For the balance issues if you can get a referral from your doctor, maybe from the chiro even, a physical therapist may be able to also help speed healing along. Glad to hear the chiro was able to help a bit and if that stuff starts happening again you can nip it in the bud with and adjustment.

ARCHIVED Cleaning Counters/utensils
ravenwoodglass replied to Kelby's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You do need to replace the items Sylvia mentioned. If you have favorite cast iron pans some folks have spoken of putting them thru the self clean option on their ovens and then reseasoning. As far as cleaning goes. We pulled everything out of the cupboards that had gluten foods and wiped those down well (our whole home became gluten free) and the same with... -
ARCHIVED Update From Post Below Got Biopsy Reports From 2004
ravenwoodglass replied to jenny2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If your not already now is the time to start the diet strictly. You don't have to wait for the test results. If your having gluten issues having those resolve are the best proof of whether you need the diet or not as the tests can have a lot of false negatives. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Is Still Sneaking In On Me

Sounds like you found what the issue was. Glad your feeling better. -
ARCHIVED Could This Be A Major Breakthrough?
ravenwoodglass replied to pain*in*my*gut's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would agree. At this point in this country they don't seem to recognize that celiac can have severe nerve impact independant of the gut issues. In some other countries they do. People with DH are considered celiac even if they have no gut issues. Someday perhaps this country will recognize that brain impact is also celiac and it can show up at times long... -
ARCHIVED Would You Call This "undiagnosed Celiac"?
ravenwoodglass replied to Staceyshoe's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It does sound like it. If he is still on gluten can your doctor run a full panel? Another thing is that some doctors will give a diagnosis if the person recovers well on the diet and is made ill when gluten is injested. You could talk to your doctor about that possibility. -
ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Daughter In College
ravenwoodglass replied to atzmmommy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Would her doctor write a note stating that for her the gluten free diet is a medical need? The disability office at the college may be able to help so do contact them and explain what is going on. The school needs to make safe food available for her. Some schools will let her put a microwave and small frig in her room and allow you to opt out of the meal... -
I agree with your doctor as that was my experience. It did take a while as I had some nerves damaged in a way that caused pain and others that were basically 'dead' in other words the nerves were so damaged that no signals got through. For me the nerves that were causing pain healed first but the dead ones took much longer. Pain was relieved in a relatively...

ARCHIVED Please Take My Quiz
ravenwoodglass replied to alexsami's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
ans. A Your not crazy and there are a lot of reasons for a false negative on a biopsy including having been gluten free for a month before it was done. Your blood test is positive and your doctor may give you an 'official' diagnosis once your health issues disappear on the diet and accidental glutenings (which usually happen to all of us at first) bring... -
I was not fortunate enough to have been diagnosed in childhood so I simply want to welcome you to the board. I do know your not alone as it used to be thought that children would outgrow celiac. We know now that isn't the case. I hope you heal quickly and do feel free to ask any questions you might need to.

ARCHIVED Could These Be Symptoms Of Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to Nami's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
First if you have been on the diet for 3 weeks you would need to go back on gluten for a bit to get tested. Many of us become more sensitive after we have gone gluten free and the symptoms become worse when we get CC'd. That is a good sign that the diet is what you need. CC can come from a variety of places in a mixed household, shared toaster, condiments... -
ARCHIVED No Safe Food?
ravenwoodglass replied to chrissygirlca's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes you do need to check your lipstick and gloss. Most toothpastes are gluten free but do check those also. Ask in the products section if your favorites are safe or check with the maker. People will also give you ideas of what they are using. Many of us go with totally gluten free topicals because anything that gets on your hands or skin can get to your... -
ARCHIVED No Safe Food?
ravenwoodglass replied to chrissygirlca's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It is possible to be sensitive to ingredients in supplements and personally I go for ones that are minimal ingredients. I never add more than one new supplement at a time as that way I will know within a week it if is giving me problems. I don't know if that might be helpful for you to do for a bit also. If your having a lot of issues with gas do delete... -
ARCHIVED Interpreting Lab Results
ravenwoodglass replied to jmrogers31's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Even on a full gluten diet some of us show up as a false negative. 2 months gluten-free is definately long enough to skew the results into a false negative. The most important thing is how your body is reacting to the diet. If you are feeling better and saw a resolution of symptoms gluten free and become ill when you injest gluten then you are wise to remain... -
ARCHIVED Hida Scan Results

We will have to agree to disagree about that. -
ARCHIVED Hida Scan Results
ravenwoodglass replied to swcom120's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Actually the sublingual B12 is absorbed through the mucous membranes in the mouth. You are supposed to hold the tablet under you tongue or between cheek and gums until it is completely dissoved. You do have to be careful not to chew it but it will dissolve pretty quick. -
Name brand Xanax is not gluten free. The generic, Alprazolam, made by Sandoz is unless they changed it recently. I have been taking it safely for quite some time. If your's is made by a different company put the company name and the words contact info into a search engine and you should get a telephone number to call the company directly and ask. I usually...

ARCHIVED Chromogranin A Lab Test
ravenwoodglass replied to bny06's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have never had this test done, to my knowledge, but I did look it up. Try not to be too worried but do follow up on this with your doctor. Wishing you the best and let us know what the doctor has to say and how you are doing. -
ARCHIVED How Long Did It Take You To Feel Better?
ravenwoodglass replied to Jessica N.'s topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It can take a bit of time to feel better once you go gluten free. Your thoughts on dropping dairy for a bit is good as it is hard for us to digest until we have healed. Go with as much whole unprocessed food as you can to heal the fastest. Fresh meats, chicken, fish with rice, potatos, beans, veggies and fruits should be the main part of your diet. Do be... -
ARCHIVED My Progress/fiber Question
ravenwoodglass replied to josh052980's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That's good news that you are doing much better. Hopefully when you say you have 'at least an apple a day' that isn't the only fruit and veggies you are eating. Try to get at least 4 or 5 servings of a mix of veggies and fruits a day. Sweet potatoes are a good source of fiber also if you like them. Mske sure the oatmeal you are eating is the gluten free one... -
Cutting out the dairy and soy is a good idea. What are you using as a dairy replacement? If you are going with Rice Milk make sure it is not Rice Dream as that is not safe for us despite it being labeled gluten free. Are you taking any supplements, script or OTC drugs? Labeling laws are different for those than they are for foods. If you supplement has wheat...

ARCHIVED Help Interpreting Lab Results?
ravenwoodglass replied to amandapants's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have to echo what Mushroom said. Try the diet you have nothing to lose but the pain. Your original blood tests were positive, did you get copies of the new ones? Also get a copy of the actual biopsy reports and how many samples did they test? Damage can be patchy or the tests can be a false negative for a variety of reasons. The truest test is how you respond... -
My bone pain was related to two things, gluten and soy. I don't know if you are consuming soy but if you are maybe try dropping it for a bit. When get CC'd and I have these issues now heat, I use a hot shower or bath, and asprin seem to help the most.

They appear to be a good vitamin but if you are sensitive to oats or soy they may not be for you as they contain both. ARCHIVED Test Results For 1 Year Old
ravenwoodglass replied to usafgirl77's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree with the others. Your child is clearly celiac. Keep him gluten free and your ped can check if those levels are going down in a few months. You have all the diagnosis you need and there is no need to poison him to prove it to the GI doctor.
