ARCHIVED Multaq
ravenwoodglass replied to kenlove's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Your best way to check is to contact the drug company. Your pharmacist should do this for you but not all will. If they won't do it yourself. If the drug is a generic you need to recheck at each refill. If you call the company be sure to ask if any ingredients are derived from wheat, (rye and barley I have never seen in a script med). If you ask if it is... -
ARCHIVED Diagnosed Celiac Without Any Gi Symptoms
ravenwoodglass replied to schandel's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes stress can be the trigger for celiac for some people. For myself it has helped with my reaction to stress. I am much more capable of handling what comes my way without the 'meltdowns' that I used to suffer. I am also free of depression for the first time since childhood. It is nice not to live under that cloud. I had embrassing gut symptoms like constant... -
ARCHIVED Diverticulosis As A Side Effect?
ravenwoodglass replied to lilbit's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
No he didn't but my GI prediagnosis was to put it kindly an idiot. After I was diagnosed celiac he spent most of my next appointment apologizing for not even looking for it any of the times he had seen me previously. We kept him long enough to scope my DD and when I needed a GI later I switched to a different one who I interviewed about celiac in general... -
ARCHIVED Diverticulosis As A Side Effect?
ravenwoodglass replied to lilbit's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I did. Before I was diagnosed I had a colonoscopy and the doctor stated I had the most extensive case of diverticulosis he had ever seen. It was throughout my entire large intestine when it normally is found only in the left desending section. After 7 years gluten-free I had my 'over 50 scope' and the diverticulosis was almost totally resolved. Only a few... -
ARCHIVED Burt's Bees Not A Friendly Gluten Free Company.
ravenwoodglass replied to thaichicken's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
All this is really unfortunate. Burt's Bees used to be an excellent product line. It is too bad they sold out to big business. They also were a US company with their products made here. I wonder if now the products are being made in a foreign country like China which might mean the home company no longer has any idea what really goes into it. I will have... -
ARCHIVED Diagnosed Celiac Without Any Gi Symptoms
ravenwoodglass replied to schandel's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
1. For many of us it is difficult to tell when the disease first hit. Most have a triggering event but not all can pinpoint it. I am able to because I had DH, the skin form of celiac from the time I was about 6. My trigger was being impaled. Shortly after that I was diagnosed with 'poison ivy in my blood stream' to explain how I got the itchy blisters 12... -
ARCHIVED Biochem B-12 3000 Mcg
ravenwoodglass replied to tomtom009's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Country Life makes truly gluten free vitamins. Now is another brand that is usually safe but always be sure to read the full ingredient label even if a label says gluten-free. -
ARCHIVED Biochem B-12 3000 Mcg
ravenwoodglass replied to tomtom009's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Some other vitamins might be absorbed better in a liquid form but B12 is the important one to take sublingually. Also please see the note I put in your other post. Your Alive vitamin may contain barley and wheat grass, these would not be safe for you. The companies can get away with calling these gluten free because they are using the grass. Many of us... -
ARCHIVED Sex Drive Has Disappeared
ravenwoodglass replied to tomtom009's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The Alive brand vitamins have barley and wheat grass. If these are the brand you mean: Open Original Shared Link Alive! Whole Food Energizer Multi Vitamin "Green Food/Spirulina Blend: 500mg -
ARCHIVED 2 Unexpected Places I Found Wheat
ravenwoodglass replied to minamoo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I missed tomato soup so much. Then I discovered Heinz tomato soup in the 'ethnic' section of my grocery store with foods from England. It is imported and last I checked it was gluten-free, I haven't had it in a few months though. If you have a 'British' section like that in a store near you check. -
ARCHIVED Burt's Bees Not A Friendly Gluten Free Company.
ravenwoodglass replied to thaichicken's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The allergen labeling law only covers food. It does not apply to either drugs, OTC or script or to cosmetic and toiletries. Hopefully someday that will change. We don't want to 'steal' their propriatary formulas we only want to know if something is safe for us to use. -
ARCHIVED Could Two Pretzels Really Make Me Sick?
