ARCHIVED Billirubin Elevated Pre Diiagnosis?
ravenwoodglass replied to JSegura226's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Celiac can have impact on the liver. Can't say for sure but you might see those numbers come down after you have been gluten free for a while. -
ARCHIVED Coping Methods With Current Pains. Help
ravenwoodglass replied to jsimone's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome to the board. When I get glutened if I have stomach pain Pepto Bismal liquid helps with that pretty quickly. Other than that asprin if my fibro gets bad or joints are bothersome asprin will help a little bit. Other than that just hot baths and a hot water bottle for my tummy is all that really helps. I do not take anything for the D because I want... -
ARCHIVED New To Board/help With Inflammation
ravenwoodglass replied to pitt4321's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi Carol, welcome to the board. I had a great deal of muscle, joint and bone pain before I was diagnosed celiac and went on the diet. I just expected my gut issues to resolve and was pleasantly surprised when my arthritis and fibro went away. You may want to have a celiac panel run and then give the diet a good strict try. They can't do the blood test after... -
ARCHIVED Advice About My Gasroscopy Please....
ravenwoodglass replied to fozbery's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The truest test is that you were feeling better gluten free and now that you have added it back in you are really sick. No matter what the tests results are your body is clearly telling you it wants you to be gluten free. -
ARCHIVED The Easter Bunny Is Comming....
ravenwoodglass replied to Lisa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Great list and thanks for posting. I do want to mention that I picked up a package of Reese's pnut butter chocolate eggs yesterday and they do contain wheat flour. It was listed in the ingredients so make sure you double check since they did have one kind listed as gluten-free make sure you are getting the variety that is. -
ARCHIVED Goodbye Gallbladder
ravenwoodglass replied to goodnews's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Go ahead and give the diet a strict try. It won't do you any harm and you should do it anyway because of the high rate of false negatives. Hopefully your doctor did more than one biopsy but damage can be spotty and be missed. I do hope the surgery helps and that you are feeling better soon. -
ARCHIVED Diarrhea And Low Carb Diets...
ravenwoodglass replied to ciavyn's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You could try adding some sweet potatoes or yams into your diet. Lots of vit A and they have both insoluable and soluable fiber so they can help with both D and C. I also think it might be a good idea to eliminate soy for a bit and see if that helps. -
ARCHIVED Itemized Deductions For Celiacs
ravenwoodglass replied to plumbago's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yea it would be nice if we could deduct those, but we can't. -
ARCHIVED Itemized Deductions For Celiacs
ravenwoodglass replied to plumbago's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think the best person to ask about this is your tax professional. You would have to itemize and save all your reciepts. You also would only be able to deduct as a medical expense so if your overall medical expenses are not real high then you wouldn't get any deduction. -
ARCHIVED How Long To Eat Gluten For Accurate Blood Test
ravenwoodglass replied to KathrynL's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You really can not rule out celiac if the genes tested for are not one of the two most commonly associated celiac genes. You can still have celiac without either of them. With a positive blood test, relief from the diet and a reoccurance of symptoms when you start eating gluten again that is more diagnostic than the gene panel. It may take a few days before... -
ARCHIVED Alprazolam Made By Purepac
ravenwoodglass replied to nerdolicious's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you can't find one that carries the Mylan see if you can find one that carries Sandoz. That companies is for sure gluten free. -
ARCHIVED Grain Alcohol In Herbs/tinctures
ravenwoodglass replied to cutie2u222's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Some of us can tolerate distilled gluten grain alcohols, some of us can't. I am one who can't. I was made really ill by some tinctures I was given early on in my diagnosis. If they are something you can stop taking I would stop for a bit. After you have been gluten free for a bit and healed you could then try them one at a time and see if you tolerate. However... -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Else Get Terrible Upper Stomach Pain?
ravenwoodglass replied to asickdaddy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I mention this because it causes the same pain for me that gluten does, have you eliminated soy? Soy doesn't cause all the same symptoms for me that gluten does but it does cause that awful pain and it took me a really long time to finally figure it out. When you are able to go back to the gluten-free diet you may want to consider eliminating soy as well... -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Else Get Terrible Upper Stomach Pain?
