ARCHIVED "drunk" After Eating Other Foods Like Broccoli, Rutabega, Avocado, Banana?
ravenwoodglass replied to PeachBlossoms's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Have you ever seen a good allergist who deals with intolerances as well as true allergies? One might be helpful. If you are calling around to find one do make sure that you ask if they deal with intolerances when making an appointment as not all do. One that deals with intolerances will test you for true allergies and then after a detailed list of what you... -
ARCHIVED Please Help! Stomach Rumbling And Sloshing
ravenwoodglass replied to lovetoski12's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
For me that was one of the first things that became annoying to me. So many think it is just because your hungrey but for me even in grade school I noticed if I ate breakfast my tummy would be grumbling all day. It got to the point in school where I would always have a sweater or coat on my lab to muffle the noise. After I was diagnosed that went away. My... -
ARCHIVED I Just Want The Holidays To Be Over
ravenwoodglass replied to alex11602's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Bring your own food, a cornish game hen stuffed along with a couple of sides or leftovers from a 'just your family' Thanksgiving meal the day before will make sure you have something safe to eat. The point of Thanksgiving is to be thankful and having been diagnosed and recovering your health is one real big thing to be thankful for this year. I hope you... -
ARCHIVED Karma Is A .....
ravenwoodglass replied to glutenfreemamax2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Happy Birthday, that sounds like a really sweet thing for him to do. I noticed you have a three year old that is gluten free. It is always advised that all 1st degree relatives of someone with celiac be tested. If it possible to convince him to do so he really should be tested himself. After I was finally diagnosed and recovered my kids got tested. Even... -
ARCHIVED A Miracle?!? - Change In My Reaction To Gluten
ravenwoodglass replied to lucia's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
False negatives on blood tests are not uncommon especially if they only do a partial panel or have not checked to see if you are IGA deficient. There are quite a few of us who suffered for years and years and were repeatedly blood test negative and told we had IBS. Your lucky in that you were able to get an endo even with a negative blood test result. You... -
ARCHIVED How Long Does It Take? Calling All Celiac And Dh Sufferers!
ravenwoodglass replied to Sam81's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It looks like you are making good progress. We don't heal overnight. It can take some time. Do avoid iodine also if you think you may have DH. Check all your toiletries also for gluten. I would not advise dapsone as it is very toxic and the DH will heal on it's own once you have been gluten-free for a while longer. -
ARCHIVED Can Stop Losing Weight
ravenwoodglass replied to chris4845's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Good, and keep eating it until your celiac testing is done. There are lots of reasons why someone might not be able to keep weight on so do get a full physical as well as the celiac testing. If you can get into your doctor sooner than a few weeks that might be a good idea. Are you having any issues other than the weight loss? -
ARCHIVED Thanksgiving Turkeys That Are Gluten Free
ravenwoodglass replied to DanielleR's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You may not have to go stuffing-less. If your local store has Grainless Baker products see if they carry or can get their stuffing mix. I add some sauteed celery and onions to it but it is also good just out of the box with nothing added. Also check the recipe section as I am sure some folks have posted recipes for gluten-free stuffing if it is something... -
ARCHIVED J&L Gluten Relief Product
ravenwoodglass replied to cbochner's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yes save your money and spend it on gluten free food. -
That's what we are all advised to do and many of us do eat that way and have for years. I don't think anyone was saying that the diet was not a good one and can be beneficial. What some of us do disagree with is the idea that it will somehow cure celiac disease and enable us to go back to eating gluten at a later time.

ARCHIVED Not Even Interested In A Diagnosis.
ravenwoodglass replied to CarrieVanLand's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the board. You may find your doctor gives you a diagnosis when your problems have resolved gluten free for a while. It sounds like the diet is making a real difference for you though and that is what counts most. If you have any questions feel free to ask. -
ARCHIVED I Suspect I Am Gluten Intolerant. Any Advice?
ravenwoodglass replied to LOWNskater52's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If this is all you are eating you are starving yourself. The three things added together make one full meal. You'll feel better if you start eating a protein source either meat, eggs, nut butters, chicken along with a starch like rice, potato, buckwheat etc and a veggie or fruit at each meal. Eggs are easy to cook. Heat a pan on the medium setting and melt... -
My blood pressure did go up but since it was so extremely low before diagnosis it is AFAIK still in normal ranges.

