  1. Most doctors are clueless about celiac. If he is a good doctor in other respects you can try and educate him a bit.
  2. I am not a medical expert but yes I do think the comments are indicative of celiac. It appears your doctor does also.
  3. And keep aware that it may be fine many times and then you may end up getting glutened from it. There are good yogurts that are processed in facilities that don't have any CC risk. I tend to go with those as my reactions are severe.
  4. Some of us can tolerate certified gluten free oats but many can't. You could try and find out which group you are in by eating some certified gluten free oats a couple times a day for a week. If after that week you haven't reacted then the gluten-free oats are likely okay for your system. Most oats are cross contaminated by processing so make sure the one...
  5. You did the right thing IMHO by eliminating it. I am glad you are feeling better.
  6. Alli the symptoms you are describing happen to me when I get CC'd. You may have had a small amount of gluten slip in somewhere. Eating in restaurants is risky for us sometimes even if they have a gluten-free menu. Processed food is also risky at times. What is your diet typically like? Have you eliminated gluten from your personal care products like shampoos...
  7. If you are not going to persue a biopsy then go ahead and get on the diet, strictly. Chances are you won't need the acid reducer and once started those can be hard to get off of. Do delete dairy for a bit when first on the diet also.
  8. Your onset of symptoms and the symptoms are very familiar to me. Your B12 levels are really quite low so I hope you are supplementing with sublingual B12. After you are done testing I hope you will give the diet a shot no matter what the results.
  9. I hope your following your doctors advice. He appears to have recognized changes that are strongly suggestive of celiac. You don't have to wait until you go back for the biopsy results to get back on the diet.
  10. I know kids have a higher rate of false negatives with the blood work. I think how long it takes to go back to normal would depend on a lot of different things like how often the person was CC'd and how high the original tests were. Your regular ped should be able to order the panel so that you can have a printout of the results in hand when you see the ped...
  11. If you can find an allergist to help you out with the elimination diet it may help a bit. I never would have been able to do mine on my own. It can be a long process but in my experience it was months not years. The doctor will be able to give you a good starting point so you are getting the nutrition that you need and are consuming items that are the least...
  12. If there are company phone numbers on the bag call and ask if there are any gluten ingredients. Another thing you can do is go to the companies web site as many will have lists of their safe items.
  13. Yes. I get blood in my urine with either a glutening or soy. It is good that they are checking it out but if nothing is found and you are sure you haven't been glutened you may have an additional intolerance.
  14. It should be but keep in mind that he can still have a false negative. If he needs to be on the diet I don't think he will last that long though and if he doesn't it is very likely the results would be negative. How he feels and acts when you add gluten back in is IMHO a much better indication of whether he should be gluten free than the tests.
  15. If you are extremely sensitive you may want to have him change clothes. Chances are what you are already doing is fine and you could just continue and watch for a reaction.
  16. I think your wise to avoid dairy permanently if this is a common reaction for you. If DH ate the same cheese with no bad effects then it was likely IMHO that since you have been avoiding it that your body was telling you in no uncertain terms that it doesn't want you consuming dairy.
  17. False negatives in testing are common. What you need to do is to try the diet after all testing is done. The trial needs to be strict and is best done with whole unprocessed foods. Your in a good place to learn what you need to do while you are still going through the tests. After the testing is done try the diet, you don't have to wait for the test results...
  18. I would drop the garlic powder and go with fresh garlic. I find it odd in myself that I can eat fresh garlic just fine but the powder makes my stomach hurt every time.
  19. I hope you can get her to fully understand what the gluten free diet means. When we have neuro effects we need to be strict with the diet to have them resolve. It also takes more time than getting rid of just tummy issues. It sounds like she may have ataxia and things will only get worse if she doesn't adhere to the diet.
  20. I agree that you likely have food poisoning. Go to your regular doctor and get a stool sample taken to find out what bug may have gotten you and if it is still present. If it is a short course of antibiotics will be needed. Some of the bugs can be with you for quite a while if not treated so insist that a stool sample is done even if your doctor is reluctant...
  21. No you can not cheat on the gluten free diet as it will keep the autoimmune attack going. I had good and bad days for years before life became one constant sickness. Since you have gotten the biopsy you can go ahead and start on a trial of the diet. It is a good idea to also delete or restrict dairy at first. Go with as much of a whole food unprocessed diet...
  22. Yes you could still be celiac. The choice to biopsy is up to you but be aware that may come back a false negative also. If you are going to biopsy then stay on gluten until that is done. If your not going to biopsy then go ahead and get started on a strict trial of the diet. Your body know the answer.
  23. Thanks for the laughs folks. You guys are great and very imaginative.
  24. Make sure you ding that idiots stars and leave a neutral for the poor packing, no need to mention your allergy in the feedback. I can't believe that someone would ship items in a cereal box. I don't know what you bought other than the book but if you can do without the items if the seller allows refunds you could contact them before you leave feedback and...
  25. Yes you can be negative on blood tests and still be celiac. Plus if you are already gluten free that will in itself cause a negative because you aren't forming the antibodies that are being looked for. I would stick with the diet since you have had resolution of symptoms. A severe illness or stress, like your breakup, can cause hairloss and it usually takes...
