thread on this forum. I have pain too but it really seems related to lyme disease, even though the fatigue and brain fog seems to be both celiac and lyme related. -
This is a very difficult issue. What I do is pack the ice and food that needs to be cold in the checked bag. My food goes in frozen but usually isn't to liquidy in case the checked bag gets messed up. I pack carefully. I haven't so far tried to use a doctor's note to carry on. I've been afraid some would say ok and others would not. You can check...

Most of us are pretty okay with the TMI stuff on this board...you can always post a TMI warning on your thread, LOL! Yes, lots of transitional weird stuff can be seen.

ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
mftnchn replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Check your probiotic for inulin, FOS and chicory, too. My guess is if it has that, but you just use one capsule for starter, then keep using the new culture for starter, that you are hardly going to have any of that in your yogurt. But the right kind of organisms is probably important. I may get even bettter results now that I have switched. -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
mftnchn replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
For the cravings (I noticed that at first too), I'd do the grape juice, jello, cheesecake, dry curd cc with honey on it. A couple of times, a teaspoon of honey. I seemed to need the honey at first just to keep blood sugar a bit more stable and stuff. Was able to back way off gradually. I read others needing honey at first too. I've read the bifidum... -

ARCHIVED Hair Growth After Going Gluten Free?
mftnchn replied to MarsupialMama's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I've also had improvement in my hair, nails and skin. I had a very significant hair loss in 2005, and it did grow back and also grew back curly. I didn't go gluten-free until 2007, but seems like it has continued to improve since then. Jacqui, glad you are posting. You have a very significant story--I'd encourage you to start a new thread with your... -

Carla, I bet there is one more key here in terms of how you give the directions. Tone, style, etc. Any thoughts on that? My 4 yo GD loves to help, and is already able to do many tasks to help her mom. Its that sense of "I get to help" not "I have to help" which seems key for little ones. Then with good habits it is easier later on. I didn't do... -
ARCHIVED Need Enterolab Help - Test Was Negative? Newbie.
mftnchn replied to luciddream928's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, I think that it could be that your immune system is repressed and not showing up the reaction, but with your dietary response so clear it makes sense to stay gluten-free. Do your symptoms totally clear with gluten-free? The reason I ask is that there seem to be people who have gluten sensitivity secondary to another issue, because something else... -
Yes, I have had the fatigue and sleepiness, and it is hard for me to trace the cause. It is one of my lyme symptoms too, plus the form of asthma I get makes me sleepy. I don't wheeze, just can't get a really deep breath and the sleepiness is from reduced oxygen. However, I have had a big improvement the last several weeks on the SCD, especially after...

ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
mftnchn replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Ali, that's great you are making gradual progress with decreased sensitivities. That's what we like to hear! April, ask away. That's how we learn from each other. Glad to help. BTW on the constipation protocol, so far I haven't had to do too many steps. I seem to be getting back on track here now which is partly probably my eating in better shape... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
mftnchn replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I was dairy free for 10 months along with gluten-free, then reintroduced when I tested okay for goat milk and for small amounts of cow milk. I save the cow milk for a little cheese. I introduced the dry curd cottage cheese right away, and yogurt not long after. However, I think some of the info suggests waiting if you have been dairy free prior--that... -
ARCHIVED Help! Don't Know What To Do Next....
mftnchn replied to vthuskies's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Too bad they didn't run all the tests. You really need them all. If your total IgA is low it means none of the tests are reliable. So crummy about the long wait. You can read and prepare for going gluten-free as soon as you get your biopsy. Hang in there. -

Its great you're feeling better and hopefully soon the rest of the symptoms will be gone too. Are there certain treatments for this type of mold? -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
mftnchn replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
April, glad you have started this and hope it really helps you. I'm still taking chlorella, I know that I need it for binding mercury, at least for now. I use some charcoal too occasionally. Many of my meds/suuplements are not SCD compliant for now. My LLMD knows that and agrees I need to take this stuff even though he prefers the meds to be SCD compliant... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)

I love the picture of you standing in your garden eating veggies... Yay!!! My retrial today of the probiotic and the homemade yogurt went just fine. If any reaction, just a slight congestion which is really good results for me. (I react to almost anything). So I am pretty sure now that my symptoms (which are not yet gone) are due to my mold allergy... -

Yay! My trial today of probiotic and then plain goat milk yogurt went just fine. I haven't checked the honey yet, may wait as I am trying to find pure honey. Could be pretty impossible, not sure. So I am pretty sure it was the mold shot reacting. I still have symptoms; waiting to hear from my allergist. Sherry -
ARCHIVED Need Fast Help - Deteriorating Fast - Finally Clicked It Could Be Gluten
mftnchn replied to castor's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Castor, so sorry for all this trouble. First of all, I would call the doctor's office and tell them to please send you a copy of the full lab and results asap. Remind them that you have a legal right to that information. Given your problem with doctors, location, etc., you may have trouble getting a referral for an endoscopy and biopsy, but I would... -

I've never used a yogurt maker. All you need is some way to keep the warm temperature stable. I've used a number of ways to do that. My current two ways: 1: use a rice cooker, put water in the pot about half full and put the rice cooker on keep warm. Keep the lid open. Put a plate on the top of the rice cooker pan with a couple of hot pads on it... -
ARCHIVED Unbelievable Weight Gain After Diagnosis
mftnchn replied to Folletto145's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I think gluten-free foods do tend to be too high in carb, as has been said. I gained a lot of weight prior to diagnosis. Lost most of it once being extremely low carb but found that hard to maintain over time so gained it all back. I lost weight gradually after going gluten-free, lost more after adding SF. I am now understanding more that my body... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free And Getting Worse?
mftnchn replied to utahlaura's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Laura, Sometimes this does happen, I noticed something similar. The body makes huge shifts to adjust once we get off gluten. People report increased sensitivities and allergies for months after going gluten-free, and sometimes it gets better and sometimes it doesn't. Even your veggies may be too much roughage for you right now. What symptoms are... -
ARCHIVED 2 Year Old Who Stopped Eating All Foods
mftnchn replied to Jules's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Excellent responses here. I'll just add two ideas: Sensory Processing Disorder can involve food issues. Its a neurological issue. Still might respond to diet in my opinion though. Some kids that haven't responded to gluten-free have responded well to the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, which is also gluten-free. Since you are tube feeding seems it would... -
Do you know if you are carbohydrate sensitive? Maybe you haven't been able to heal enough to start making the enzymes to digest carbs. That's been true for me, even after 15 mo gluten-free and 11 months SF. Now I am doing SCD and am responding better. SCD is supposed to be good for both Crohns and celiac.
