ARCHIVED Nocturnal Diarrhea
ravenwoodglass replied to catarific's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
For me that is typical of a glutening. When I was finally diagnosed I mentioned to my GI that it was nice to finally have a full nights sleep. He had diagnosed me for years with IBS. When I made that statement he said 'why didn't you tell me you were being woken up at night, that isn't an IBS symptom that is typical of celiac'. I had told him but he wasn... -
ARCHIVED Possible Bowel Obstruction Or Bacteria Overgrowth
ravenwoodglass replied to Anya78's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I think your theory is likely right on. We can't be 'almost gluten free' and heal. Whether the problems he is having now are a result of that I can't really say. If after all the testing is done for other problems if they can't pinpoint the cause of the issues perhaps you can talk to him and get him to really go gluten free. -
ARCHIVED Carnation Instant Breakfast
ravenwoodglass replied to holdthegluten's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Correct, it is not safe for us to use. -
ARCHIVED Could It Be Crohn's
ravenwoodglass replied to Kquad's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
False positives on blood tests are really pretty rare. False negatives on endos are not uncommon. You colonoscopy will be able to rule out chrons and there are folks that can have both. 2 and a half weeks gluten free isn't really enough time to fully heal but it sounds like you are healing. Do keep to the diet and be sure to take the precautions we need to... -
ARCHIVED Philosophy Skincare Miracle Worker Product Line
ravenwoodglass replied to irisheyes13's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have to avoid soy also as I have an actually allergy to it as well as intolerance and soy breaks me out really badly. Garneir is really good at labeling and they have very few, if any, products that have gluten or soy. I also use their hair products. -
ARCHIVED Philosophy Skincare Miracle Worker Product Line
ravenwoodglass replied to irisheyes13's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use mostly the Ultra-Lift Pro night cream and Ultra Lift products. I also use their cleansers and scrubs. I really like them a lot. -
ARCHIVED Results Of Blood Work
ravenwoodglass replied to tera200's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
While the IGA was negative the IGG wasn't. After all testing is done a good strict trial of the diet would be a good thing as false negatives are common but false positives are not. -
ARCHIVED Just Diagnosed. Confused And Curious!
ravenwoodglass replied to wook's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
1. When celiac blood tests are positive they are positive. They are pretty specific to celiac disease. 2.Celiac is autoimmune. Your body is making antibodies that attack your own tissues as a reaction to gluten. You need to cut out all gluten, even the small amount in soy sauces and the barley malt commonly found in cereals will keep the antibodies active... -
ARCHIVED Finally Diagnosised With Celiac's
ravenwoodglass replied to cahill's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It sounds like you finally found a good doctor. Now you can heal and encourage the rest of your family to be tested. I hope things improve for you very soon. -
ARCHIVED Scalloped Folds In Duodenum?
ravenwoodglass replied to milkmommy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
With a high positive blood test and the scalloping you are definately in the right place. The scalloping is typical of celiac. You can now go gluten free, you don't need to wait on the biopsies. You do need the diet regardless of the biopsy result. -
Children have an even higher rate of false negatives on blood and biopsy than adults do. Your son had a very high positive test. On the endo his damage may be patchy and an area that is affected that they didn't read on the scope. Personally I would take that child gluten free. It certainly isn't going to hurt the other child to be gluten free at this stage...

ARCHIVED Amy's Gluten Free Spinach Pizza
ravenwoodglass replied to Pamela B.'s topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Amy's products seem to have a CC risk. I use Kinnickinnick shells, 4 to a $9 package, and keep Hormel pepperoni on hand. When I feel like a 'do it yourself' fresh crust to me you can't beat Gluten Free Pantries French Bread mix. It makes a great deep dish crust once you get used to spreading it with a spacula. -
ARCHIVED Philosophy Skincare Miracle Worker Product Line
ravenwoodglass replied to irisheyes13's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use the Garnier line for older skin and am quite happy with it. The commercials say you'll see a difference with just one night using the night cream. I thought yea sure I will, but I did. A plus is there are coupons for it in almost every Sunday paper. -
I hope the hematologist is able to figure things out for you. Let us know how things go at the visit.

