  1. Does that fish oil contain soy? I have found many do and I can't take them because of that. If you have a soy intolerance perhaps your elimination of it factors into the increased hunger like when you quit the wheat and dairy.
  2. Have you eliminated dairy? We often need to until we heal. What are you eating? It is best to go with whole naturally gluten free foods at first. It can take some time to heal but gut issues should be improving at least a bit by now. Have you made sure your home is as gluten safe as possible? New toaster, replacing colander, not sharing condiments etc? Have...
  3. Most doctors will wait at least 6 months to retest. Since I didn't show up in blood work retesting with panels is useless for me. My GI wanted to do an endo at that 6 month point also. Since I was doing great I skipped it but did have the endo done when I had my routine colonoscopy a few years later.
  4. Hopefully one thing the doctor tested for with all the blood work was celiac, do call the office and make sure that was done. Some doctors don't realize that you will have a false negative on blood tests if you are already gluten free and will try to test after you come back telling them the diet is helping. That will make a for sure negative on the celiac...
  5. Have you talked to your doctor about the possibility of getting temporary disability? That should be your first step and then go in to the SSI office and talk to them. You may qualify but if you don't try talking to Social Services and see if you can get some help from them. You may be able to get some help with foodstamps etc until you are able to go back...
  6. In this link was this note "Vitamin B12 supplementation and chronic myeloid leukemia represent less than 5% of all hypervitaminemia. There is no correlation between the level of cobalamin blood level and the number of underlying diseases for each patients." I do agree that we should get our vitamins from food but in the early stages of healing vitamin...
  7. It is not unusual for women to have celiac triggered by childbirth. Hopefully the blood tests will give you a good answer but false negatives are not uncommon. After you are done with testing do give the diet a good strict try. Resolution of your issues off gluten combined with the endo results would IMHO be pretty diagnostic even if the bloodwork is negative...
  8. Yes it could be related to gluten. It could also be related to other issues but hopefully your doctor has tested for those issues. Can you call your doctors office and see if they did a celiac panel on you? If they didn't you might want to pick up a lab slip and get those tests done. Do it ASAP because once you have been gluten free those tests will show...
  9. I have to wonder if the drooping eyelid, ptosis, might be a pretty common thing with those of us that have neuro impact. It is one of those things that I have even seen in my own family members and myself before diagnosis. My right eyelid before diagnosis would at times droop so much it obscured my vision. I have also noticed this in others who I have talked...
  10. Glad your feeling a little better. It can take a little while for the psychological effects to go away. Hang in there. Betty Crocker has come out with some gluten free mixes you can check out also.
  11. Yes!!!! Great news!
  12. Your first step should be to go to the doctor and ask for a full celiac panel with a total IGA. If your blood work is positive your doctor may want you to have an endo to confirm celiac. If you go gluten free before testing you will show up a false negative in testing. Even on gluten there is a risk of 20% for a false negative. After you have had all the...
  13. I don't have any research on it but I do know I react to both. And with soy it is both an allergy and an intolerance. While being intolerant to one doesn't automatically make you intolerant to the other I think there are quite a few on the board who have intolerances to both and to other stuff like nightshades.
  14. There are some companies that can be trusted. I only take one script but as I am very sensitive I do have it checked each time I refill because it is a generic. I do agree it is best to call the company directly as with generics as binders can change. With name brand drugs as long as it is under patent the ingredients including binders will stay the same...
  15. They may be gluten free by ingredients but many of us have had CC issues with Lay's products. The only product they make that I will eat is plain chips. Lays does make Stacks which are made on dedicated lines. I can't eat them because of soy but if he is okay with soy I would go with those over the Doritos.
  16. Since he is going gluten free those would not be options for him. Good idea if he wasn't though.
  17. Do the trial but when you do the gluten challenge add it back in three times a day for a week. Sometimes our reactions are delayed. When you react stop the challenge and go back to being gluten free. Be super strict during the month off gluten going with whole unprocessed foods.
  18. I'm a react to a crumb person. It might be a good idea to be as strict as you possibly can for a bit at first. Once you have healed you will have a better idea of how careful you need to be. One thing to keep in mind is that even if you do turn out to be someone who seems to tolerate stuff like a doughnut once in a while or a beer on the weekend you are still...
  19. This was the post I was actually replying to in my last post. Sorry if my answer seemed confusing. If you are new to the diet it also might be helpful to wait for a month or so at least to try some of the replacement foods. Some of the breads are really awful but some are okay and some are really good. Grainless Baker and Kinnickinnick are brands I like...
  20. Some companies that sell gluten free stuff ship. Kinnickinnick is one and they make good pizza shells and okay bagels and doughnuts and much more. Make sure you check the store on line here at Celiac.com also. Scope out if there is a health food store near you, call and ask what they have. There is lots of food that is safe for us. Fresh meats, chicken, fish...
  21. I wish mine had. I suffered for over 40 years before we knew what it was. Even after 8 years gluten-free I still have some scars. You were very fortunate.
  22. Yep, stay strictly gluten free and avoid iodine. Make sure you check you toiletries, makeup, shampoos etc. You can add iodine back in after you heal a bit. I found cold compresses to help with the itching, stuff like calamine lotion made things worse. Some of the topicals that help with the itching from poison ivy and bug bites might help but make sure they...
  23. If you have already been diagnosed celiac then I would say yes. If not then the derm needs to biopsy the area next to the lesions to find it. Make sure they are looking for DH.
  24. There is a lot of natually gluten free food. For snacks most Delmonte, if not all, fruit cups and snacks. Raisens, nuts, fresh fruit some candy like Jelly Belly jelly beans, DARK Milky Way bars, and a lot more. Many meals can be made naturally gluten free like chili, rice and beans, chicken breast, fresh meats and fish. Some prepared items like Dinty Moore...
  25. Early on in the disease course yes. If your body is not absorbing nutrients it can try to counter that by signaling you that you want more food.
