  1. Have you tried the rice, peas, sweet potatoes with either chicken or turkey instead of beef? It can take more than a week and a half to two weeks to see a difference at times. If you frequently eat any of the above suggestions then use something else for your starting point. You should start out with stuff you rarely consume even though that usually means...
  2. Love your doggie. We have a cocker spaniel. Just noticed you have a birthday near mine too!

  3. Have you ever done the type of elimination diet where you start with 5 foods? You would start with foods you do not commonly eat, according to my allergist that way you would be starting with foods you are less likely to react to. For me that meant a starting point of turkey, rice, peas, sweet potatos and I was allowed cranberry juice. No coffee, tea or any...
  4. If you have gluten ataxia you can still have negative tests for celiac. False negatives are more common than what many doctors think. It can affect muscle movement as well as balance, at least it did with me. I even had difficulty swallowing by the time I was diagnosed. If you have had all celiac testing done then it wouldn't hurt to try the diet strictly...
  5. Not glad to hear your Dad has MS but I am glad to hear he wasn't just diagnosed based on symptoms. There are folks that have been and it has turned out to be ataxia rather than MS. Glad you seem to be finding stuff that is working for you and I hope you continue to improve. My own experience with a naturopathic doctor was awful he either soyed or glutened...
  6. Was your total IGA done? If you are IGA deficient your IGA related tests will be negative.
  7. In addition there is a difference between allergies and intolerances. The only real test for intolerances is to do as sahm suggested, eliminate the items completely for at least a couple weeks and then add them back in (one at a time) and see if you react. You may also want to try eating just whole unprocessed foods for a while and see if things improve...
  8. My dentist ordered a different impression material than they usually used for me because the other stuff was questionable. They also wouldn't use anything other than plain pumice to clean my teeth. I do think most of the stuff that they use is safe but there are exceptions and IMHO it is better to be safe and check than assume everything is ok.
  9. I have to agree with the previous poster. Itching really is quite common with celiac as it can lead to numerous skin conditions. It can also be a direct cause of elevated liver enzymes. Has your Dad been tested for celiac? When celiac attacks the brain the symptoms can be very similiar to MS and can also include brain lesions very much like MS lesions. Only...
  10. There is a lot to that statement. I think one of the problems is that celiac can be so multisystemic. Many doctors when stumped will send us off to this specialist and that specialist and each on only looks at symptoms related to their specialty. They never get together and realize that all the different syptoms they are looking at all are related to the...
  11. Many of us can have additional intolerances. Soy and dairy being the most common. If you haven't eliminated them you should give that a try. Are you living in a home with gluten eaters? If you are you need to be very careful about cross contamination. You need a seperate new toaster, your own new strainer and to replace wooden utensils that have been used...
  12. When blood tests are positive they are positive. False negatives are common but not false positives. It is up to you whether you want an endo or not. But if you do want one you do need to keep eating gluten until that is done. Even then you do have a risk of a false negative on the biopsy so go on the diet as soon as the test is done and stay on it even if...
  13. Raw veggies in salads can be hard to digest at first. Can you go with fresh meats, chicken, well cooked veggies and fruits and add in some potatoes or rice? You do need some carbs for a well balanced diet. How long have you been on the diet? We usually have some ups and downs while healing so that is to be expected.
  14. The only pet peeve I really have is the folks that come on one time to revive a tread that may be years old about an unsafe item and post that it is in reality safe for us for because it tests out at such and such a level so it doesn't matter that they use barley etc in it. Or the ones that announce they have found some 'miracle' cure that will allow us...
  15. When gluten contacts any mucous membrane it can trigger the antibodies into action. Since my reactions are much more than just GI related I choose to not have the antibodies activated and avoid gluten ingredients in all products. Perhaps some who don't have as much autoimmune impact as myself might feel safe using these products and that is their choice...
  16. Happy Birthday and have a pleasant and relaxing day.
  17. The doctors will want to do one but the choice is yours alone to make. There are also high rates of false negatives with both blood tests and biopsies so be sure to take your little one and yourself gluten free after all testing is finished no matter what the results. The truest test is the diet and not all symptoms are GI related.
  18. It is frustrating, to put it mildly, when we have been sick for so long and no doctor even thinks to test us or opens their mouth and tells us that many times the tests have false negative rates. Even when we go gluten free and the hordes of health issues resolve they still want to poison us for months to give us the 'official' diagnosis that is obvious in...
  19. You could ask your dentist about the orthodontia I don't know if braces would help or not. Perhaps a retainer? Don't know. A periodontist deals with gum issues and they might be able to do something if the wigglies are being caused by gum recession rather than bone loss. The D3 may help and make sure you are getting enough calcium.
  20. Wish all roommates were as great as you about being careful. Is this girlfreind a pretty new one? If he really likes her he may feel if he 'sticks to the rules' around her it will be too much for her and he will lose her. Do you have a good relationship with the girlfreind? If you do you could talk to her about it or maybe help him to do so.
  21. Do try the B12 but take the sublingual tabs that dissolve under the tongue as those will be able to enter your system bypassing your damaged intestines.
  22. I don't know. Have you seen your dentist? Gum inflammation can cause them to recede and if you can get a referral or an apointment with a peridontist they might be able to help.
  23. Meant to tell you this sooner....Maggie is adorable! Glad you went and rescued her...you are both lucky! You were right---it is taking time, but I am healing slowly but steadily! You're a sweetie and I will always appreciate all of your help and encouragement. Hugs, IH

  24. I agree completely. Too bad they don't do that maybe then so many of us wouldn't be labeled hypochodriacs! Plus they could learn what they need to tell their patients to keep them safe rather than just saying 'don't eat gluten, bye'.
