  1. You should give the diet a shot even though your celiac panel was negative. False negatives are not uncommon. Also be sure to follow up on the thyroid issue.
  2. If you are going with an injection that would need to be ordered by your doctor or given in his office. Do NOT just order it off some site on the internet. Have you tried the sublinguals? I chose those and they seemed to help a great deal. I get Country Life brand at my local health food store but they may be available on line from the company or available...
  3. For me the depression just lifted one day and now the only time it comes back is when I get glutened. I wish I could say the same for the anxiety. Many do have their anxiety get better so don't lose hope. You haven't been gluten free for very long and there is a lot to learn about cross contamination and deglutening your home and the like. Hopefully things...
  4. We are here, we hear you, go ahead and scream. The fear that can come with this disease and strong gluten reactions can be so isolating. I know I have been there and am still struggling myself even after 8 years. Talking to a counselor has been helpful for me. You may want to see if you can link up with one. They can't make everything go away but perhaps...
  5. Glad to hear your feeling better and congrats on the weight gain. Soon you'll be filling your clothes out nicely. As to the dairy, when you add it back go with hard cheeses like cheddar and yogurt at first. You may want to wait a bit longer though. Sometimes the things we crave the most are the things we need to stay away from. Love that line about the...
  6. I agree that it sounds like you are in the right place. There can be ups and downs at first as we heal. You've gotten some great advice in the previous posts. I hope you continue to improve and welcome to the board.
  7. First off thank you for your service. Our Military men and women are one of the countries most valuable assests. IMHO they should be treated better than it sounds like you were. I am glad to hear that the diet is helping with many of the issues. As a recovering agoraphobic with PTSD myself I know how hard a road that is to walk. We can heal a lot though...
  8. Are you taking any meds? If you are please check with the maker to be sure they are gluten free. Also although some think it doesn't matter do check your toiletries and personal care products as there are more who do react than don't. Do you have pets? If you do make sure those are eating gluten free also. I had a bird for a couple of years and did eventually...
  9. Ahbee, keep the faith. I had severe cognitive impairment and even had trouble talking let alone walking and also lost the ability to even read. I couldn't remember what I read from sentence to sentence. It has been 8 years now since diagnosis but I recovered to the extent that I am now back in college at the ripe old age of 54 and getting A's and B's. I will...
  10. Hi and welcome to the board. How long have you been gluten free? Are you still having gluten symptoms? It sounds like you have found what works for your hypo issues. If you haven't been gluten free for very long you may find that as time go by some of your other food allergies resolve a bit. Have you tried making your own yogurt? It might be something that...
  11. He actually may be symptomatic, the failure to grow and the ADHD can both be the result of undiagnosed celiac. False positives on blood work are basically unheard of but false negatives are common. Keep him on gluten until after the biopsy is done. The day the biopsy is done take him gluten free. You are in a great place to learn what you need to do to transition...
  12. For me the amount doesn't matter as far as the time frame goes but if I get a lot, which I haven't in a long time thank goodness, the first couple days are more violent illness. Once my antibodies get activated the symptom cascade is the same. The reaction may differ from person to person though. Some only get sick for a day or two, others like myself suffer...
  13. I used apple cider vinegar for years for a rinse. Put about a quarter cup in a one cup measure and fill the rest with water. It's all I used as a child cause Mom used bar soap on our hair and she liked it cause it removed all the soap residue. Leaves the hair nice and shiney and doesn't leave a vinegary smell like you might think it would.
  14. You may want to drop the dairy for a bit and see if it helps. You might also call the maker and see if they make wheat products there also to see if there was a chance of CC.
  15. Thanks for the kind words. Patience came with being so sick for so long. Being here makes it seem like all the suffering had a purpose and helps me see that I was not at all alone all those years. I just wish it hadn't taken me 2 years after diagnosis to find everyone here as it would have made the first year so much easier.
  16. What are you eating? Are you eating whole unprocessed foods? If not then you should consider doing so to help speed your healing. Are you being careful about CC, gotten a new dedicated toaster, new strainer for pastas, new cutting boards and replaced wooden utensils? Are you baking gluten foods for others? Flour can hang out in the air for up to a day and...
  17. Black tarry stools can be a sign of bleeding in the GI tract. Is his stool still black? If it is please get him in to the doctor along with a stool sample. If it was just that one time and it has resolved just ask your doctor for input at his next appointment. Causes of Black Stool Open Original Shared Link A black stool caused by food, supplements...
  18. Yes I would trust that response.
  19. I would suggest getting up earlier. Since you know the time frame when you are going to have to go that can help. It may take some getting used to since you need to go to sleep earlier also but that would be better than risking an 'accident' on your way to work. It does take some time to heal but hopefully soon you will stop having D. Make sure you are...
  20. Have they ruled out Lupus? Are you on any meds that cause sunsensitivity?
  21. If wishes were horses there would sure be a lot of doctors riding and looking for the closest bathroom. So many doctors seem to lose their empathy once they get their degrees. If they had any to begin with.
  22. Yes celiac can affect the liver enzymes. You are not doing yourself any favors by not following the diet strictly. I realize it isn't easy, especially if you are on your own as cooking for one isn't a lot of fun. I am in that boat myself. There are quick and gluten free meals that are easy to fix. I rely on Dinty Moore Beef stew and Jimmy Dean skillet dinners...
  23. You will get there. Every slip up you make is showing you more strongly that you need to be strict. For some of us there is an addictive factor to gluten and it can take a while to get past that. There is also a bit of withdrawl for many which can make us feel out of sorts and moody which can lead to 'risky behavior'. If you slip up you slip up, don't beat...
  24. GRRRRRRRR!!!!!!! While everything is still fresh in your mind take a deep breath and write down what happened at that appointment. Send a copy to the head of the hospital and send a copy to your regular doctor. Write this letter calmly even though right now I am sure you want to deck that doctor. Your experience is not unusual. There are many clueless...
