  1. If a search can find the companies contact info then give them a call to be sure.
  2. They should be but if in doubt call the doctors office and find out the company that makes them and then enter the name and the words contact info in a search engine to find out how to contact them and then call. In my limited, non professional experience most injectables if not all are safe.
  3. I think your primary is a lot smarter than your GI. It is not unusual for GI doctors to be clueless. Mine wouldn't even consider celiac since I am negative on blood tests until the challenge he demanded almost killed me with a severe GI bleed. Glad you got the answer to what was causing your problems and are healing.
  4. Just my opinion but I would say it is the celiac that leads to the leaky gut not the other way around. Celiac does require a trigger for many of us and any illness or severe stress can be that trigger. If you are celiac then no you can't go back to eating gluten after it heals as the gluten will just damage the intestines and bring the leaky gut back.
  5. Ignore the brother as it isn't going to do you any good to get angry with him. Brothers can be a real pain even into adulthood. Heck any family can be hard to deal with at times. A colonscopy will not show any evidence of celiac disease it is the endo that you need for diagnosis. Enterolab testing can be part of the diagnostic picture for some folks but...
  6. Ditto I haven't bought anything from a bulk bin since I was diagnosed.
  7. If you can try to get the doctor to do both procedures at the same time. That way you will only have one copay for the anesthesiologist and the procedure room. Don't be concerned that the doc is getting you in so quickly some of us have to continue suffering on gluten for a couple months before we can get in. If you have been gluten light then you have an...
  8. Even if the bags are open if the candy is wrapped inside your local food bank will be happy to use it and the clients will be happy to recieve a treat.
  9. Many celiacs have a trigger event and the illness you required the antibiotics for my have been your trigger or may have excaberated the disease. Antibiotics will cause an imbalance in the intestinal bacteria that is normally present. That can cause D and other intestinal problems until they come back into balance. They will not flatten villi. The autoimmune...
  10. If by challenge you mean you went back to eating gluten and you got sick you really do have the answer as to whether you need to be gluten free even if your doctor didn't do all the tests he should have.
  11. It isn't just your intestines that are a concern if you are celiac. Some of us have no intestinal symptoms at all. The antibodies can attack any organ so you are risking damage to your brain, gallbladder, liver, joints and muscles etc and also end you up with lymphoma or other cancers. Please if you are a celiac avoid even small amounts of CC. It is just...
  12. Neither have I and I have done a lot of research in the last 9 years. I would be very interested in seeing what research the doctor was referring to.
  13. If you are celiac reintroducing gluten in a few years is a real mistake. Doctors thought for years that celiac was a childhood illness and that kids would outgrow it because after years gluten free they seemed not to react to gluten when it was reintroduced. We now know that it not the case but it can take a while for the symptoms to become pronounced again...
  14. Since you are still having mild problems you may have some gluten sneaking in somewhere. It could be toiletries, pet food, processed foods that are CC'd in the plant, a significant other who eats gluten and doesn't brush teeth before kissing etc. Also be sure you are checking all meds both script and OTC. If you take any generic meds those should be checked...
  15. Keep in mind that blood tests do have false negatives. You should still be eating gluten in case they want to do a endo with biopsies (if you are willing to have that done). Do try the diet strictly after the testing is over and as was mentioned by others do avoid soy and dairy for a bit when you go gluten free. Going with well cooked mild veggies like peas...
  16. Don't worry about insulting your doctor, he is working for you. Go in with a list of your symptoms and simply request a full celiac panel along with a total IGA. Make sure you are eating a regular gluten filled diet until all testing for celiac is done and when that is finished do a trial of the gluten-free diet no matter what the results are. False negatives...
  17. False negatives on testing are not uncommon. You could still be celiac even with negative blood work. If you are going to have an endo with biopsies then keep eating gluten until that is done. After all testing is done do a strict trial of the diet to see if it helps.
  18. If your local store stocks regular Snyder's pretzels they should be able to get the gluten free ones for you. Just ask the manager to find out.
  19. Baking gluten-free bread is nothing like baking a gluten bread it is mainly dump the ingredients in a bowl, mix and plop in a pan. Quite a difference from the rise, knead, rise sort of thing with gluten breads. If you can bake a gluten cake mix you can bake gluten free bread. You might want to try mixing some up and seeing how it comes out before spending...
  20. Thanks for posting. I have already passed it on to family and freinds. Happy Halloween!!!!!
  21. Yea I would react very badly to the barley malt in that. For me the worst of the reaction is a couple of days after I eat the offending food. Just be prepared in case that happens to you also. If you are celiac you can't do 'just a little bit of gluten' as the reaction is an antibody reaction and it takes very little to flare those antibodies. There are candy...
  22. I went out and bought a bread machine and lots of different flours and such and ended up regretting it. The initial outlay was very pricey when I got all I needed and since our breads don't require kneading it is just as easy to use a mixer and then pour the batter into a bread pan. If you don't have a stand mixer that might be a better thing to ask for....
  23. Call your doctors office and ask to speak to a nurse. Often you won't need an appointment to request celiac testing if this is your regular doctor as his records will show the problems you have been having. You should be able to just pick up a lab slip or the doctor can call in the request. Keep in mind though that since you have been low gluten you tests...
  24. Iodine is not required for a DH outbreak but it keeps the antibodies active in the skin and if the antibodies are still present even the tiniest amount of gluten will cause an outbreak. I simply dropped iodized salt and made sure my vitamins didn't have iodine in them and that was enough for me. One problem I had with the facial lesions was that I kept...
  25. Perhaps they are allowed to do that because they test below a certain level, I don't know for sure but do know for sure that I wouldn't eat them.
