ARCHIVED Gastroscopy - What Can They Tell Right Away?
ravenwoodglass replied to Arginin's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There are times when they can see changes that are signs when they do the scope. Some doctors recognize these changes and some don't. If your son has had positive blood work he needs the diet no matter what the results of the scope. If he has had the blood work done then as soon as the scope is done have him gluten free, even if the blood work was negative... -
ARCHIVED Glutenized By Something Non Gluten
ravenwoodglass replied to 175comet's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Neither the biopsy or the blood test is 100% accurate. In fact the false negative rate is 20 to 30%. It can take a while for neuro symptoms to resolve and that fact that you are now having digestive issues when you consume gluten is significant. So if you really feel you need a doctors diagnosis then do go back to gluten for a good 3 months or more but be... -
ARCHIVED Fruit And Vegetables
ravenwoodglass replied to BakingQueen's topic in Super Sensitive People
I am very sensitive but all I have ever needed to do is to wash with running water and then I wipe dry with a rough towel. But I did that even before I went gluten free. One thing I don't do is buy cut up fruit. I kept getting glutened and couldn't figure out why until one day I walked into the back room at my favorite small family owned grocery and saw... -
ARCHIVED Nine Months Of Recovery
ravenwoodglass replied to AVR1962's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It is known that stress can be a trigger or excaberate symptoms. So yes the stress could have triggered the disease and then the cleanse brought you over the edge where the presentation became more obvious. -
ARCHIVED Generic Prozac
ravenwoodglass replied to glutenfreemamax2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
They can contain wheat starch. Because wheat starch is considered gluten free I usually tell them I have a wheat allergy. I take a med that has a name brand form that ISN'T gluten free, my doctor called the company while I sat there, and he then called on a generic form and that was safe. -
ARCHIVED Kids' Science Project
ravenwoodglass replied to melissa222's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
4. Too many to count. 5. B although I did notice some difference in 1-2 weeks but it was years before I was fully healed. -
When the blood test is positive you have celiac. If after your challenge the scope is negative please don't think you can safely eat gluten.

ARCHIVED My Test Results...pretty Sure There Is No Chance These Are Positive
ravenwoodglass replied to Metoo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
False negatives are also posible for a variety of reasons. After you're done with all testing give the diet a good strict try if your symptoms suggest celiac. Being gluten free will only effect testing for celiac if you should have something else going on being gluten free will not mask it. -
ARCHIVED Just Diagnosed
ravenwoodglass replied to Silencio's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Call the GI and ask if they are going to do an endo. If they are you could end up with a false negative on testing. If dairy doesn't bother you then go ahead and keep it in. The reason we are advised to eliminate dairy is because the same area of the intestines that is damaged by celiac is the area that produces the enzyme we need to help digest dairy. It... -
ARCHIVED Normal On Gluten Free Diet?
ravenwoodglass replied to Metoo's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I don't know if the shakes are gluten free or not but I do know that it is best if you wait to try gluten free oats. Some of us are intolerant of them so wait until you have well healed before trying those out. In the meantime there are oat free breakfast cereals that are hot. I like Cream of Buckwheat. -
ARCHIVED Just Diagnosed
ravenwoodglass replied to Silencio's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Do be sure to keep eating gluten until after you see the GI doctor if you are going to have an endo. If dairy is bothering you then go ahead and stay dairy free for now as that won't effect any testing the GI might do. While blood in the stool is not a common celiac problem it can happen for a variety of reasons. Celiac is not solely a GI disease so you... -
ARCHIVED Waiting For Test Results
ravenwoodglass replied to staceyk1p1's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You can have celiac and still have tests in normal ranges. After all your testing for celiac is done, including the endo if you are going to have one, then give the diet a good strict try for a couple months and see if it helps. Sometimes our bodies give the answer that the tests cannot. -
ARCHIVED I Can't Eat Anything!
ravenwoodglass replied to heidi g.'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If this is gene testing don't let them tell you that you can't be celiac if by some chance you don't have one of the two most common genes. There are many more celiac associated genes than they commonly test for here. -
I have to agree. I ended up doing two challenges. The first for my allergist and when I reacted on day three violently he told me to stop and never touch gluten again. Of course I then went to my GI for confirmation and of course he demanded another challenge by day three of that one I was laying on the bathroom floor with an intestinal bleed. That had never...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Gravy Product
ravenwoodglass replied to Darn210's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My local Wegmans started stocking these along with Grainless Baker Seasoned Stuffing Mix around last Thanksgiving. If I want gravy these are the ones I grab. They are really pretty good. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge While Dealing With Other Issues
ravenwoodglass replied to domesticactivist's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I used Cream of Wheat 3 times a day when I challenged because the doctor only wanted me to challenge with single ingredient foods. I think that would be a lot tastier than flour mixed with water if you want to challenge just wheat. -
ARCHIVED Can Colonoscopy Find Worms?
ravenwoodglass replied to Jai's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The test your doctor gave you is likely a test for occult or hidden blood. The tests to check for worms would not have those restrictions. -
ARCHIVED I Can't Eat Anything!
ravenwoodglass replied to heidi g.'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Sorry your having such a rough time of it right now. There is nothing wrong with taking a break while you are healing. School will still be there when your feeling better. Do make sure to talk to your advisor and withdraw formally so it won't impact your grades. Your doctor may even be able to write a letter stating that you are too ill right now to attend... -
ARCHIVED Ezekiel 4:9 Sprouted Grain Bread
ravenwoodglass replied to SBisglutenfree's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Welcome to the board. Are you having trouble finding gluten free replacements for some stuff? If you are we may have some suggestions to make things easier. So ask any questions you need to. -
ARCHIVED Can Colonoscopy Find Worms?
ravenwoodglass replied to Jai's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Give your doctors office a call and ask to speak to a nurse. You should be able to pick up the stuff you need to do the stool samples and may even have a report back as to whether or not worms are an issue the day they do the procedure. -
ARCHIVED Nine Months Of Recovery
ravenwoodglass replied to AVR1962's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That's great news. So glad to hear you are feeling better and that it sounds like you found a good doctor. -
ARCHIVED Intrahepatic Stones And Liver Function
ravenwoodglass replied to alicewa's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
No. They are trying to sell their cleansing products. Which by the way can be dangerous for us to use. -
ARCHIVED Can Colonoscopy Find Worms?
ravenwoodglass replied to Jai's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Some kinds would likely be found because they attach to the intestinal wall and a cleanse might not dislodge them. If you think you might have worms then IMHO the best thing to do is to discuss this with your doctor and have stool samples done. Ususally when looking for worms they will have you do 3 seperate samples for inspection microscopically. -
ARCHIVED I Suspect I Am Gluten Intolerant. Any Advice?
ravenwoodglass replied to LOWNskater52's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
As hard as I know it is you really need to be leaving the precooked deli food alone for a while. The chance of CC is just too high. Get some fresh or frozen and cook them up at home. -
Personally I would let him be gluten free until he is older or perhaps let him have a bit at a sitters or grands house. I don't know that much about the study that was done but introducing gluten between 4 and 6 months sure didn't prevent my children, or myself for that matter, from becoming celiac. I would have given anything for my son not to have developed...
