ARCHIVED Bleeding Toddler And A 2 Month Wait To See Gi?
ravenwoodglass replied to brendab's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
2 MONTHS!!!!!!!! I would be freaking out also. I would call the office and ask to be put on the cancellation list. That way if someone calls at 9 am and says they can't make their appointment you can slide in. This of course only will work if your GI is close enough. If you should find any fresh blood in his diaper, as in not with a bowel movement or if the... -
ARCHIVED Cramps With Campbell Soup?
ravenwoodglass replied to crampy girl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I only looked in the US link as I misunderstood what Lisa meant. Too bad they can't do the same in the US. It would be nice to just open up a can of soup once in a while. If I ever get a passport I'll make the drive to visit since I am close to Canada and bring home a casefull of soup. Wonder if border patrol would hassle me. -
ARCHIVED I Really Need Some Level-Headed Advice...

I know, I have one in my own family. It's hard to watch someone you love hurting themselves but there really isn't anything we can do. -
ARCHIVED I Really Need Some Level-Headed Advice...

Another thing that may factor in is the addiction aspect. For many of us there is a very real addiction to gluten. I know this doesn't excuse her selfdestructive behavior but it may help you to understand. She may be so addicted that she just can't imagine not eating gluten and has no strength to 'just say no'. -

ARCHIVED Nighttime "accidents"
ravenwoodglass replied to WVSweetie Pie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You may just be becoming more sensitive. But can you ask you doctor to switch you to meds that you can check on? Generics can change the binders whenever they choose and a med that was safe at last script may not be now. I am on a prescrition generic and my druggest checks at each refill. When the doctor finds a med that is for sure safe make sure they write... -
Good for you. I am glad the experience was good. I always get the General Pso (sp?) chicken and the green beans with garlic. Yum. I wish they had one closer to me as it is a 45 minute drive but well worth it.

ARCHIVED Adhesive To Reglue Crown - May Be Dumb Question
ravenwoodglass replied to suzyq63's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Some dentists are more educated than others as far as celiac. Hard to believe that in some countries they are the first to suspect celiac because of the damage to enamel. Here doctors will blame it on sodas and acid foods. Anyway call the office and ask them to check. Repeat that request to make sure they did when you get there. I have learned that many... -
ARCHIVED Inhaling Gluten?
ravenwoodglass replied to Coolclimates's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
No it would not be a good idea to work in a bakery. Even with a mask flour is going to get onto your clothes, hair etc. Unless you have very good OSHA approved mask, and those are very uncomfortable, you are still going to have particles that sneak around it. I know times are hard right now but I would look for a different position. Another option if you... -
ARCHIVED Need A Soy And Gluten Free Lipstick
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I went out and got a Estee Lauder one yesterday since noplace local sells the Lancome. The only questionable item is the tocepherol but I will call them today before I use it. Love the color and am hoping the 't' is not soy derived but since my soy issues are not as severe as gluten ones I may try it even if it is. I also went to the Everyday Minerals site... -
ARCHIVED I Need To Stop Reading
ravenwoodglass replied to adab8ca's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your neuro was flat out wrong. I did have severe GI symptoms when I was finally diagnosed and those went away pretty quickly. The neuro related stuff I was told by many doctors that it had nothing to do with gluten. So I had no expectation that those would ever resolve or that my arthritis would 'go away'. The only one who gave me any hint that they would... -
ARCHIVED I Really Need Some Level-Headed Advice...
ravenwoodglass replied to badsharkmovie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well I am in your situtation only it is reversed. I was very ill and was also diagnosed in 2002. 6 months later both my then older teens were diagnosed. Both followed the diet for a few years but then decided they didn't need it. My DD especially is having severe impact neuro wise and she is so thin that I really worry about her. My DS is also having impact... -
ARCHIVED Beef Boullion Brands That Are Okay
ravenwoodglass replied to MelindaLee's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Brown the beef first for color and add some whole onions, carrots and a celery stalk add a few fresh herbs for flavor. After you strain it pick out the little bits of beef and take some of the stock and some fresh or single ingredient frozen veggies and you have supper for that night, soup for lunch the next day and stock for the freezer for a later time... -
Yep. Gluten sure does make us old before our time. I'm 54 and feel the 'youngest' now that I have since I was a child. All those things I had to stop doing like dancing, bike riding and long walks by the lake are now once again a part of life. It does take a while to heal though so be patient with your body. We didn't get sick overnight (though for some it...

