  1. Despite the fact it is distilled the Jack would have gotten me. You could also have gotten CC'd somewhere along the line. If your not having other gluten symptoms you could also have just gotten gassy from the onions and garlic. You may never know and if you don't have any of your other glutened symptoms I wouldn't worry about it. Sounds like it was a nice...
  2. Yes although it can also be a side effect of pepto bismal if you gave him that. I would get your doctors input if it happens again. If he is presently in a lot of pain or has a fever I would get him to the ER or into the doctors ASAP to be on the safe side.
  3. Usually home made beans require soaking overnight. Did he drain them in a colander that has been used for gluten pasta? That would be enough to contaminate the beans.
  4. Some of us do have delayed reactions D wise. 3 or 4 days is about the time it takes for the D to hit for me. Once you react, if you do, you may want to stop the challenge if the symptoms are severe. I do hope your reaction isn't too severe. I don't remember how long you have been gluten free but I think if it is less than a year that Enterolab may be able...
  5. I get more violently ill if I happen to consume a large amount but the length of time I am sick is the same. If you have to take immodium because you have to be out of the house that will stop the D but I avoid it as I want gluten out of my system and hesitate to take anything that will slow it's progress out of my body. I do find Pepto Bismal liquid to help...
  6. In a lot of theaters yes. One of my best finds since I started going out to movies again was that my local theaters popcorn was safe. Just went on a slow day and asked to see the ingredients of the flavored oil they use and they were happy to comply.
  7. If you have had any blood testing recently that was full testing, CBC etc and you were told to not eat after midnight then your doctor likely checked you blood sugar levels. That is usually done routinely when we have a physical. Keep in mind that when we are sick our blood sugars go up a bit also and that is normal. Mine does whenever I am glutened and I...
  8. Go with the stainless steel. Cast iron will absorb stuff. Get the best stainless you can afford and it will last a lifetime. I am still using the stuff my Mother-in-law gave me for my wedding. I just cleaned it real well after diagnosis and it has outlasted the marriage. I also use teflon coated pans for some stuff but I got new ones of those. For baking...
  9. It does take a very long time for the brain to repair. It has taken me literally years to get to the point I am at now so don't give up hope. Progess has been slow but steady but every glutening set me back. It is hard to be patient and I struggle still too when I get over tired. One thing that did help me a great deal was a Physical Therapist. They can be...
  10. Are you doing a gluten challenge? The oily looking stuff could be undigested fat or it could also be mucous. If your consuming something your body doesn't want it will sometimes produce excess mucous to try and protect itself.
  11. I am glad you got through everything okay. Keep in mind that any celiac testing will likely be negative if you have been gluten free. I hope the results of all the tests are good and that you are feeling better soon.
  12. Just make sure the prep they give you for the colonoscopy is gluten free, have your doctor write it on the script. Hopefully I will go well for you.
  13. I guess she slept through her nutrition classes. Wow I can't believe a nurse could be that clueless, scarey.
  14. I would say 'Yea it could be worse, I could be one of the celiac's diagnosed by autopsy' I must give credit to my current GI for that comment spoken when he found out how far advanced I got before I was diagnosed.
  15. You should be fine in the deli as for one thing you will be wearing gloves when your handling the food. A doctors note sure won't hurt to get the boss to listen.
  16. I just wanted to add a note on the gene testing. Although I am caucasian the double copies of the genes I carry are genes that are associated with celiac in the Far and Middle East. If you chose to do gene testing make sure they are not just looking for DQ2 or DQ8 as she may not have either of those. Her symptoms sound similiar to the ones I had as a child...
  17. I agree you are already diagnosed. Make sure your PCP does vitamin and minerals levels and you can get another celiac panel done in 6 months or so to see if your antibodies are going down. You should also get a scan for osteoporosis, although this test is primarily done on women men with celiac are at risk for bone loss also. If you do show signs of osteoporosis...
  18. In my case the arthritis and IBS along with a lot of other stuff was connected. My arthritis has been in total remission now since a few months after diagnosis. After you are done with testing do give the diet a good strict try for a few months even if the results are negative. My IBS symptoms resolved fairly quickly but the arthritis took a bit longer to...
  19. Not all of the barium solutions are gluten free your doctor needs to write gluten free on the orders. I was made very ill by some of them and because I have DH the doctors will not allow me to have the radioactive iodine. The solutions I have had since diagnosed are the consistancy of water rather than the thick milkshake consistancy of the ones I had before...
  20. I wonder if that is what they are seeing when the MRI's show the UBO's that were found on my MRI before diagnosis. I know if some countries those lesions are diagnostic of celiac, but my neuro is clueless. I would love to have another MRI to see if those lesions are still present since most of my neuro symptoms are gone. If I ever move near to a research...
  21. I wonder about that also. I am another one who had all my symptoms go into remission while preggers, although I did have nasty morning sickness with my second. They came back with a vengence after pregnancy though. I wonder if the same mechanism that keeps us from recognizing the fetus as a 'foreign body' keeps the celiac symptoms at bay.
  22. I love pizza and have it about once a week. I get Kinnickinnick pizza crusts at a package of 4 for about 9 bucks. I add my own cheese and whatever toppings I want. The crusts are nice and much like the crusts I remember from my gluten days. If I am feeling like taking the time and want an awesome deep dish I get Gluten Free Pantry's French Bread mix and follow...
  23. Hope you figure it out soon. Just had to add a note that I think that your little furry freind is adorable. Love those soulful eyes.
  24. Don't get down on yourself. There is nothing to apologize for. There is a greiving process that many of us go through when we are struggling with this diet in the beginning. You have a right to be angry and to be sad also. You'll get through it in time and you are in a great place to vent those feelings.
  25. Sounds like you have a solid plan. Is there a possiblity the sore throat might not even be related to the boost at all? I have had one for weeks from sleeping with the fan on me everynight with it blowing allergens at me. Could you have maybe caught a cold or have allergies that are acting up?
