Dogs and cats lick themselves, alot. So it may not have been doggy kisses it may be gluten that got on his hands from petting them after they had licked themselves. Or it could have been something else altogether. Did you eat the pizza and then kiss hubby? That would have been an even more likely way for him to have gotten glutened. That said sometimes we...

ARCHIVED No Disability, Can't Work...
ravenwoodglass replied to thleensd's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
With your education what about tutoring? Contact your local schools and see if they can send some students your way and stick an add in your local paper. Perhaps even add music lessons in there. Something that kept me off the dole for years was online selling. If you have a good eye for antiques or collectables or have some stuff lying around that you don... -
My arthritis is in total remission. It did take quite a long time, about 6 months or so and I had to be very strict. I would have flares that I thought were gluten related for a couple of years but then I realized I was reactiong to soy so I also had to give up soy for complete relief. Oddly enough when I get glutened my arthritis doesn't flare much but if...

ARCHIVED Am I Being Glutened Or Could It Be Something Else?
ravenwoodglass replied to HS7474's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The amount of calories you are going to get from a sugared gum are very low. If you must chew gum just go with the sugared. Also be sure to check and make sure the intant breakfast you are drinking is gluten free as not all of them are. -
ARCHIVED Scared Out Of My Mind
ravenwoodglass replied to Newtoitall's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I am so sorry you are going through all this. Please be aware that if you are not eating gluten your celiac tests with the GI doctor will be negative. That said if you are still having issues even after being gluten free until then it is a good idea to see one. If you want him to formally diagnose you celiac you do need to go back on gluten right away though... -
ARCHIVED Weird Cholesterol Levels
ravenwoodglass replied to DoogiePCT's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yea I had a doctor congratulate me for my really low numbers also. At the time I was eating mostly very fatty fried foods, lots of ice cream and butter etc. My cholesterol should have been through the roof. I also had lots of celiac symptoms at the time that were blown off as 'nerves'. If only doctors would look past the lab results and really listen to their... -
ARCHIVED I Thought I Was Allergic To Sulphates In Shampoo...but
ravenwoodglass replied to Noche22's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
The best approach with DH is avoiding gluten strictly and also iodine. If the doctor suggests dapsone do read on it throughly. It can have some nasty side effects. The diet and avoiding iodine will clear up DH nicely without meds but it does take some time for the antibodies to leave the skin so for awhile you may get flares when you get even small amounts... -
ARCHIVED Rectal Administration Of Vitamines?
ravenwoodglass replied to Seraphim-Gabe's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think he is undiagnosed and ate what he had and noticed his symptoms getting more severe. At least that is what I got from his orginal post but I could be wrong. -
ARCHIVED Progresso Soup
ravenwoodglass replied to celiacmom2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I would get ahold of the FDA now. There is no reason to wait and there could be other undeclared allergens in the mislabeled soup. If you throw it away there is no 'proof' that anything happened other than your word. IMHO that is why you were told to toss it. -
ARCHIVED Neck And Shoulder Pain About 50% Better!
ravenwoodglass replied to possiblyglutensensitive's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Celiac can give us inflammation that effects just about anyplace. It sounds like that inflammation is resolving for you. I don't think it is your imagination at all. I was severely ill and was very surprised how quickly the joint and muscle pain resolved. I hope your progress continues but do be aware we can have some ups and downs. -
I had RSD set in after a knee surgery prediagnosis. Luckily for me it was in the leg that had the most celiac related nerve damage so it wasn't extremely painful. It was really scarely though because I lost all the muscle in my leg from where they put the tourniquet down. I was sent to PT for a few months and it did for the most part resolve although even...

