  1. It isn't just the inhalation issue with a wheat litter it is also the issue that the cat walks through it. Cat then cleans it paws and then cleans the rest of it's body and can transfer the dust into it's fur and then you pet the cat. Personally I use just a cheap clay based litter and for the same reasons as listed above I also use gluten grain free pet...
  2. You could certainly be one of us. However are you still doing a low gluten diet? If you are you need to go back to eating gluten before you can be tested for celiac. Give it a good 3 months with at least the equivalent of 3 to 4 slices of bread a day. Keep in mind that even after the gluten loading you could still have negative tests. After all your celiac...
  3. I also stay away from salad bars but that said I still have problems with lettuce. It isn't a gluten issue but I do my 'salads' without it even after all these years.
  4. I get The Grainless Baker 'Seasoned Stuffing Cubes'. I just make it by the package directions and will sometimes add in stuff like sauteed onions or celery. It's not bad for a mix.
  5. Yes this could possibly be celiac. Glad to hear she has an appointment with her ped. Make sure you tell him about her being woken up at night by the stomach pain. That is important because it means it is not likely to be IBS. Ask them to be sure to check all her vitamin levels to be sure she is not deficient. The sores, if at the corners of her mouth, could...
  6. The first thing you should do is get celiac testing done while you are still eating gluten. If those come back positive then you do need to avoid all gluten forever. There are false negatives on testing so you need to try the diet when all testing is finished. Healing time can vary for different people and if you have different systems effected, like GI along...
  7. Please don't stay away because you feel like this. We do understand how you feel. I also would urge you strongly to get some help from a good therapist with this. Drugging yourself isn't going to help although a doctor may be able to find something that is safe for you without putting you into a fog. If you are considering cutting please get yourself help...
  8. Welcome to the board. Try to read as much as you can here and ask any questions you need to. At first go with whole unprocessed foods, fresh meats, chicken, rice, potatoes, veggies, fruits etc are all going to be naturally gluten free. Can't say for sure but the colitis may resolve once you have been on the diet for a while. It is hard and a bit overwhelming...
  9. Before the GI doctor can do any testing for celiac, the OP will need to do the gluten challenge. That doesn't mean a GI doctor can't be consulted for other issues but if someone is gluten light or gluten free they can't be tested for celiac.
  10. When you say you have "been really trying to stay gluten free for the past year" does that mean that you have been having some slip ups? If you have you could be having delayed reactions to those rather than to what you just ate. It is a good idea to delete soy and dairy for now to see if those are an issue. Also make sure you are doing all you can at home...
  11. Welcome to the board. IMHO this is the most telling part of what you have said. People who don't have problems with gluten do not get sick from consuming it. If you feel the need to get a doctors diagnosis then you need to eat gluten at least 3 times a day for at least 3 months and then get tested. I have a feeling your body will give you the answer after...
  12. No you didn't miss any study. She has perhaps met some folks who are 'just going to try that gluten free thing' and seen them grab a piece of cake. It does sound like she really doesn't understand what celiac is. I do agree with you she may have been trying to be supportive as she was repling to a vent of your frustration. This is a great place to vent...
  13. Thanks, yea she is a stubborn sweet little pixie. I love the collie like coloring on her face. She still has a bit of hair that needs to grow back on her belly but she is doing really well in growback elsewhere. The blue eye makes her look at bit crazed at times and she does love that chewy, the only one I could find without gluten!
  14. Try just avoiding iodized salt, iodine in vitamins and seafood that is high in iodine first. That was all it took for me and my DH was quite severe. After you have been gluten free and DH outbreak free then do try adding iodine back in as it is an important nutrient.
  15. Thought I would post a link to Goya's gluten free listings. They see to be pretty aware of CC issues and list the items that are gluten free as well as items that are gluten free by ingredients and have a CC risk. Open Original Shared Link Also a freind was looking for a chicken base that would be safe for me as many have soy. This looks like a good...
  16. You say you were feeling quite well on the gluten free diet for a while then 'relapsed'. I would go back to the gluten free diet and drop the GAPS. Your body may not have healed enough to absorb the nutrients the need from that. Some of us become more sensitive or develop other intolerances after we have been gluten-free for just a bit. You may have been...
  17. I would get that pain until I eliminated soy. Pepto Bismal would help with that for me. If you haven't considered either dairy (casien) or soy as a possible issue you may want to eliminate them and see if it helps.
  18. You may want to consult with a therapist who deals with children. They can help you learn how to deal with the temper tantrums and other behavior issues. A few family visits may help Dad understand that a trial of the diet would also be a good idea and sure wouldn't hurt anything. Gluten intolerance and celiac can have negative effects on the brain which...
  19. Congratulations and welcome back.
  20. Yea it's for real. Amazing how many things improve that we would never think of as connected. Glad to hear you are healing well.
  21. I had floaters for years before diagnosis and every eye doctor I saw told me they were annoying but harmless. Since I am legally blind without glasses I have seen a lot of eye doctors on a regular basis. There is no way I would risk an eye surgery to get rid of them even if they were still present.
  22. Iodine is only an issue if you have DH as the iodine will keep the antibodies active in the skin. If you don't have DH don't worry about iodine as it is an important nutrient. Even folks with DH can usually add iodine back in after they have healed for a while. It is more likely the nuts either had barley or were CC'd.
  23. People that don't have gluten issues have no problem with eating it only occasionally. What you have done with your family is basically a gluten challenge and your husband and children reacted. There is nothing wrong with listening to your bodies and staying away from gluten. Do be aware though that if you do need a diagnosis, for example to keep the children...
  24. If you have a food pantry near by they might gladly take them even if there is a little bit out of the bottle. The pantry I volunteer at will take big bottles and break them down into smaller ones for smaller families. Your local pantry might do the same and toiletries are needed just as much a food is by many folks.
  25. Were you already gluten free when you had testing done? That will cause a false negative on testing since if you are already gluten free your antibody levels will go down. Which is what we want the diet to do. There are also pretty high rates of false negatives on both blood and biopsy even if we are on gluten. Your recovery on the diet is showing you that...
