ARCHIVED I'm Probably Have Celiac Disease
ravenwoodglass replied to linkinforcer's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
And you may be able to, as I said I really don't know for sure. There are a few folks here who have had theirs our and they would know better than I. There are some posts that are specifically talking about gallbladder removal. Some are quite recent so you may want to take a look at those. You could find them by putting 'gallbladder' in the board search at... -
ARCHIVED Can Endoscopy Miss Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to klo289's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Where you go from here is a strict trial of the diet. Go with whole unprocessed foods at first to avoid CC issues. -
ARCHIVED I'm Probably Have Celiac Disease
ravenwoodglass replied to linkinforcer's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
First off you need to be eating a low fat diet, as far as I know, when your gallbladder has been removed. It is not uncommon for celiac to be triggered by illness or stress. Whether that is your issue or not I can't say. You should think about getting a celiac panel done as a first step and perhaps an endoscopy. They both do have a fairly high rate of false... -
No that is not overload and he does need to know. Anything they give you needs to be gluten free including the glucose that you will be given for the test.

ARCHIVED Which Would Be More Humane
ravenwoodglass posted a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
This is a hard post to write but I really need some advice. I have 3 kitties. A mother and son Manx, who are 15 and 14 respectively. The mom is starting to really show her age and has become hard of hearing over the last few months. The problem is kitty number 3. He is a huge tabby, as in 26 lbs who is about 11. He was born to a stray who we rescued. She... -
ARCHIVED Waiting
ravenwoodglass replied to missladyj's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It sounds like you have a good BF there. Food diaries can be helpful but celiac can be tricky. Not all of us will get sick right away after eating gluten. For some the reaction can be delayed. You should consider doing a trial of the gluten-free diet. That is one of the best diagnostic tools we have. -
I am sooooo glad you got in touch with the doctor. I would not be surprised if the 'girl' that took your place finds herself looking for a new job. The doctor was justified in being furious. Do bring a book with you for the glucose test as they may not let you leave the hospital between draws. Sometimes they will but not always. Keep us posted on how things...

ARCHIVED Nausea Is Back! :(
ravenwoodglass replied to misslexi's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Is there anything that has changed in the last couple weeks? Are you on any meds and if you are on any are any generic? Generic meds can change binders whenever they choose so make sure they are checked at each refill. Are you taking supplements? IF you are check to make sure they don't have barley or wheat grass. Those are thought to be safe for us but many... -
ARCHIVED Canned Vs Dried
ravenwoodglass replied to DG61's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I would go with the dried. The reason is with dried beans you can 'pick them over' before you soak them. To be on the safe side rinse them well and change the water a couple of times. -
ARCHIVED Waiting
ravenwoodglass replied to missladyj's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I repeat you have a legal right to those. What is your doctor trying to hide? Maybe a low positive on the bloodwork and preceliac changes or notes stating that he thinks you are 'making everything up'. Tell them you know you have a legal right to them. Perhaps copy the pertinent pages from the link you were given. I would get my complete record from this... -
I am glad your okay. I do agree that you should make an appointment with your doctor and get things checked out though. Just to be on the safe side you should get a fasting blood sugar and an A1C. Let's make sure you are not going from being hypoglycemic to diabetic okay?

ARCHIVED Something Really Scary Has Happened
ravenwoodglass replied to masterjen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I hope it rings soon. Since the EEG did produce seizure activity hopefully they will have some answers and be able to help. -
ARCHIVED Genetic Testing Confirmed Celiac
ravenwoodglass replied to LMM's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Great post. The only thing I have to add is that you need to make sure they test for all the celiac associated genes. Many doctors still only test for DQ2 or DQ 8 and there are 7 other associated genes. -
ARCHIVED Waiting
ravenwoodglass replied to missladyj's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would try the diet anyway. You have nothing to lose. If it doesn't help then it doesn't help but it won't interfere with testing for anything other than celiac. I would also get hard copies of the test results and post them here. We have some really knowledgeable folks here and not all doctors are well versed in the changes that are seen in biopsies before... -
What beautiful kitties. I am glad you are taking such good care of them. Check with your vet and see if there is 'Spay not Slay' league in your area. They can help with the cost of spaying, you would pay a third the vet would contribute a third and the league would cover the rest. Also keep an eye out for low cost rabies clinics in your area. The cost is...

ARCHIVED How Is This Possible Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to IsheeFam's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am glad they are going to get her typed for the EDS, if that is indeed what she has. There is also a syndrome that is just hypermobility without the connective tissue issues that EDS has and hopefully that is what she has. I also have EDS. A good physical therapist was invaluable for me. They helped me strengthen my muscles without injury which helps... -
ARCHIVED Aaa-Chooo!
ravenwoodglass replied to conniebky's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would suggest keeping a food and beverage diary for a while and see if there is something that you are consuming at each of those meals. Then eliminate that item and see if it helps. -
ARCHIVED My Cup Runneth Over
ravenwoodglass replied to conniebky's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You are so lucky to have such a thoughtful young lady. Could you maybe go and have the taters and succotash? Thank her and enjoy the time together. There are wheat free soy sauces, perhaps you could pick up a bottle some time and bring it over so if she wants to surprise you again you will be able to enjoy. -
It sounds like you have some great stuff at work and your plan to stock your fridge and cupboards at home is a good one. I really, really, really hate to say this but....your milk cravings could be a sign that your body shouldn't be having it. I know that sounds weird but foods that we react to can often be frankly addictive. For some dairy protein causes...

ARCHIVED Help With 2 Yr Old
ravenwoodglass replied to dnyc's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree completely. You can also do a gluten free trial with her even while waiting for the Enterolab tests and results, since she has already had blood and biopsy. False negatives for children are even more common than for adults. -
ARCHIVED How Is This Possible Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to IsheeFam's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The NIH would disagree with you on this one. The blood tests have a false negative rate of at least 20% according to them. I suffered for a very long time because I am one of that 20%. As to the gene tests, those are not diagnostic. Most doctors do not do them because there are large numbers of people that have the genes but do not ever develop the disease... -
First off why did you take an antibiotic when you just had a bit of a sore throat? And where did it come from? When we get a script for those we are supposed to finish every last one to be sure the little buggies they are fighting are all killed off. Please don't self prescribe. It is dangerous and can lead to antibiotic resistance and even allergy to that...

ARCHIVED Explanation That Comforted Me.
ravenwoodglass replied to conniebky's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think the 70% is a little bit high. Just judging by what I have seen folks write about here I think the numbers are likely reversed, in other words closer to 30% would have the severe withdrawl symptoms. I don't think it 'kills the motivation' though. The withdrawl is usually shortlived if folks are not getting CC'd. My withdrawl was over within a week... -
ARCHIVED Calcium Citrate Question
ravenwoodglass replied to Coolclimates's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The labeling regs for supplements and medication are not the same as for foods. Your best bet is to contact the maker and ask what the starch is derived from. -
ARCHIVED Need Some Help From The Experts
ravenwoodglass replied to naturegirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Are you taking any medications or supplements and if so have you checked to be certain they are gluten free? If not you need to do so. It is not uncommon for other intolerances to come to the forefront after we have eliminated gluten, soy and casien (milk protein) being common. You may want to try eliminating those and see if it helps. Also make sure you...
