  1. My guess would be that the CC risk is really high with these even if the ingredients appear safe.
  2. I think the reason why no one has replied is none of us can really give you a for sure answer about the drugs. You have to call the maker. You can get a fact sheet from the pharmacy to find the number if they are not checking. You should remind them and make sure that 'celiac' is noted in your file. Your doctor will be clueless about this. Some pharms are...
  3. Sounds like he has a great school staff. Your really lucky.
  4. Yep, the doctor that did the biopsy had no idea what they were doing. Open Original Shared Link A skin biopsy is the key tool in confirming a diagnosis of DH. Doctors take a skin sample from the area next to a lesion and, using a fluorescent dye that highlights antibodies, look for the presence of IgA deposits. Skin biopsies of people with DH are almost...
  5. What brand are they? Quaker brand says they have always been gluten-free and haven't changed ingredients but are now using the label. They MAY have a strong risk of CC since many have reported being made ill by them. Lundberg is for sure gluten free. As to the biopsy how many samples did they take? They should have taken at least 6. Also damage can be...
  6. The NIH would disagree with you on this one. Open Original Shared Link "People with celiac disease can
  7. Not all of us tolerate oats. Sounds like you might be one of the group.
  8. No they are not. Malt comes from barley, a no no for us.
  9. I would suggest that you post this in a new topic. I don't know the answer but others might.
  10. If you want a diagnosis you HAVE to keep eating gluten until your testing is done. Your risk of a false negative is still there on a full gluten diet but you will definately have a negative if you are already gluten free. You could try calling your doctors office and asking if you can have the blood work done before you see her and then give the diet a strict...
  11. If you are already gluten light or gluten free those blood tests for celiac/GI will be negative. I consider both celiac and gluten intolerance to be the same thing, while some others consider gluten intolerance to be what shows up before full blown celiac appears. Both are autoimmune but with GI sometimes other organs are affected before the gut is. Since...
  12. Welcome and hugs (((((((((((((((())))))))))))))))))) I have gluten ataxia. I had it since childhood. It progressed to the point where I had to use canes to walk and my family did extensive remodeling on the house because we thought I would be in a wheelchair soon. Then I was finally diagnosed with celiac. My progress was relatively slow but by the time...
  13. I am sorry for your families loss. I am in this situation now with the exception that we are not close now. Problem for me is I can find an address for one cousin but the other is unlisted. I will be sending the card for the unlisted cousin tucked inside the one who's address I can find. Best solution I can think of.
  14. I have DH and found out the hard way about pads and panty liners. Yes that is a big ouch and not a nice area for a DH outbreak. I know it sounds silly but I used to sandwich them between two pairs of panties but now use ones that can be washed and have no adhesive. I also have issues with some bandaids. I use the Top Care fabric ones with no issues. The...
  15. What I bolded is important for us. Celiac can cause liver issues, especially when we are still getting gluten. Many script drugs do also so doctors will routinely run liver panels before prescribing those drugs. If you are taking an herbal preperation do have your liver panels run and if those are off choose a different drug/herbal rememdy.
  16. The mucous membranes in the mouth are the first place the gluten enters your body. I had a dentist deliberately gluten me by rubbing by gums with something. I have DH and the blisters broke out within a half hour of that. It was another day or two before the gut stuff hit. However it is quite possible to have an allergy to wheat and celiac. An allergist can...
  17. Yes it is possible. Glad you got such a quick response. Your body is clearly telling you that you are doing the right thing.
  18. That loud tummy is something that happens to me now only when glutened. IMHO it sounds like something 'got' you. As to the BBQ sauce I wonder if maybe you are one of those rare celiacs like myself that react to distilled gluten grains. Not a definate as I don't know what their distilled vinegar is derived from but I have never been brave enough to try it...
  19. I am glad you were finally diagnosed. Now you can heal. I think you are wise to make the household gluten free. Be aware though that once the kids are gluten free they will show a false negative with testing. It may not matter now but it could when they get older and go off to college. Doctors advise the whole family be tested when one is diagnosed. It might...
  20. I wonder if you might be right about that. They do taste the same and have the same texture.
  21. I think there are a lot of us that can identify with what happened at that appointment. I am so sorry they were so misinformed. You may want to consider Enterolab or you do have the option of just trying the diet strictly and seeing if it helps.
  22. Yes it is normal for any food to make us feel ill when we are doing a challenge. For one thing your still reacting to the gluten that was in the whole wheat toast. It takes awhile for the gluten to get out of your system and the purpose of the challenge is to keep the reaction going. Some will still have some discomfort while they are healing after they...
  23. I don't know about General Mills and their cereals but the Betty Crocker mixes are made in a dedicated facility. Q: Are the Betty Crocker
  24. Once you have healed it should be easier to put some weight back on. If potatoes agree with you then go ahead. Sweet potatoes are also a good choice. I do my own fries with either type, slice them and coat with olive oil and some fresh herbs and bake. Nut butters if you can tolerate them might be good also. If you can't do things like gluten free pretzels...
