  1. I wonder about the liquid phosphate stuff from over the counter at the pharmacy, which you take to prepare for a colonoscopy. At least to try to get this to clear up. What doses of mag and C are you taking? I recently had a similar episode, but more mag and buffered C helped. Also someone just posted recently about also needing a little calcium along...
  2. I think there are a few foods allowed that have only a small percentage of the wrong kind of carbs, at least that is what I remember. I would say that overall my bowel transit time has increased. This is still an issue for me. I still see undigested food but much much less than when i started SCD. After weeks of constipation again, now I have gone the...
  3. There may be different opinions on these questions. My allergist has told me that the most accurate allergy testing is elimination diet. Use the other testing as a guide only. Blood testing, skin testing, energetic testing are some of the options available. And yes the food intolerances can shift all the time. If you are one that develops intolerances...
  4. Given that it helped at first you would think it did have something to do with mold or fungus. Just thinking of what happened to CarlaB when she got rid of her mattress that she discoved had black mold. She felt really great for about three days then much worse for weeks. Detoxing the mold was very awful. Another thought is that it is more than just...
  5. Cinnamon that is interesting. I test as having very low levels of bile. Probiotics can help as well. Are you also constipated? Magnesium may help things move along.
  6. This is good advice. Magnesium is needed for the intestinal muscles to contract. Part of the problem for me has been that gluten-free was not enough to heal. I've been strictly gluten-free since 04/07. I am finally starting to see some signs of healing after 5 months on the specific carbohydrate diet. Apparently due to villi damage I was not digesting...
  7. Based on what I have learned since being diagnosed, if I were you, I would request the biopsy. There are still a lot of false negatives in the blood tests for celiac. Be sure you have had a total IGA as well, because if your total IGA is low, the blood tests are not useful for you and it also suggests celiac. If biopsy is negative and total IGA is normal...
  8. Ali, thanks. I didn't put in the cheese as I can't get fresh parmesan. I'll try butter and cheese next time. Dawn, do you think this recipe would work without the sesame seeds? (I'm sensitive) Also to everyone: I finally found a "fix" for something crispy. It's Elaine's suggestion to slice the Lois Lang bread very thin and microwave until crisp...
  9. Geoff, I think it is important to rule out lyme disease, because the symptoms can be similar to celiac, and CFS and fibromyalgia can be misdiagnosed lyme disease. Check out the lyme disease thread on this forum, but basically the testing is best done by a certain lab because most labs have a false negative rate of up to 60% as I recall. Gluten sensitivity...
  10. Thanks for your ideas. I kind of think this is metal showing through. I'm going to just watch it and see if it changes over time. I'm thinking one possibility was that my gums were swollen a bit before and covering this up, and now they are improving, but need to build back up to normal levels. I also think if these are metal I am going to make sure...
  11. Also Ali, when you are up to it, I need some help with your cracker recipe (I posted on the recipe thread). Sherry
  12. Ali, that is scary! I've been going through something like this too, but not nearly so severe. Hope this is the end of it for you. I feel like my digestive system has gone from being "dead" to being "sensitive." Hopefully this is just the healing process. After weeks and weeks of constipation, now I'm back to going right away in the mornings, with...
  13. My guess is this would be very individual. Elaine in BTVC and on her email posts would probably say that it would delay healing, and that it would be better to stick to the diet for 1 year beyond the resolution of symptoms. For me, I don't dare add in the carbs since I know that my body isn't digesting them. I'm still seeing a lot of cleansing effect and...
  14. Something very weird today, some of the gums at the base of my teeth have a black line. The teeth seem to be the ones where I have crowns. I might have had this before but just didn't notice. But I don't think I had it before I started swishing. Has anyone read anything about this? I am thinking my teeth are somewhat whiter but they have a really...
  15. Well, not sure if it is the oil pulling or the other things I have been trying, but finally after weeks and weeks, my BM's are going again the last three days. And today I keep going and going, like my system is finally getting rid of what it needs to. It could be the oil pulling though because initially I got worse, very bloated and uncomfortable.
  16. Ali, I need help with the almond cracker recipe. How do you make it stick together? My crackers are tasty but I have to use a spoon as it just crumbles. Would using butter rather than oil and more butter help?
  17. I'm not sure I can get the cold pressed forms of the oils here, but the regular sunflower still seems to be working to some degree. I'll switch if I can get it. Anyone seen info that says the sesame is better than sunflower?
  18. Hi, K! Glad for an update, and really glad you are improving on the SCD in spite of all the travel challenges!!! If you can handle the ingredients, for dessert for holiday try an apple crisp. Do apples and your favorite spices plus honey for the bottom, and use the honey almond crisps (cookie recipe) from BTVC, just spread it over the top of your apples...
  19. I think many of us go through the exact same struggle because we don't fit in the current diagnosis "box." At least your GI is sharp enough to make the clinical diagnosis. Much much better than many docs out there!! In my case, I was overseas and didn't have the availablility of either bloodwork or reliable endoscopy. My double DQ2, very strong Enterolab...
  20. Glad for the comments about rinsing. I like the baking soda and salt idea. Been brushing with baking soda or salt. I like brushing well after, the whole mouth. I think my teeth are whiter, but I have my eye on the color of a crown I have from years back that was at that time a good match. If my teeth get that white, I'll be a believer for sure. But...
  21. Can you say more about how you are making them? We've only done it a couple of times, do it on parchment paper for one thing. Also it has to be baked enough, and then cooled before you try to take it off. The part not baked enough will crumble, in my experience.
  22. My doctor prescribed SCD after two stool tests showed I was excreting high levels of sugar (i.e. not digesting them) and carb digest enzymes didn't make much difference. I had a lot of symptoms the first week on the SCD, huge shifts in BMs, then started to feel a lot better the second week. Much improvement with fatigue, brain fog, and the ups and downs...
  23. Thanks, Rinne. Lucy's Kitchen doesn't say anything about gluten free (wheat free facility for processing). Guess I'd have to call. They are more expensive than www.digestivewellness.com.
  24. I've been grinding my own almonds for a little baking, but am facing a period of time where time and energy will be a premium, and also the nuts don't grind as fine as I'd like for some baking. What are the best sources and what is a reasonable price?
  25. In terms of soy intolerance, I agree that symptoms will be individual. What I did at about the 3 month mark Gluten-free Casein-free, was do some elimination testing. I eliminated all the grains first and then challenged them one by one. Rice seemed pretty ok, just a mild response. Corn was pretty iffy. I added in rice, and then eliminated all the legumes...