ARCHIVED Birthday Cake Drama
ravenwoodglass replied to crimsonviolet's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree with both statements. When you visit the next time tell them you will bring dessert. Then bring a lovely gluten-free cake with a whipped cream and fresh strawberries on the top. That way the kids won't be disappointed and perhaps they might even taste it and discover that gluten-free doesn't always mean cardboard. -
ARCHIVED Help Understanding Celiac Panel Results For 1Yr Old Daughter
ravenwoodglass replied to JamieCarin's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The effort will be so worth the trouble when the kids are growing and thriving again. You might want to consider making the whole house gluten free. Many of us are thought to be lactose intolerant when it is really gluten we have an issue with. The same area damaged by gluten is the area that produces the enzyme that helps us to digest dairy. Once the intestines... -
ARCHIVED Need A Soy And Gluten Free Lipstick
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks a bunch. -
From what I have seen on the board I don't think it is unusual to have both. Sweeeet, if your doctor was going off your blood work to tell you that you definately don't have celiac you need to keep in mind that false negatives on blood work are not uncommon. Hopefully someone who has the candida issue will reply soon and be a bit more helpful.

ARCHIVED Need A Soy And Gluten Free Lipstick
ravenwoodglass posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I will be going to my DD's wedding soon and am all set with all makeup except for lipstick. I never wear it in my everyday life so I have no idea what is safe or not. I would prefer something I can pick up at a dept store or my local drugstore if that is possible. Anyone have any safe suggestions? -
ARCHIVED Have You Found Eco Planet Oatmeal To Be Safe?
ravenwoodglass replied to TrickyMama's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Have you tried calling the company and asking about this? They may know. Keep in mind that some of us do react to oats even if they are grown and processed in dedicated facilities. If you want a hot morning cereal have you tried cream of buckwheat? Pocono buckwheat is grown and processed in dedicated facilities and fields. They also make a Kasha texture... -
ARCHIVED Red Blood This Morning, Went To The Ped.
ravenwoodglass replied to brendab's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would either bring any records that you have for him or sign releases to have them transferred. You never know what may be significant. I think nowadays they do the transfers electronically so perhaps you can sign the releases as soon as you have appointments scheduled so the new doctor can go over them when he is first seen. I hope they get him in soon... -
ARCHIVED Terrible Stomach Pain
ravenwoodglass replied to Rdv22222's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
For me it was a sometimes pain prediagnosis. The first time I had it really bad my family rushed me to the ER thinking I was having a heart attack. I still get it if I get a lot of gluten or soy but that hasn't happened in a long time. -
ARCHIVED Whole Body Inflammation
ravenwoodglass replied to aderifield's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yep that was the case for me. I went from a size 14 to a 4 within a month and even lost a shoe size. Since my fluid retention was pretty spread out over my whole body it was never really noticed by my doctors. They did notice my bloated belly but just told me to excercise as I was 'out of shape'. -
ARCHIVED Low B12, Tinea Veriscolor, Gluten Problems?
ravenwoodglass replied to hazelbrown10's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Only you can make the choice to gluten yourself for testing. You would need to go back to a full gluten diet for 2 to 3 months for testing. If you see a recurrance of your issues when you add gluten back in then you really have your answer, IMHO. You still may have a false negative result on the testing even after the challenge. While once we have one autoimmune...