ARCHIVED Short Stature Only Symptom
ravenwoodglass replied to Debra Baum's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes it is quite possible that you will see a significant increase in growth at that age. I have a freind whose nephew was diagnosed at about age 7 and he was very tiny for his age. He grew a number of inches the first year and as an adult is now about 6 feet. In my own family diagnosis didn't come until my son was almost 20 so for us the diet was too late... -
I can't answer about anything other than your B12. That seems to be quite low. Are you taking a sublingual B12? If you're not you should pick some up. I was very symptomatic when mine was that low and some doctors treat low B12 when it is under 500. It isn't going to hurt to supplement.

ARCHIVED New Symptom; Doctor Won't Test For Celiac
ravenwoodglass replied to Nancy19's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Nancy if you can't afford testing right now and it will be awhile till you can you can just do the diet. There are folks here that are 'self diagnosed' because their tests were a false negative or they went on the diet, felt better and didn't want to do a challenge. You don't need your doctors permission to be gluten free. -
ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Hair Sprays And Hair Products
ravenwoodglass replied to Evangeline's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't use hairspray but I do know that Dove, Garneir and Suave will clearly label gluten ingredients. I use mostly the Garneir products for skin and hair. I can't remember if I have ever seen a hairspray but I have used their gels. -
ARCHIVED Goodbye Gallbladder
ravenwoodglass replied to goodnews's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It can take a little while to feel better. When we produce antibodies to gluten it takes a bit for them to get out of our system. For myself I couldn't handle all the roughage in a salad for a couple of months. I did well cooked veggies and fruits at first. You mention the frittata was leftover, do make sure if you use nonstick cookware that it doesn't... -
ARCHIVED Positive Blood Test, Endoscopy Next Week
ravenwoodglass replied to Katrala's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes. If your having the endo wait till that is done. If your not just start the diet. -
ARCHIVED Desperately Needing Some Answers, Please!
ravenwoodglass replied to Noni's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Have you talked to the manager or owners of the stores near you? If you go in with specific brands some stores will see if they can get the stuff you need. It never hurts to ask. Something that I forgot to mention in my first reply was Thai Kitchen stuff. They make stuff like Pad Thai and noodle bowls that you just heat up and can add stuff to. I'll add... -
ARCHIVED Desperately Needing Some Answers, Please!
ravenwoodglass replied to Noni's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
1. Although Frito Lay has a long list of stuff that is gluten free most is produced in a shared facility and the risk of CC is high. If you go to their gluten free list they do state that at the very bottom. The only products of thiers that haven't given me off and on CCings are the plain chips and Fritos. 2. Yes Rice Krispies and the treats have gluten... -
ARCHIVED "but You Only Have 'borderline' Gluten Intolerance!"
ravenwoodglass replied to Pamela B.'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
((((((((((((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) Being a 'borderline gluten intolerant' person is kinda like being a 'little bit pregnant'. Your gut instincts have turned out to be correct. Sorry you are feeling so badly and I hope it passes soon. Sometimes we have to let our body tell us how sensitive we are before we really know. -
ARCHIVED Positive Blood Test, Endoscopy Next Week
ravenwoodglass replied to Katrala's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The choice to have the endo is yours to make. While some like to have one done to see if anything else is going on you do have the option of having one done later if you have issues that don't resolve. There are times when other things like ulcers and signs of reflux are due to the celiac and do resolve on their own after we have been gluten free. Some like... -
ARCHIVED Goodbye Gallbladder
ravenwoodglass replied to goodnews's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Glad to hear you are giving it a strict try. Do avoid dairy also for a bit as if gluten is an issue then the area that is damaged also produces the enzyme that helps us digest dairy. We can have some ups and downs at first and make sure you are taking the precautions you need to like seperate toasters, colanders, and at least for now avoid baking with gluten...