ravenwoodglass replied to asickdaddy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yea I know the pain your talking about. It hurts so bad you can barely breathe or move. I did have one trip to the ER where they thought I was having a heart attack but in the end the GI Cocktail took care of it. What I take for it now, when I get glutened, is Pepto Bismal. That seems to coat stuff pretty quick and ends the pain. You could try that or you... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Know Alot About Soaps/cleaning Stuff
ravenwoodglass replied to Newtoitall's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Garneir, Dove, Suave will all list gluten clearly. I use all Garneir products for skin and hair. Shikai and Giovanni list well also if you like organic stuff. With cleaning products I wear gloves when cleaning with most products. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Try Celiact Multivitamin?
ravenwoodglass replied to Esch's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
After looking at the levels of the vitamins and comparing them to what I already take I realized I need more of some individual vitamins than they provide. So I would still need additional vitamins and for me just sticking with the ones I take was the more cost freindly option. -
ARCHIVED Advice About My Gasroscopy Please....
ravenwoodglass replied to fozbery's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
For some of us, myself included, I was always sick before diagnosis with colds and caught any virus or flu that was around. I think it was because my body was so taken up fighting gluten that it didn't have any reserves left to fight off anything else. I haven't been sick now in years so hopefully once you have been gluten free you will have the same effect... -
ARCHIVED Fatigue And Weakness
ravenwoodglass replied to GFreeMO's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sorry you in so much pain hopefully it will run it's course soon. I find plain asprin to help a bit with the muscle and bone pain. Sometimes sublingual B12 will help a bit with the fatigue. I also have taken Royal Jelly to help with the fatigue. Not something to take if you allergic to bees. Other than that hot showers and sleeping as much as I can seems... -
ARCHIVED Need Help For A Picky Eater
ravenwoodglass replied to zoogirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you have Gluten Free Pantry mixes where you are try their French Bread mix, the pizza crust recipe is on the box. I like thick crusts so I use one box for one crust although they do say to split the 'dough' onto two pans. It took a bit for me to get used to having to use a spatula to spread the dough, I oil the spatula to get it to spread easier. I... -
ARCHIVED Puttin In Work
ravenwoodglass replied to Junot's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Great to hear that you found a rice bread you like. If you do have soy sneak in again I have found liquid Pepto Bismal helps a lot with the pain quickly and usually with just one dose. Good for you figuring that out so quickly, it took me a couple years to realize I couldn't do soy. It is so great that we are having more and more people that are being diagnosed... -
ARCHIVED Testosterone Level
ravenwoodglass replied to JSegura226's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The mood issues may be from withdrawl and if they are they should pass fairly soon as long as you keep being strict. Although I am not a male I do know that celiac can mess with hormones, and we all have both testosterone and estrogen just differing levels depending on whether you are male or female. I also noticed my sex drive return after I had been gluten... -
ARCHIVED Coming To My Senses!
ravenwoodglass replied to Camp Laffalot's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Great to hear you starting to feel better. Although hard do try and keep the dairy to as little as you can if you can't cut it out completely. We also often crave stuff we shouldn't be eating so if you can drop it entirely for a month or two and see if it helps, or even more important how your body acts when you add it back in, that would give you a clearer... -
ARCHIVED Gi Doc Ran Labs..negatives And A Weak Positive
ravenwoodglass replied to odd1's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Glad your giving the diet a try. Be strict and give it at least a couple of months as sometimes the first month or so can be full of ups and downs. Go with as much whole unprocessed food as you can. Be sure to check all meds and supplements. -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Taken These Medications For Dh?
ravenwoodglass replied to eatmeat4good's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
DH will resolve on it's own with the diet. It can take some time for the antibodies to leave the skin which can be a good thing as when it flares you will know that some gluten is sneaking in. Personally I wouldn't use any med, just be superstrict with the diet. Some with DH will find that gluten grain alcohols and vinegars will cause a flare and a food log... -
ARCHIVED Would You Gluten Trial To Biopsy Dh And Get Diagnosis?
ravenwoodglass replied to CrunchyChristianMama's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Growing up with DH is awful, mine was misdiagnosed as 'poison ivy in my blood'. Just make sure that the derm that does the biopsy does it correctly. They do not biopsy the rash but the area beside it and do make sure that they are looking for DH specifically because the lab needs to do a special test for it. I don't know if just a couple days on gluten...
