Yes it is the pink liquid. I have heard of gaviscon but never used it. -
ARCHIVED I Need A Little Help! Thank You!
ravenwoodglass replied to brett31em's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, it can even vary in intensity for the same person over time. Mine was really bad and covered large areas as a child but in later years it was often much milder. Now when I get glutened I only get one or two little bumps. -
ARCHIVED Acid/heartburn
ravenwoodglass replied to dragon's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Have you tried Pepto Bismal liquid? For me it works fast and I usually only need one dose. If you end up taking it frequently during your challenge, or while you still eating gluten before your test, do be aware that it can make the stool very dark. -
ARCHIVED Where Do I Find Gluten Free Toothpaste?
ravenwoodglass replied to Rdv22222's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I use Tom's of Maine toothpaste and when I use mouthwash I get one that is alcohol free. Arm and Hammer Free and Clear is my choice for detergent and fabric softener. For skin and hair care I like the Garneir line, they will clearly label gluten ingredients. Dove and Suave are also good about labeling. -

If they make these in the same plant that they make the other products I wouldn't touch as IMHO the CC risk would be high. If you need more fiber can you slowly add more fruits and veggies to your diet instead of going with a fiber supplement? Metamucil Wafers Ingredients Apple Wafers: Wheat Flour, Corn Oil, Sucrose, Psyllium Husk, Fructose, Oat Hull...

ARCHIVED New Celiac Infant
ravenwoodglass replied to a-adamson's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That is a pretty good pasta. One thing I have found with the gluten-free pastas is that I need to check if they are done starting at about half the cooking time on the box. For me they cook much faster than the box states and if I let them go the full time they turn to mush. Thai Kitchen also makes a good rice noodle, they make an angel hair size, my favorite... -
ARCHIVED I Need A Little Help! Thank You!
ravenwoodglass replied to brett31em's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The rashes you are describing on the inside of your elbows sound like DH. That would be a common place for it. I would get it there and also on the backs of my knees for years. A home test for DH is to get some topical iodine solution, like the stuff you would put on a wound, put it on your skin near where you usually get the rash and cover it with a bandaid... -
ARCHIVED Shampoo And Conditioner
ravenwoodglass replied to ksymonds84's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Then why do we have to injest 4 slices of bread a day for a period 2 to 3 months to have even a remote chance of accurate blood test or biopsy? With your thinking couldn't we just eat a 1/4 teaspoon before testing? What about those of us who react to CC from just a crumb in butter? If at least 1/4 teaspoon is needed to be injested why do medical professionals... -
ARCHIVED Modified Corn Starch
ravenwoodglass replied to Cheryl-C's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Modified corn starch is gluten free however you can get just as much benefit from the probiotic action of a yogurt with many less added ingredients. Yoplait yogurt is for sure gluten free and will give you the same benefits. In general I tend to go for stuff with less 'iffy' ingredients and ingredient lists with the least amount of additives. -
No those tests do not firmly rule out celiac. For one thing a comple panel was not run and for another even with a full panel false negatives are not uncommon. Your symptoms do suggest celiac or gluten intolerance. You may want to see if your doctor will do an endoscopy with biopsies to check your villi, but even then false negatives are not uncommon. After...

Also look back at anything that might have changed in the last week. Have you tried a new lotion, shampoos or gone out to eat someplace? Are you doing any new craft projects or home remodeling? Could you have picked up a virus or perhaps eaten something that gave you food poisoning? I don't know where you are from but there have been some eggs recalled for...

ARCHIVED Got A Copy Of My Blood Test- Can Someone Please Help?
ravenwoodglass replied to SaraKat's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Just make sure you don't go gluten free until after you have the endo. There is a fairly high rate of false negatives even on a full gluten diet. If you go gluten free or gluten light before the test you will be very likely to have a false negative. -
Me too. I didn't do soy milk but ate a lot of stuff with soy after I was diagnosed. It took me a while to figure it out also.

ARCHIVED What Does Gluten Free Mean?
ravenwoodglass replied to discodiver's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Something that is gluten free is going to be wheat free but something that is wheat free may not be gluten free. Gluten is in wheat, rye, barley and some of us react to oats. Many 'wheat free' items still contain another gluten source. The PF Changs could have been CC'd or something in it may have just been too much for your system if you are still healing... -
ARCHIVED *sigh* Went To The Gi, More Confused Than Ever
ravenwoodglass replied to Aphreal's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Why isn't she doing an endoscopy at the same time as the colonoscopy? Sounds like she doesn't even want to consider celiac in my opinion. -
ARCHIVED Bipolar Disorder & Adhd
ravenwoodglass replied to nikelodeon79's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
You may find you get some relief from both once you have been on the diet for a while. If you are on medications make sure you stay in touch with the prescribing doctor as with time your dose may need to be adjusted. Some of us have had great relief from these issues once we have been gluten free for a few months others will still struggle with them. It depends... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Immune To Poisin Oak/ivy?
ravenwoodglass replied to rdunbar's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Did the rash show up right after you got glutened? PI and DH do look similiar sometimes. PI will often, but not always, be in a line from where the edge of a leaf brushed against you. PI usually runs it course in about 10 days, DH can take a bit longer to clear up especially if you get reglutened or use iodized salt. -
ARCHIVED My Neuropathic Pain Has Disappeared!
ravenwoodglass replied to lucia's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
i have been taking 1000 mg subl. MB12 for months but it doesn't seem to help...maybe I need more? I do get a B12 shot once a month that seems to help my burning tongue somewhat... any and all advice for neuro pain is greatly appreciated! Thanks so much! With the B12 shots and the sublinguals I wouldn't increase the dose without asking your doctor first... -
ARCHIVED Trader Joe's Rice Milk
ravenwoodglass replied to nmlove's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't think all the EnviroKidz cereals are gluten free, have you called to see if the gluten-free ones are made in a dedicated plant. Perhaps a CC issue or are you using ones that have oats? Not all of us tolerate oats. -
ARCHIVED My Neuropathic Pain Has Disappeared!
ravenwoodglass replied to lucia's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I found acupuncture to be helpful also. It is definately worth a try. Also try some sublingual B12, that helped me even before I was at last diagnosed and gltuen free. -
ARCHIVED Elimination Diet - Feel Like Crap!
ravenwoodglass replied to JenniferLynn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Are you taking anything for the headaches or were you taking something and then stopped when you started the elimination diet? If you were regularly taking something for them and then stopped suddenly you could be experiencing rebound headaches. If you are presently taking something script or over the counter make sure by calling the maker that it is gluten... -
ARCHIVED Had Appt With Gi Dr Today And Confused About Something He Said
ravenwoodglass replied to SaraKat's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
While we are born with the genetic predisposition to develop celiac it can hit at any age. Usually there is a triggering event, in women that can be childbirth it can also be a severe emotional, physical stress or an illness. Some of us with the genes never develop it. Since you have been symptomatic for a year chances are that you developed it a year ago... -
