ARCHIVED Wine Gluten Free?
ravenwoodglass replied to ToriMartin's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There are the rare celiacs like myself who do react to distilled gluten grains. I get the same reaction as I do from a gluten food including a DH outbreak. Folks should wait until the are completely healed, IMHO, before adding those in. Then a challenge, as with any food, will tell the person if they react. -
ARCHIVED "But You Can Eat Whole Wheat, Right?"
ravenwoodglass replied to earthtoneNJ's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
After the description of the aforementioned person I think that is a perfect response. -
ARCHIVED Hubby Has Crossed Over To The Dark Side
ravenwoodglass replied to crimsonviolet's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yea if he is eating mostly gluten free he is doing little mini challenges everytime he eats gluten. Those challenges seem to be positive. Hopefully he will stick with the diet but if he is going to be tested make sure he knows that on a low gluten diet his chances of a false negative are really high. -
I get much better results from calling makers rather than emailing. Here is the number for Sandoz 1-800-526-8747 Perhaps they have the info you need as they should know about all the meds sold under their name or perhaps they can give you a phone number for the other company.

ARCHIVED 9 Months Gluten Free...still Having Issues
ravenwoodglass replied to JennQ's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It is not uncommon for doctors to be clueless when it comes to gluten issues. Your not alone in your struggles though, you have us. -
ARCHIVED Wine Gluten Free?
ravenwoodglass replied to ToriMartin's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Most wine is gluten free. Wine Coolers that are sold in the US are not though. If you read the bottles they are malt beverages. I make my own wine coolers with an inexpensive wine and 7up. You may be too early on in healing to handle alcohol. You could also have been glutened by something else. If you were with others and there was a plate of wheat based... -
ARCHIVED No HFCS Pepsi Products
ravenwoodglass replied to kareng's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Folks that really like the idea and taste of Pepsi with sugar not HFCS should contact them. The bottles are marked 'limited time only' so it would be nice if we can deluge them with requests to keep it and they listen. -
ARCHIVED 9 Months Gluten Free...still Having Issues
ravenwoodglass replied to JennQ's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
How much soy and dairy do you consume? Those can cause issues for many of us. What is your diet typically like? As time goes by some of us are more sensitive to cross contamination present in many processed foods or CC in our households from gluten eaters that live with us. Non food items can also be an issue, have you eliminated gluten ingredients from your... -
ARCHIVED Weight Loss With Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to adab8ca's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes you could be losing weight even without noticeable GI symptoms. Some people also have GI symptoms but don't realize it until they are gone. My constantily rumbling tummy since early childhood and gas are one example. You have a good neuro to order these tests. With them being positive please do give the diet a good strict try after the biopsy. You don... -
ARCHIVED Stomach Burning When Using gluten-free Replacements...
ravenwoodglass replied to tweeks2010's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had some issues with some of the gluten free baked goods and eventually realized the one ingredient that they had in common was soy. I eliminated that and things improved. Oh and lupine flour is another that gives me issues. That was in some of the European stuff I used to eat. -
ARCHIVED Sun-Rype Fruit Source
ravenwoodglass replied to Cheryl-C's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think there is a possibility of CC with those according to their website. Open Original Shared Link "Only Sun-Rype FruitSource and FruitSource Plus Veggie 1.3oz (37g) 100% fruit bars are manufactured in a plant that processes peanuts, tree nuts, egg, wheat, sesame, soybean and milk products." Their other products are made in a dedicated facility. -
ARCHIVED How To Do My First Challenge?
ravenwoodglass replied to kimann79's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree for the most part. It might be good at first to stick with hard cheeses like cheddar as they are pretty much lactose free. I would pass on soft cheese like mozzarela for a bit though. If you switch to a rice milk don't get Rice Dream, if you have a Wegmans close by their rice milk is a good one. Other alternatives for cereal and such are hemp or almond... -
ARCHIVED How To Do My First Challenge?
ravenwoodglass replied to kimann79's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Please don't challenge with pizza or cake. Go with something like cream of wheat or triscuits and eat some 3 times a day for a week or until you react. Personally I would do wheat first and then if you haven't had an increase in problems add barley later. My doctor wouldn't let me challenge until I had been symptom free for 2 weeks. Have you cut out dairy... -
ARCHIVED Help! Glutened 9 Days Ago & Still Sick....
ravenwoodglass replied to OldNavyWife's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I say this so often folks are going to think I have stock in Buckwheat, I don't. LOL But one thing that I can eat and seems to be soothing is Cream of Buckwheat cereal, I add some cinnamon sugar and make it with water not milk. It helps my tummy to get something in it when I am nauseous so I do a little bit at a time until things settle down. It can take... -
ARCHIVED Trader Joe's / "shared Equipment....shared Facilities"
ravenwoodglass replied to Redeemed's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I avoid anything on shared equipment also. That said there are some of us who don't but IMHO when first starting out with the diet it is best to stick with unprocessed food for safety and quicker healing. After you have healed you can try some of the riskier stuff and see if you tolerate. In addition if you have gluten eaters in your home you are eating daily... -
Curly's Baby Back Ribs?
ravenwoodglass replied to IngridBeth's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Always keep in mind that gluten reactions can be delayed so it isn't always the last item you ate that got you. Modified food starch in the US is safe unless it has (wheat) after it. Have you deglutened your home? New dedicated toaster, replaced scratched pans and wooden utensils etc. If your DH is not gluten free is he consuming gluten and then are you kissing... -
ARCHIVED "But You Can Eat Whole Wheat, Right?"
ravenwoodglass replied to earthtoneNJ's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Artifical flavors are not ususally a concern. I always check with natural flavors to be on the safe side. -
Yea I have to agree with the other poster that pain and being sick for a couple weeks is a really strong motivator. Some of us do have trouble sticking with the diet because their symptoms are not as strong so it is harder for them. Sometimes I envy those that can take the risks and not suffer as severely. It is always good to find the silver lining in the...

