  1. Connie I hope your feeling better soon. Could you maybe try going with less processed food for a bit? That might help. There may be something in the BBQ sauce that your body isn't tolerating right now. I know a chicken breast with just salt and maybe pepper or a couple fresh herbs rubbed might be a bit boring but sometimes at first bland and boring is what...
  2. I had an EntroLab test done and my results are as follows: Fecal Anti-Gliadin IGA: 14 Units (Normal is less than 10) Fecal Transglutaminase IGA: 11 Units (Normal is less than 10) Fecal Anti-casein IGA: 11 Units (Normal range is lees than 10) HLA-DQB 1 Molecular Allele 1 0202 HLA-DQB 1 Molecular Alele 2 0609 Seroligcal equivalent HLA-DQ 2,1 (Subtype...
  3. I really hope it helps you. I do think your in the right place. I hope you heal quickly. I forgot to mention you should limit dairy for a bit also. If you are one of us it can be hard to digest until we heal. My doctors wanted an absolute positive on the tests too. That thinking almost killed me as is pretty clear in my signature.
  4. Ask the doc to do a complete celiac panel with a total IGA. Since you are seeing a derm also request that a biopsy to look for DH be done. The biopsy needs to be from the skin next to the lesion not the lesion itself. When all your testing is done give the diet a strict try no matter what the results. You sure do sound like your in the right place.
  5. Give your friend a big hug for me and those animals. The world needs more people like her.
  6. I am glad you are proactive. I would bet those liver panels come back better the next time around.
  7. Try the diet. Please. That looks like a really strange reference range. Did they do a total IGA? If your total IGA is low that will throw off the tests. Also there are some of us who no matter how sick show up negative in blood work. I am one of those and it cost me many years because all my doctors, except the one who finally diagnosed me, trusted those...
  8. What you do now is get on the diet strictly. It makes no difference whether you are 'celiac' or 'gluten intolerant' both need to be just as strict. In additon you do have one of the main celiac associated genes, DQ2.
  9. You will know because your body will tell you. For some of us things like irritability will show up for a week or so when we first go gluten free. Others see a change for the better in things like headaches, aches and pain, energy levels and bowel habits fairly quickly. I for example have never had a migraine since I went gluten free and my IBS resolved very...
  10. I would strongly suggest that you give the diet a good strict try. The results I bolded are common with folks with celiac. It may not be but you have nothing to lose by trying the diet.
  11. In addition if the label only says 'vinegar' it is apple cider vinegar. A few of us can't tolerate distilled gluten grains, most can but not all. I don't so I use great care when I see the word distilled.
  12. Walmart has started labeling their gluten-free stuff. Make sure it has the gluten-free label and that it doesn't have any 'made in the same plant as ....' There are some really good gluten free cereals around. Bakery on Main makes a real good granola. They recently came out with some with oats but I would avoid those at first. Not all of us tolerate them...
  13. Great news!! Feeling better and looking better make all the hassle of this gluten-free lifestyle so worth it.
  14. Im glad to hear you have such a great doctor. Also really, really happy you are not driving yourself. Hopefully with his wise advice and the support you have found here you will soon be a happier and healthier person.
  15. Name brand Xanax is not gluten free. However alprazolam, the generic form can be found gluten-free. I have PTSD and have been on it now for over a year and a half with great success. I have my pharmacist check it at each refill. I now only take 1/2 or 1/4 tab unless I have a excaberation where I need more. The med and a good psychologist and psychiatrist...
  16. I'm sorry you had such an awful experience. I have tried to find him a good home quite a few times but never had any success. Our shelters are overwhelmed and like you I had an easier time with my dog rescues. They were actually easy to find good homes for after I got them back in good shape. One was a real tragedy. His leg had a compound fracture and while...
  17. Have you tried eliminating the most common co-intolerances, soy and casien? I finally got my hair to grow back and stopped new symptoms when I eliminated soy. You could also do Enterolab testing for those along with yeast and egg. It might be helpful.
  18. In addition I would get a hard copy of the test results. Some doctors will consider a low positive a negative. Even one point into the positive range is positive. Also make sure they did a total IGA. If your total IGA is low that will cause a false negative on the other tests. If you are going to opt for a biopsy, and yes there are some with neg blood work...
  19. I have a day off from classes tommorrow and I am going to visit a no-kill shelter close by and talk to them. If they think he has a chance of being adopted then after I talk to the vet to make sure other health issues are not present that may be my choice. I do so wish I could sit the big guy down and talk to him about this issue and have him understand he...
  20. That is a good suggestion. The only problem is the cost of the med and all the follow up visits that would require. I can barely afford the cost of my own med and my every other month visits to monitor it and get refills and their yearly checkups and vaccines are a big burden on their own. So it would depend on the cost. He also is so laid back that a med...
  21. I'm wondering about a health issue also. I will ask the vet. I also wonder if perhaps the 'old lady' may have a health issue I don't know about also or if maybe with her being almost totally deaf if he startles her and her reaction brings out the 'chase instinct' which then scares her further and creates kind of a cycle.
  22. Thanks guys. My kitties are due for a checkup this month and I am going to talk to the vet and also go and talk to the folks at a couple of the shelters close to me and see what they advise. I wish I didn't need to make this decision at all but medical care alone for my furry kids costs much more than I even spend on myself. Until then I will keep doing what...
  23. Thank you for posting this. I am someone who had the neuro effects since childhood but didn't have severe gut reactions until my mid 30's, after my children were born. I hope the news spreads fast. If my neurologist had know this it would have saved me years of pain. Even with brain lesions he said it was 'all in my head and I wanted to be sick'. This even...