ARCHIVED Do I Really Have Celiac Disease Or Am I Gluten Intolerant?
ravenwoodglass replied to Mama Melissa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This is what I was thinking. Some doctors will even tell folks with positive blood work and celiac related changes to keep eating gluten and come back in a year to see if the villi are totally destroyed yet. No matter how sick they are from eating it. I would ignore the second doctor and just keep on the diet. If you need to see a GI in the future I would... -
ARCHIVED Still Sick!
ravenwoodglass replied to Jordan E's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Are you eating mostly whole unprocessed foods? If not you should try to as much as possible. Are you careful about CC and have you gotten a new toaster, colander and gotten new pans if your old ones are scratched? If not you need to. Most of us become much more sensitive to very tiny amounts of gluten after we go gluten free so even the little bit of residue... -
ARCHIVED Gene Testing Results
ravenwoodglass replied to MacieMay's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am one of those people and am firmly diagnosed celiac. I thankfully wasn't gene tested until 5 years after I was diagnosed. My DD after having both positive blood and biopsy and being diagnosed and doing better on the diet was told by another doctor who did gene testing that she could never become celiac and the blood and biopsy tests were wrong. They weren... -
ARCHIVED Rectal Administration Of Vitamines?
ravenwoodglass replied to Seraphim-Gabe's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you do decide to 'wild hunt' for produce or these types of things please make sure you know what you are picking and consuming. Some wild plants are protected and you don't need a huge fine if the wrong person sees you picking something. The pine needle tea is a good idea but be aware that some are poisonous so make sure you know very well what you are... -
ARCHIVED What If I Ignore It?
ravenwoodglass replied to Booseebean's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well if you ignore your diagnosis you could end up with a signature like mine or worse. Ignoring it increases your chances of developing cancer and could rob you of your brain. I was a long time to diagnosis and could barely walk or talk by the time I was diagnosed to say nothing of the daily agony of the constant D. The gluten free lifestyle does take some... -
ARCHIVED I'm Being Impatient, I Know I Am.
ravenwoodglass replied to DJ Jess's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Glad your feeling better. As to the omlette, any restaurant I worked at used the grill to make them as it is easier to fold them. Also some places add a bit of pancake batter to their eggs but they don't say that on the menu. You mentioned eating gluten free oats, not all of us tolerate them so it might be a good idea to drop those for a bit. If you really... -
ARCHIVED A Couple Of Days Of Disappointments
ravenwoodglass replied to Cheryl-C's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I go with Pocono Cream of Buckwheat, it has a creamy texture and very mild flavor compared with even their buckwheat 'kasha' which is more chunky and has a stronger flavor. Cream of Rice is okay also. -
ARCHIVED Rectal Administration Of Vitamines?
ravenwoodglass replied to Seraphim-Gabe's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree with the other poster. Taking them rectally isn't going to work as it is your small intestine that absorbs the nutrients. If you live near a Wegmans their daily should be safe and it is cheap. Other chains may have inexpensive multis that are safe also. As for food, beans and rice are cheap and nutritious. Frozen single ingredient veggies can be... -
ARCHIVED Those Who Are Reacting To Udi's Bread
ravenwoodglass replied to catarific's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I do fine with the white bread but the Multi grain is a no go because of the flax in it. Grateful for that as my Wegmans has their breads on sale this week for about $3.50. I will say it isn't very filling though I like the 'italian' bread type crust. -
ARCHIVED Food Intolerances - Sometimes Makes No Sense!
ravenwoodglass replied to catarific's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yea coconut seems to be an issue for me also. OP which UDI's bread did you try? Was it the whole grain or the white. For me the whole grain is out because of the flax in it. Neither may be the case for you. -
ARCHIVED Food Intolerances - Sometimes Makes No Sense!
ravenwoodglass replied to catarific's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Perhaps your intolerant to something else in the milk. Also you haven't been gluten free for very long. You may have had some gluten sneak in somewhere. Intolerances can have delayed reactions so look at what you may have eaten two or three days ago also. It is often a good idea to go with less processed stuff and more whole foods until we are fully healed... -
ARCHIVED I'm So Rumbly In My Tummy!
ravenwoodglass replied to Shashi's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It was definately a symptom for me. My tummy is much much quieter now. At this point for me it is the first sign I have been glutened but the D doesn't start till 2 or 3 days later, but that may not be the case for you. -
ARCHIVED Celiac And H. Pylori
ravenwoodglass replied to mlarson's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I don't know if the drug could have effected your endo results. I do know that there is a fairly high rate of false negatives with endos for various reasons. With positive blood work you need to be on the diet. Your doctor should have told you that. Since the diet is helping I would stick with it. I would not go back on gluten for more celiac testing as your...
