  1. It is best at first to go with as much whole unprocessed food as you can. Go light on the replacement items, perhaps a bread or cracker but for the most part just go with naturally gluten free food. You will heal more quickly and it will be easier to control your calories that way.
  2. Chances are the soda came from a 'speed bar' and it could have been CC'd or even not gluten free. Not all sodas are and the formulations in speed bars are different from the ones in a bottle or can. When out I always get a soda or another drink that the bar or restaurant has in a can or bottle to be absolutely safe.
  3. Quite a few of us react to soy as well as gluten. That and dairy are the most common other intolerances. You may or may not have an issue with soy. Not everyone does but if you keep having issues after you have been gluten free for a while then cut out soy and dairy and see if it helps.
  4. Were you eating gluten free when the blood tests were done? That insures a false negative. Even on a full gluten diet false negative rates are fairly high. That the diet was helping your symptoms is IMHO the best test there is. If your not going to have a biopsy go ahead and keep on the diet. You may find that eventually your fatigue and arthritic symptoms...
  5. I agree. Pacific foods has now come out with a tasty chocolate hemp milk which I will try in my coffee tommorrow morning. I drank a glass last night and it was good and do sometimes like a little flavoring in my coffee too.
  6. It sounds like you are healing well. Good and I hope it continues. Your doctor may have just thought you needed more fiber which is always IMHO best to get from food.
  7. Keep in mind that other intolerances are intolerances and not allergies so they won't show up in allergy tests. If she is still consuming dairy and soy I would suggest she drop those and then add them back in when she is feeling better. Add them in one at a time for at least a week and see if she reacts. Some good supplements won't hurt just make sure they...
  8. This actually works well with drywall compound but don't know if it would work with glue. It would be worth a try though with scraping afterward.
  9. No all of them are not gluten free. Have your doctor write on the orders for the test that you need gluten free solution. In my experience the gluten-free ones are thin, like water. I wish I could remember the name of the solution they used after I was diagnosed but perhaps someone else will know.
  10. I am sorry that this happened to you. I had to find out the hard way also so your not alone. One thing I would suggest is that drop cloths be put on the doorways of the room to try and keep dust down in the rest of the house. If you are going to help with clean up when they are done be sure to wear a mask and rubber gloves. I hope the job is done quickly...
  11. No it is not true that they will be able to find the antibodies if she is already gluten free. She would need to do a gluten challenge for a couple of months and then get retested for the antibodies, and even then they may be a false negative. People can have Chrons and Celiac both. People can also have other intolerances, dairy and soy being the most common...
  12. It sounds like your body has already given you the answer. There are quite a few of us here that are self diagnosed. I wish I had know about gluten as it would have saved me years of pain due to false negatives. The most vital thing you need to ask yourself is how much pain are you willing to go through to get a doctor derived diagnosis? You have now been...
  13. It is good that you are making your home gluten free. Your children need to be tested with a celiac panel by their doctor before you enforce the gluten free diet. Once they are gluten free any testing will be a false negative even if they are celiac. Celiac is strongly genetic and if they test negative this time around make sure the kids know to retest if...
  14. I agree. Think of it this way if the doctor found a 5mm cancerous lesion would you want to wait until it was 20mm before getting rid of it? We have 22 ft of small intestine and the damage can be spottly and easily missed. There are also some of us who have other organs, like the brain attacked full force before GI symptoms are more than a annoyance. Doctors...
  15. IMHO you are playing with fire by eating sourdough bread. Being sourdough does not mean it becomes gluten free.
  16. I agree with this. I have been glutened just as often by organic CC as by conventional foods.
  17. Celiac is autoimmune and genetic. It does usually require a triggering event such as a severe stress, physical or mental, or an illness. Celiac could perhaps be triggered by being made ill by a severe mold infection but but I don't think it would be caused by eating moldy bread a few times.
  18. They may of may not. The best way to find out is what you are doing, calling the company that makes them. If they are generic you need to call whenever you refill as companys can change binders at will. Some companies do have a not wheat starch policy and they will state so when you call. Since in some places wheat starch is considered gluten free it is a...
  19. Have you tried prune juice? If not give it a try. If you are literally not having a bowel movement how long has it been and how much pain are you in? If you are having small movements that is one thing but if your not passing anything you need to get that referral pronto as impaction can be a real problem.
  20. I was afraid of that. Fiber Con specifically states it should not be taken if you have D. I kind of assumed you had C since the doctor told you to take it. I would follow the makers advice. One food that is good for both C and D is sweet potatoes if you like them add them to your diet. It is likely that the bowel issues will resolve fairly quickly once you...
  21. I am glad you realize that no one really outgrows celiac. Thankfully doctors are now more aware of it. A lot of your continued problems are likely due to cross contamination as you have realized and hopefully things will improve now that you are in your own place and can be strictly gluten free. Since you haven't been diagnosed as an adult it is not in your...
  22. The best kind of B12 sublingual is the one that starts with methy rather than cyan in a lot of folks opinion. I take ones by Country Life but there are other good gluten free brands. I agree with the pathology report that you should be supplementing. Your doctor sounds like many of mine who was insistant that I was depressed and nothing was physically wrong...
  23. I haven't taken fiber con but figured you might want to see what the company says about it. Here is their fact sheet. Open Original Shared Link And for Levsin Open Original Shared Link
  24. First get a celiac panel or any other gluten related testing done, like the biopsy, if you choose to do any testing. Your regular doctor can order the celiac panel and be sure it includes your total IGA as well as the celiac tests. Then you may want to eliminate both the sugar, and the gluten for a bit. Eat whole unprocessed foods and when you are feeling...
  25. You are saying a wheat free diet, you should also be avoiding barley, rye and oats to be gluten free. I hope things improve soon for you but if they don't soon and you haven't seen a dermatologist they might be helpful.
