  1. The research into gluten ataxia is not extensive. That is one reason why I would like to have another MRI to see if the lesions, I had 5, are still present. The lesions are called UBOs or unidentified bright objects and are very similiar to the lesions found in MS but not in the same place. Those lesions are diagnostic of celiac that has attacked the brain...
  2. Yes being gluten free for a month could make a difference even with a week of adding it back in. Your doctor was wrong about that. How did you react to adding gluten back in? If you had issues when you added it back in for a week then your body is giving you the answer.
  3. You need to talk to your command and ask how they are going to feed you gluten free in the field. It could be rather dangerous to be in the middle of a mission and have to excuse yourself from the fight to go behind a bush. While not all celiacs are automatically discharged since celiac affects both physical and mental health most are not deployed into a...
  4. Glad you finally got a diagnosis and it sounds like you have a good doctor. With the diabetes test make sure they do an A1C as well as blood glucose levels. If you are still ill from gluten or have recently been sick that can raise the BG levels. The A1C will help them decide if you really have BS issues or if it is elevated because of illness. The reason...
  5. Talk to your vet about that possibility. Doggie Alzheimers is awful but there are things they can do to help if that is what it is. We had a dog go through that and he was with us for a few months after diagnosis. We finally had to call it the end when he would get 'lost' in my bedroom. It was sad to have to let him go but in the end that was what we had...
  6. If your over 50 or have colon cancer in your family history then you could go ahead and get the screening done if you want to. If the whole purpose of the colonoscopy is diagnostic, ie the doctor wants to rule out Chrons or IBD you could wait until you have been on the diet for a bit and see if symptoms resolve and then if they don't you could scedule one...
  7. I can only answer for myself but I had severe ataxia that had been progressing since my late childhood. Doctors thought my odd gait was due to leg and foot deformities but they got worse instead of better after my surgeries. They did send me to PT and Mom also made sure I got ballet lessons and I did yoga all of which helped for a bit but the ataxia was still...
  8. The blood work you are going to want after you have been back on gluten for at least 2 to 3 months are a celiac panel, hopefully with the newest DGP as well as the antigliadin IGA, IGG, TTG and a total IGA. It would be a good idea to have a vitamin and mineral panel done also to check your B's, iron, D etc.
  9. It can take some time for antibodies to build up to a reaction when we have celiac or gluten intolerance. Your couple days to have a GI reaction follows that typical pattern. Now you have to decide if feeling like this for another 2 to 3 months is worth getting an 'official' diagnosis. You could still show a false negative on blood work or biopsy even after...
  10. Glad you are in tune with him and are able to get him right into the vet. Wait until after you see the vet before you give him any OTC stuff to help him relax. You want the vet to see what you are seeing. Let us know how things went. Hope all is well.
  11. Yes the biopsies could say something different as often the damage is not visible to the eye. I don't remember if you had positive blood work, if you did then you definately need the diet. If you didn't have positive bloods but you are done with celiac related testing now you do the diet strictly to see if it helps.
  12. Whether you choose to do more testing or not is entirely up to you and with your past positive endo and recovery on the diet some doctors would give you the 'official' diagnosis if you need one any reason. If you do need to have more testing you might request that they run a full celiac panel on you first thing. Just because you were negative before doesn...
  13. If you had flattened villi chances are really high you have celiac and your blood tests were a false negative. Have they run the blood tests again? You could be positive by now if you continued to eat gluten. What you need is another endo to see if your villi are still flattened as the other tests wouldn't show the damage. After all your celiac related...
  14. I don't show up in blood tests so I don't have them redone but if you do they should be done at about the 6 month mark to see if they have gone down. It is good to have vitamin and mineral panels done periodically when you have your checkups. Bone denisity screening should be done for a baseline and later to see if things have improved gluten-free if osteopenia...
  15. Is your Mom's kitchen gluten free? If not you would be better off going to a discount or dollar store for the cutting board.
  16. If you are celiac or gluten intolerant you can never go back to eating gluten. Once your body has started to make antibodies to gluten it will make them again if you start to eat it again although it can take a while for the symptoms to again become obvious. There are quite a few folks, up to 20% that show a false negative on blood tests and/or biopsies...
  17. Celiac can cause inflammation in just about any area of your body. I got very lucky and my arthritis went into remission after a few months on the diet but not all see the same results. If you want more testing you do have to go back on gluten until that is done. The diet won't effect testing for anything other than celiac though. Do go with as much whole...
  18. Many doctors are very misinformed where it comes to celiac disease. It sounds like the diet is helping and in the long run that is what is most important. There are quite a few folks on the board who have dealt with doctors like yours and had to resort to simply dropping gluten to see if it helps. At this point you would have to go back on gluten to get any...
  19. That is what I would likely do as well as keeping all my utensils, pots and pans etc in your room. Perhaps get a dishpan and put your dirty rinsed dishes in there when you don't feel like washing right away. Cover them with a dishrag and a post it saying don't wash please.
  20. I also have used minute rice, great to throw in soups right before serving. I also use just plain white and brown rice as well as wild. I rinse well before cooking.
  21. Maggie and I are doing great, thanks for asking. She is quite the character.

  22. I'm just wondering how you and Maggie are doing.

  23. Welcome to the board. It is true that to get tested you do need to go back on gluten for about 3 months and you could still have a false negative. If that is not an option for you then you can simply go gluten free strictly. Yes it is restrictive especially at first. It is easiest to go with whole unprocessed foods. There is a link at the top of the page...
  24. And some can have the levels fall very quickly especially if the levels were a low positive to begin with. You also could have a false negative. If you want to get retested go back on gluten for a couple of months and retest. Also be sure to get your hands on the actual copies of the results as some doctors will call a low positive a negative. When you are...
  25. If you are still eating a gluten full diet then it wouldn't hurt to ask for a celiac panel. You need tobe actively consuming gluten for celiac testing and if you have been gluten light or gluten free you need to go back on gluten for at least 3 months for testing. When all your testing is finished then give the diet a good strict try and see if it helps.