ARCHIVED Has Anyone Suddenly Lost The Use Of One Side Of Ther Body?
ravenwoodglass replied to Ahbee's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am glad you now know what has been going on. I never expected my movement issues to go away. Doctors made me feel like I was off mentally and one even told me I wanted to be sick. I had to relearn a lot also but it can be done. Stay strict with the diet and I hope you can heal as much as I did. I found a physical therapist to be quite helpful. You may want... -
Just make sure you check brand names as sometimes brand names will not be safe but generics will. I take a med that is like that.

ARCHIVED Stomach Flu, What Should I Eat When I Eat Again?
ravenwoodglass replied to Shelabel's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I would go for some Cream of Buckwheat cereal, gluten-free toast, chicken broth with gluten free noodles, white rice and plain baked chicken. Stuff that is for sure safe and rather bland at first. I hope you feel better soon. -
ARCHIVED Worried A New Clinical Manifestation Will Arise
ravenwoodglass replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you have recently been getting glutened that may also be increasing your anxiety. You seemed much calmer for a while so I think that your possible CC issues with girlfreind and your reluctance to discuss what needs to done to keep you safe are contributing to how anxious you are feeling right now. You are saying in other posts that you are now intimate... -
ARCHIVED What Is Going On? Another Er Trip!
ravenwoodglass replied to KimKF's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Good advice and just what I was going to say. The less processed stuff the better right now. -
ARCHIVED I'm Sooo Grumpy!
ravenwoodglass replied to ToriMartin's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You are still recovering and you may still be in withdrawl. Be patient with yourself. If you can get others to help out a bit more for a while that might help a bit. If you don't make it to the gathering use the time to take a long hot bath or shower and to relax a bit. -
ARCHIVED Need Help With Test Results
ravenwoodglass replied to poopedout's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Commonly in the US the genes that are considered to be celiac associated genes are DQ2 or DQ8. Many times none of the other celiac associated genes are even looked for. Gene science is really in it's infancy, IMHO and in other coutries other genes are considered celiac related, like mine, but here some consider them to be 'gluten sensitivity' genes. IMHO...
