  1. Actually that would be helpful when taking any antibiotic. The only thing different that I do is I start with the yogurt the day before I begin taking any antibiotic and continue with it for a few days after. I have only needed an antibiotic a few times since I was diagnosed but that seemed to help prevent the antibiotic caused D very well.
  2. At first you really need to be cooking your stuff at home. There is a risk of CC in any restaurant or cafe sort of thing. If it helps here is what I typically eat: Breakfast Rice Chex or Bakery on Main Granola with Rice Milk, Yoplait or Wegmans yogurt and coffee, eggs and Kinnickinnick toast with Jones All Natural Sausage, Pocono Cream of Buckwheat...
  3. Checking would be a good idea, if you are taking supplements with folate make sure they know this as it can effect the B12 levels. It can look like you have enough when you don't.
  4. I am glad you found us. As mentioned fresh fruit and veggies, single ingredient frozen, plain rice, white or wild, fresh meats, chicken and fish, beans etc are all safe. Some quick prepared foods that are safe are: Dinty Moore Beef Stew (says it right on the can), Hormel makes some prepared roasts, beef and pork that are safe, they also say gluten free...
  5. I had celiac without a doubt since childhood because I had the skin and neurological forms. I had no stomach issues that seemed beyond 'normal' issues until I was 30. I was finally diagnosed at 45. If you read my signature you can clearly see what continuing to eat gluten can do. You have a great source for info and for support here. If you need to...
  6. Gosh I am sure so many of us can sympathize. Good for you for not giving into the Pizza Monster. Perhaps your dinner tonight could be a safe gluten-free pizza covered in all your favorite toppings. If you haven't discovered Gluten Free Pantry's French Bread Pizza mix it will make a great deep dish crust that has all the wonderful things we so love about...
  7. I can't say anything for sure about you of course, but I get a pain similar to that when I get glutened. How long have you been doing the challenge?
  8. Dingo Girl I just love that pic.
  9. Yes it is very exciting. I look forward to reading it. Think how many could be helped if diagnosis was easier and it could be done with people like myself that have non-GI related illnesses for years. The way testing is now so many fall through the cracks and so many lives are stunted by the effects of gluten and they won't be diagnosed in this country...
  10. It depends on whether the chef knows how to cook it gluten free. Do they cook foods other than the potatoes in the fryer? I have found one of the safest foods to order is a baked potato and a steak, chicken or fish that I request the chef to cook with only salt and pepper as seasoning in a seperate clean pan with clean utensils. Keeping my fingers crossed...
  11. Do keep in mind though that gene research is in it's infancy. Not all folks with celiac have DQ2 or DQ8, there are other celiac genes but many places will tell you that you can't have celiac if you don't have those genes. As to the going out issue you need to be just as careful about CC whether you are a celiac or gluten sensitive. It is a common misconception...
  12. Hi Julian and welcome. Are you taking any supplements? Have they checked your B12 and iron levels? When you had the ECG done did they do an ultrasound or a stress test? I think you should consider going back to the doctor. Tell him what is happening. I am not a doctor but I would imagine they might want to test you while bringing on the 'spell'....
  13. I feel the same way. All this cold and snow just seem to get to me after a while. I need flowers to feel my best. Around here this time of year you can get bulbs like daffodils, hyacinths, tulips etc that have been forced. I have even gotten miniature roses. We have them all over the markets especially as it gets closer to Easter. Florists sometimes...
  14. Just a thought, perhaps you could give us the name of the product and see if others here may have already researched it or perhaps use it.
  15. I would keep a careful record of the symptoms and call your doctor regularly to fill him in. Your progression is a common one and I would not be surprised if the D hits with the next day or so. What you are doing is a gluten challenge. If this was ordered by an allergist type doctor they would tell you to stop when symptoms got severe. Your doctor wants...
  16. Thanks all for the replies. It most likely was the magnesium issue. I started taking a calcium-magnesium supplement 1000-500. I have also added a D3 to my daily supplements. It does seem to be helping as the cramping has stopped. I have never been a fan of supplements but I have been doing just a little research and some of us do have issues with absorption...
  17. What I usually do is call the company and ask what it is derived from. Most natural products use either soy or wheat for this. I am allergic to soy and also celiac and not checking can be a real problem for me on more than one level. Most companies consider this to be a gluten free product which is why I ask specifically about the wheat or soy I do NOT...
  18. IMHO when you combine the villious atrophy with the large number of eosinophils etc what you have is a positive biopsy. In addition your positive blood work for antibodies combined with the biopsy results makes it pretty certain that you are one of us. The villi actually have a pretty fast turnover so yes your being gluten free for 12 days before the test...
  19. I don't think he is only using those who have been diagnosed by blood and biopsy in the group. I think he is simply using the folks who he has had tested for antibodies with the stool panel. I could be wrong though. Because of this I am not sure I will be one he includes in the study because I didn't have him check for gluten as I had been firmly diagnosed...
  20. I think you are doing the right thing by seeing your doctor on Monday. IMHO the chance of this being gluten related is really slim and you are very young for it to be related to perimenopause. Let us know what happens at the doctors okay?
  21. I hope things continue to improve. It took over six months for my arthritis to go into remission so I hope soon it does the same for you. If you can get your doctor to refer you to a physical therapist sometimes they can speed things up a bit and get you moving better. It is hard to motivate to move when it hurts to do so and they can help.
  22. Hi I recieved an email from Dr. Fine in part to tell me about the Annual Celiac Camp, wish I could go but anyway this was in the email and thought I would share it with you all. I of course am letting him include me. I had testing done 5 years after diagnosis. "Research Publication Update from Dr. Fine Hello my friends. I am in the final stages...
  23. Some here consider 'gluten sensitivity' to be simply a different presentation or the early stages of full blown celiac. I am one of those mainly because I went through a lot of different systems that were affected. I was clearly 'celiac' from childhood but didn't get the gut effects till I was about 30. Until then my presentation was most skin (DH) and...
  24. I agree totally. Once farming became 'big business' and we started deciding that we could improve on mother nature and we had to be able to keep food 'fresh' and make thing more 'fast' and handy the health in the US started going down hill fast. They bombard our food with all this stuff to make a buck a don't give a whit about what it does to us until large...
  25. Rather than taking her to her GI for this rash it might be a good idea to take her to a dermatologist. They can biopsy the area next to the rash to look for the antibodies. A diagnosis of DH is a diagnosis of celiac.
