  1. You would be better off being strict with the diet. You won't heal until you are. No gluten will mean no gas, you should limit dairy also until you are healed. Please if you do use a gas relief product check to make sure they are gluten free. Not all are and your doctor will not know.
  2. Gene testing can turn up some interesting stuff. IMHO they should gene test all celiacs on diagnosis because there are more than just the two genes tested for that are associated with celiac. I am quite thankful that I didn't have gene tests done until 5 years after diagnosis since they would have diagnosed me with RA and I would likely be dead by now. In...
  3. I'm sorry you lost the egg, if it was abandoned it may have been gone before you even found it. If this should happen again call your local DEC and ask to be put in touch with a wildlife rehabilitator. They will be able to tell you how to care for it and if you can legally do so. Many breeds of birds are protected and you could be fined for trying to save...
  4. You may have an intolerance to cayenne pepper or the spice blend may not have been gluten-free however that right now is not your biggest problem. Your biggest problem is that you have gone gluten free while you are waiting for testing. You need to get back on a full gluten diet today. You have to be eating a full gluten diet for testing. If you are gluten...
  5. What you are likely experiencing is gluten ataxia. It differs from vertigo in that you wouldn't have the 'spinning' sensation that often goes with vertigo. You described it perfectly IMHO when you described it as feeling like you are walking on a boat. I have had it since childhood. Mine got so bad I couldn't walk unaided by the time I was diagnosed. The...
  6. I would get a thermos and bring coffee in from home. I do volunteer work and the coffee pot and everyone's daily plate of coffee cake or cookies is right there with the cups, spoons etc. I only drank that coffee once, now I bring in my own. The CC issues were just too much.
  7. I am sorry you are having to wait so long to get into the GI. You may want to call the office and see if you can get on the cancellation list if you are able to get there on short notice. Do keep eating gluten until after the scope is done. You don't have to wait for the results to give the diet a try, just don't go gluten light or free till after the biopsy...
  8. I second that heartily! Kind of like Pavlov's dog in reverse.
  9. Time to transfer those scripts to a pharmacey that will check. A pharmacists JOB is to make sure that he meds he or she are giving out are safe for the person they are giving them to. I'm surprised the FDA lets them get away with that. In addition if you have a reaction to a med do report the reaction to the FDA. If the med turned out to have gluten that...
  10. IMHO your doctor should have congratulated you for how well your doing. That is a huge drop. She may have gotten a little gluten on your trip but I think that drop shows you are doing well. If she isn't having any symptoms I wouldn't worry about it.
  11. Hi, Welcome to the board. Read as much as you can here and ask any questions you need to. It would be a good idea to avoid dairy for a bit. Let yourself heal for a while, especially since you are noticing problems. Some of us have an intolerance to casein, milk protein, but many are able to add dairy back in after we heal. Some find soy to be a problem...
  12. Call your regular doctor and let them know in vivid detail what is going on. If you can get an urgent care appointment do so. Your regular doctor may be able to get your appointment moved up so you can at least consult with the GI. Your GP can order blood tests, just in case you are already showing up in them. Your GP should also know your history and should...
  13. Your doing the right thing by trying to eat as much whole unprocessed food as you can. As to the meat, if the meat is just meat with no marinades, broths etc it is going to be safe. You don't need to worry about gluten in fresh meat any more than you do in your fresh veggies and fruits. For prepared stuff, like the Heinz ketchup try going to the companies...
  14. You tell him what is going on. If you are being woken up at night by the need to go to the bathroom make sure you let him know. You may want to ask him to test you for celiac, if he doesn't suggest it. He will likely want to do an endoscopy, or he should anyway, and he will do blood tests. Don't go gluten free or light yet as that will effect the tests. After...
  15. Happy Mother's day and congratulations. Get your rest while you can. Thanks for sharing the picture, she is beautiful. Enjoy.
  16. Go with B. There are plenty of places that can use you here and taking care of your health is vital.
  17. This is going to be short and sweet. You have DOCTORS ORDERS to follow the diet. Go talk to the folks at the Disability office. The school needs to either safely feed you or let you opt out of the plan, period. You are covered under the Disability Act.
  18. You can eat gluten free bread. Some of us do have other intolerances like soy or dairy for example. If you have been eating a bread with either or both drop it for a bit and see if it makes a difference. For most of us gluten free bread is just fine as long as it doesn't have something else in it we are also intolerant to.
  19. Hormel makes some gluten free stuff that is shelf stable that you can quickly heat up. I just add some peas or beans to the beef stew when I am too beat to eat. The scalloped potatoes and ham is sure not the stuff 'Mom' made but it is edible and warm. Here is a link to their gluten free page, much of it you could zap at work. Open Original Shared Link...
  20. Here you go I found this by searching with both scleroderma and celiac. You may be able to find more. Open Original Shared Link "Gluten sensitivity and Celiac disease are a known cause of scleroderma and dozens of other autoimmune diseases. Even if tests for gluten sensitivity and Celiac disease are negative or inconclusive, trial of a gluten-free...
  21. In my case they were closely related. Shortly before diagnosis I had a colonoscopy. The doctor stated that I had the most extensive diverticuli he had ever seen. Usually it is found in the left descending colon but for me it was throughout my entire large intestine. We thought perhaps it was because I have Ehlers Danlos but when I was rescoped last year,...
  22. As a former head chef I can tell you that I would certainly not ever eat anything there whether it was from the salad bar or the kitchen. The health dept would cite this place if they knew what it was doing.
  23. In addition to what was already mentioned, does he take any meds, OTC or script? Is he checking those for gluten statis? Also since you refer to his weight in 'stones' are you in Europe? There are gluten free items there that contain codex wheat starch, does he eat any of those? Although considered safe there are celiacs who will react to it. If he consumes...
  24. Actually the sublinguals should not be swallowed or you defeat their purpose. They need to be held in the mouth under the tongue or between cheek and gums until they are totally dissolved. The B12 goes into the blood stream directly through the mucous membranes in the mouth bypassing the damaged gut. You shouldn't eat anything while they are in your mouth...