ARCHIVED Did Everyone Have A Biopsy To Determine Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to michelle5578's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
They ususally put people in a twilight sleep and you shouldn't remember any of the procedure. Make sure you don't go gluten free until the scope is done. Do keep in mind that even if your scope is negative that with positive blood tests you do need the diet. It isn't just the gut that celiac attacks. -
ARCHIVED I Suspect I Am Gluten Intolerant. Any Advice?
ravenwoodglass replied to LOWNskater52's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The rice cooker allows you to cook the rice in the bottom and steam the veggies and or leftover meat in the top at the same time. You should be going with easier to digest veggies than broccoli and be eating more balanced meals. Have a carb and some protein with that veggie. That will help keep your blood sugar stable. -
ARCHIVED Hypoglycemia
ravenwoodglass replied to pricklypear1971's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
It works because it is a combo of protein from the nuts and carbs from the sugar. Snacking with a protein and a carb at the same time is something that usually helps with low blood sugar. Nut butter on a apple slice or a piece of cheese and a couple crackers might also work. -
ARCHIVED Do Most Cases Of Celiac Begin By Leaky Gut?
ravenwoodglass replied to alicewa's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Many of us need to avoid dairy until we heal because we have trouble digesting it. After healing lots of us are able to add it back into our diets. I don't know of any relationship between type 1 diabetes and dairy consumption. While our chances of developing another autoimmune disease is there once we are diagnosed with one autoimmune disease that doesn... -
ARCHIVED I Suspect I Am Gluten Intolerant. Any Advice?
ravenwoodglass replied to LOWNskater52's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I hope they do too. Do you have a rice cooker? I often do some rice in the bottom of the cooker and steam veggies on the top. Quick and little prep other than rinsing the rice and cutting up the veggies if I am using fresh and not single ingredient frozen. If you don't have one you may want to pick one up. They aren't real expensive and they come in real... -
ARCHIVED Convinced I Have Celiac
ravenwoodglass replied to streethawk's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
A month gluten free is not long and it does take a while to heal. Hang in there. Go ahead and start taking the supplements just let your doctor know what you are taking. The pallor and dark circles could be from anemia so it is good that you are getting that checked. Do tell the doctor the progress you have made on the diet and know that you should continue... -
ARCHIVED I Suspect I Am Gluten Intolerant. Any Advice?
ravenwoodglass replied to LOWNskater52's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
"I am going to be eating plain organic chicken breast, with carrots or broccoli for every meal until I figure out what I have a problem with." The plain chicken (as long as it was not precooked in a deli) is good and so would a steak or homemade burger for variety as are the cooked carrots. You might want to switch the broccoli out with something like... -
ARCHIVED How Long B-4 Brain & Body Working?
ravenwoodglass replied to Tom2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It can be difficult to reenter the workforce when we still haven't fully healed. I don't know what your occupation was but there is a possibility that someplace like Vesid might be able to help you reenter the workforce in an occupation that you can handle. For myself I do volunteer work that has showed me how much stamina I really have and part time is really... -
ARCHIVED Getting Desperate For Answers
ravenwoodglass replied to tdogg097's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you had positive tests 2 years ago IMHO you don't need more testing. Get your hands on copies of those tests, you have a legal right to them. I would be switching doctors after I got my records if your doctor ignored this. Having those positive tests may help you get in to get an endo sooner, if you really feel you need one. If you don't want the endo... -
ARCHIVED Limited Gluten Diet And Testing?
ravenwoodglass replied to Mattie-Jack's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The equivalent of 3 to 4 slices of bread a day for 3 months is the standard advise. If the challenge makes you ill then you have your answer even if the tests are negative. -
ARCHIVED Rib Cage Woes.... Again & Again & Again
ravenwoodglass replied to pondy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I didn't get rid of that pain completely until I got rid of soy. If you are still consuming products with soy perhaps try dropping it for a bit to see if it helps. I also get it when CC'd but oddly enough it isn't as severe as when I get soyed. For me Pepto Bismal liquid usually helps a lot.
