ARCHIVED Ugh! Is Anything Safe?
ravenwoodglass replied to cait's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Some of us remain intolerant of gluten free oats long after we have healed. I have to avoid BRM products still for that reason. -
ARCHIVED Need Help! My Bro Has Problems
ravenwoodglass replied to donteatSAD's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The just fruit and veggies is not a real good idea. For one thing if he is not used to having a lot of fiber in his diet that could cause problems. He also needs a well balanced diet with protein. Better to go with fresh plain meats, veggies, rice or potatoes etc. Do take the needed precautions in the kitchen for him. He needs a new toaster, strainer for... -
ARCHIVED If I Cheat On My Gluten Free Diet, Could I Be More Likely To Get Type 1 Diabetes?
ravenwoodglass replied to alicewa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
First off tell your fiance the news. It is vital that you are open with him about this for the sake of your marriage. For one thing it is genetic, strongly so, and that means if and when you have children they may develop celiac also. If you hide it and he later finds out you knew before the wedding it may affect the trust level between you. If he loves you... -
ARCHIVED Peanut Butter Gluten Free?
ravenwoodglass replied to sillyyak's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Palm oil is coconut derived and is gluten free. -
There is a chance you may be redeployed. There are folks who have been deployed multiple times into war zones. When you get back to the states you may want to go back on gluten and get diagnosed. Some branches of the service will keep you but not deploy you to areas where gluten-free food is not available some will discharge you. Hiding the symptoms can be...

ARCHIVED Genes !
ravenwoodglass replied to DVjorge's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms

ARCHIVED Struggling To Cope With Boyfriend's Mother
ravenwoodglass replied to nikky's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I can't know for sure but I think what you said that I bolded may hit the nail on the head. Maybe he can take the money he gives her and get a small studio apt somewhere or find a place that needs another roommate. I am so sorry you two are having to go through this. She has no business going through his room. I never would have done that with my young adults... -
Yes brain fog is often part of celiac. As was mentioned sublingual B12 tablets may help with that. While I am glad the diet is helping you please be aware that if you need to be diagnosed when you get back to the states you will need to get back on gluten for about 3 months or so first. Please stay safe and let us know that you have come home safely. We worry...

ARCHIVED Genes !
ravenwoodglass replied to DVjorge's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I know it sounds strange but what genes are considered celiac associated genes can vary from country to country. Many people have the associated genes but don't develop celiac and just having the genes is not diagnostic. We have much, much more to learn about the genetics involved with celiac and gluten intolerance. -
ARCHIVED Struggling To Cope With Boyfriend's Mother
ravenwoodglass replied to nikky's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Could you get some stuff like pnut butter, crackers, dinty moore beef stew or other shelf stable stuff that you can keep in your boyfreinds room? While it sounds like this woman is a real witch she may have fears that you and her son are going to do something like get married or move in together and he will forgo college or that you may end up having a... -
ARCHIVED I'm Back
ravenwoodglass replied to unknown's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It is hard at first but it will easier. Your not the only one who has had gallbladder issues and thought taking care of that would be the answer so your not alone in that respect. We are here to help in any way we can. Your local food pantry will gladly accept any gluteny items you need to get out of the house and you can always deduct them as a charitable... -
ARCHIVED Really Scared- Please Any Advice/experience!?
ravenwoodglass replied to bny06's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You have only been gluten free for a month. Do not let this doctor worry you too much. You still have a lot of healing to do. I had so many dire things that they thought was wrong with me and it turned out that pretty much everything was related to celiac. Can't say for sure that will be the case for you but chances are good that things will improve once... -
ARCHIVED Gastroparesis And Maybe Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to Greg85's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Spinach would not likely be a very good choice to add in first off if you are only able to tolerate potatos at this point. Add in some other well cooked easy to digest veggie or fruit instead like applesauce, peas or sweet potatoes. Adding some baked plain chicken might also be a good idea as you need some protein. As far as celiac goes if you are already... -
ARCHIVED Struggling To Cope With Boyfriend's Mother
ravenwoodglass replied to nikky's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Glad to hear he is sticking up for you. This woman may find herself very lonely in her elderly years as if she keeps going like she is she will drive her son away from her forever whether he is with you or someone else. -

ravenwoodglass replied to heyteacher's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms

ARCHIVED Figureda Few Things Out
ravenwoodglass replied to bartfull's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I get a lot of tooth and jaw pain when I get glutened so your not alone. Where is the lump? If it is under the jaw it may be a gland. My entire body was full of swollen glands prediagnosis and it took a long time to go away. Doctors always said it was because I had either 'pickers acne' or dermatitis, actually it was DH. Hopefully your glands will go down... -
ARCHIVED Struggling To Cope With Boyfriend's Mother
ravenwoodglass replied to nikky's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I wouldn't even be cooking in her kitchen because it is likely a gluten minefield even if the food you are cooking is gluten free. The answer to the problem is to cook for yourself and your boyfreind at your home and to avoid hers like the plague. Eat your meals at home and just bring a wrapped snack with you. Why isn't your boyfreind laying down the law... -
Some of us become more sensitive to gluten after we have started to heal. Can you tell us what you are typically eating? Whole unprocessed foods are the best and safest. Have you been doing much eating in restaurants? Those can be risky for us. Hopefully you have changed out your toaster, replaced scratched non-stick pans, your strainer and wooden cutting...

ARCHIVED Multiple Sclerosis Workup
ravenwoodglass replied to bny06's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you have been taking the sublinguals every day go to every couple of days instead. I was doing some research on high levels of B12 a while back because on my last test they were over 1,000 also. I think I bookmarked the study on my other computer and will see if I can find it later but I seem to recall that in some instances too much can cause symptoms... -

ARCHIVED Please Help! New Celiac In Need Of Advice
ravenwoodglass replied to MandaSue's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We often have ups and downs in the beginning and it doesn't help that some of us will have delayed reactions. It may not have been the meal that you ate right before you felt ill that got you it might have even been something from a day or two before. Have you taken care to get a new toaster, strainer and replaced scratched non-stick pans and wooden utensils... -
I am one of the few who do react to distilled gluten and Heinz is the company I go with for vinegar. Although most US made distilled are from corn who knows where GV brand is made or what it is distilled from. I would also drop the Simply Orange for a bit and then challenge it when your feeling better. It was a long time ago but I had an awful reaction that...

ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge For Diagnosis?
ravenwoodglass replied to glutenfreemamax2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It sounds like your son's GI should also be your GI. My GI doctor also considers this a valid form of diagnosis. He has everyone who has celiac symptoms and negative tests do the diet for a time and then challenge as part of the diagnosis process as he recognizes the high failure rate of blood tests and biopsies.