ravenwoodglass replied to Luvbeingamommy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It can be very helpful to go with as much whole unprocessed food as you can. Until you heal try to keep heavily processed food to a real minimum. When you are well healed then branch out a bit by adding items carefully. Some tolerate shared facilities and some don't. It will be easier to tell which group you fall into when you are fully healed. When I am... -
ARCHIVED Biochem B-12 3000 Mcg
ravenwoodglass replied to tomtom009's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
They should be good ones. Be sure to let them dissolve under your tongue or between cheek and gums. I hope they are helpful for you. -
ARCHIVED Testing After Being gluten-free For Six Months
ravenwoodglass replied to Lgood22573's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think Alysoun meant to say a negative blood test after 6 months gluten-free. Your doctor is not very well informed about celaic. He and too many others seem so reluctant to diagnose celiac. You would need a good 3 months of gluten if you want a doctor derived diagnosis. It sounds like you may want to keep looking for a more celiac savvy doctor if you can -

ARCHIVED Skin Symptoms After Sex
ravenwoodglass replied to r0gers's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
This could be the case if your partner is using some nonGF stuff like makeup or lotions etc that are coming into contact with your mucous membranes. Or if your partner is drinking beer or another gluten food or beverage your kissing or then being well.... shall we say extra close and adventurous in the 'kissing' dept. If you catch my drift. -
ARCHIVED Non Celiac Gluten Intolerance
ravenwoodglass replied to AlysounRI's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
In my opinion they are the same thing. Both are autoimmune but GI can attack other organs than the gut before the gut system is effected. Some would consider me GI because of my consistantly negative blood work but as you can see the effects on my body were just as bad. Most of my issues were in place long before the GI symptoms hit, like for almost 30 years... -
ARCHIVED Diagnosed Celiac Without Any Gi Symptoms
ravenwoodglass replied to schandel's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You are one of what is called 'silent celiacs'. Those are folks that have the disease but no noticeable GI symptoms. You are still celiac, there is no doubt about that. It may be hard for you since you are not noticing the symptoms that help key us in when we get glutened however after you have been gluten-free for a bit longer you may start to notice other... -
ARCHIVED Had My Endoscopy Today
ravenwoodglass replied to mamarie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your doctor can't tell just by looking and I do hope he took a few biopsies from different areas. Since you are done with testing you can start a trial of the diet today. Your body may give you the answers before you even go back for the test results. -
ARCHIVED Spices
ravenwoodglass replied to conniebky's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Heinz uses distilled corn vinegar and is gluten free. The organic form used to contain gluten but I don't know if it still does. As the last poster noted it may not be the last meal you ate before you felt ill that got you it could be something from 3 or 4 days earlier. Also what did you eat with the meal other than the ketchup? There are companies, like... -
ARCHIVED Get An Official Diagnosis?
ravenwoodglass replied to pala811's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The decision whether to poison yourself for 3 or more months to get an 'official' diagnosis is up to you. If you still have the 'bumps' and IF they itch horribly and leave a purplish scar that is slow to fade you could try seeing a derm and getting the skin next to the lesions biopsied to look specifically for DH. That is also an 'official' diagnosis of celiac... -
Yes, it grows back. It usually takes about 3 months after the loss stops before it becomes obvious but grow back it does. It should for you to if it is related to the celiac.
-
Yeah I sure did. I also still lose hair for a couple of weeks after a glutening even if the DH doesn't flare. I first eliminated all gluten from shampoos, conditioners and all other topicals and I added biotin to my vitamin regime. I have also had good luck with Country Life's Hair and Nails formula. One thing to be real careful of is topical products like...

ARCHIVED Help! Is It Celiac, Anyone Like Me?
ravenwoodglass replied to Bedbug's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Your not alone. Your issues sound so very familiar to me. I had them all and then some. I also have celiac children who were diagnosed 6 months after I finally was. Interestingly I was close to death at diagnosis but never showed positive on blood work (this delayed my diagnosis for many painful years) both of my children did show up on blood work with much... -
ARCHIVED Party At My House!
ravenwoodglass replied to conniebky's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My choice would be the wine or beer. I only tolerate potato vodkas. There are many of us who can drink distilled gluten with no problems, I am not one of them. Also keep in mind that if you are still healing you may have trouble tolerating alcohol at all.
