ARCHIVED Dropping Blood Pressure
ravenwoodglass replied to hawaiimama's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Do go and get things checked out but try not to worry. There are folks who just have low blood pressure normally and that isn't always a bad thing. Mine was always about 90/60 and didn't raise until I was severly sick prediagnosis. Then it got up to the 140/70 range. The last couple of years it has gone back down to the earlier normal, for me. Until... -
ARCHIVED I Keep Getting Reactions At Work, Help!
ravenwoodglass replied to Tsagamer's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Your biggest danger, IMHO is going to be handling the bag that Mr. Smith just carried while he was eating that doughnut. One thing that might help is to get yourself a package of nonpowdered disposable gloves. They are easiest to find at a drugstore usually by the diabetic supplies. Wear these while at work. Also make sure you have eliminated gluten ingredients... -
ARCHIVED Fibercon
ravenwoodglass replied to LuvMoosic4life's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This part of your query is very significant. It sounds like you may have another intolerance going on. The prime suspects would be casien and soy. Soy in particular can crop up as an issue for many since so much gluten-free stuff has soy. I would go with the cooked veggies, fruit and fish only for a couple of weeks then add in soy for a week and see if... -
ARCHIVED Uncertain About Diagnosis
ravenwoodglass replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Your right there are no toxic levels for this vitamin. It is water soluable and you just excrete any excess. The sublinguals may help quite a bit. For many of us the lower end of the scale is still too low. -
ARCHIVED Are Celiacs Much Shorter Than Parents?
ravenwoodglass replied to driedupfish's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was glad to find this, it answers one of the questions I asked you in a reply to your PM. Please do get the bone growth xrays and consult with your doctor and endocrinologist. There is a chance your plates have fused at 20 but there is also a good chance that they have not. But it will happen soon. If this issue is addressed NOW, and boy do I wish my... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Or Gluten Sensative? Test Results
ravenwoodglass replied to lbones1's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your doctor should be doing an endoscopy, if he isn't he is NOT even looking for celiac. If he is not the doctor that did the blood work get them a copy of it ASAP. As mentioned you are in for a false negative if you stop eating gluten before the test. However if being gluten free is making a really significant difference you don't need a script to follow... -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Results, Autoimmune Illness Questions
ravenwoodglass replied to meg2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You do sound like you should give the diet a good strict try. For folks to be able to interpret test results we need to see the reference ranges on the tests. Different labs have differing ranges. Keep in mind though that 30% of us do not show up in blood work so a dietary trial will most likely give you more info. Give the diet a good strict try. You... -
ARCHIVED Uncertain About Diagnosis
ravenwoodglass replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had the same problems as you with doctors. I think one of the main reasons is that they see us as a bunch of organs specific to whatever their specialty is so when we have a condition that effects multiple systems they are never able to put one and one together. I do hope the joint problems resolve or at least improve a bit for you. If you can get... -
ARCHIVED Has Benefiber Been Good For You?
ravenwoodglass replied to Kenster61's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Because it tests below that level that they THINK we don't react to. Please do report your reaction to the NIH they have a web site where you can report adverse effects to meds. If enough folks report a gluten reaction to stuff like this maybe they will wake up. -
ARCHIVED Uncertain About Diagnosis
ravenwoodglass replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Doctors GRRRRRRRRRRRR I am glad you are now comfortable with things and back on the diet. Try to have patience with the joint and muscle stuff, I know it took a long time for my issues to go into remission and it does for many others too. You should notice a difference soon though even if things don't totally resolve. I hope you heal soon. -
ARCHIVED Positive After 1.5 Years Gluten Free
ravenwoodglass replied to beachbel's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It would help to know how high those antibodies were at diagnosis. For some it can take a while to get down to nonexistant. Although the continued low iron stores may mean you have been getting some inadvertant gluten somewhere. Did your doctors also tell you that you need to be careful of more than food? If you are using a gluten containing shampoo... -
ARCHIVED Which Tests Should I Order, (ttg) Or (aga)?
ravenwoodglass replied to dizzygrinch's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Have them do a complete panel, that would include both. If cost demands only one then do go with the Ttg. Do keep in mind though that the blood test does have false negatives, as does the biopsy so when you finish all your testing try the diet, strictly to see if it helps. -
ARCHIVED Short Stature...
ravenwoodglass replied to driedupfish's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
When a young persons growth is stunted from celiac depends on when they developed the problem. Usually when you have a young adult with growth stunting you can see shortened long bones in the thighs and arms. In other words they seem out of proportion with the rest of the body. Did you go through a growth spurt? Have they done an xray to check where your... -
ARCHIVED Getting Ready To Fast
ravenwoodglass replied to DebNC84's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
You can still have seasonings, just use McCormick single ingredient spices and you should be okay. I agree it sounds like something you are getting on a regualr basis. The Arm and Hammer for sensitive skin is for sure okay, it is the only detergent I use. You going about things the right way, it is tough with DH but eventually those pesky antibodies will... -
You do sound like one of us. You should go ahead and call your GP and talk to a nurse. She may be able to order the blood panel without you having to wait for an appointment. Do not go gluten free yet if you are planning on having blood work or biopsy. You need to be fully gluteny when they test for any chance of the tests coming out correct. There are...

ARCHIVED Getting Ready To Fast
ravenwoodglass replied to DebNC84's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I can understand your frustration. Those blasted little sores can be a bear and they do last for such a long time. Perhaps instead of starving yourself you could go for a bit with just naturally gluten free foods. Do check all stuff that you come into contact with. It may not be something you are eating but something that you are putting on your skin... -
Perhaps your body wants some easier to digest protein than beef or chicken? I find myself reaching for the fish and shrimp much more often than I used to because they are quick, easy to fix, digest and tasty. I see sauteed garlic shrimp on Thai kitchen rice noodles on the dinner menu for me tonight.

ARCHIVED "slight Case Of Celiac" Update
ravenwoodglass replied to ohsotired's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Taking a sublingual form of B12 is very important. Your intestines are damaged and can not process it normally right now. The sublingual is absorbed straight into the bloodstream through the mucous membranes in your mouth totally bypassing the gut. That is the method of delivery your body needs right now. -
ARCHIVED Can You Self Test With Iodine?
ravenwoodglass replied to BarbaQ's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Your right if he has DH. There are many skin problems associated with celiac that aren't. The fact that his skin issues have resolved is significant whether it is DH or another issue. You are right to be concerned about a false negative on a child his age. They are even more common than with adults. The truest test for the need of the diet is the... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Results Received 8/22/08
ravenwoodglass replied to glutenfreewithease's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Those are positive results for gluten and malabsorption. You should get back on the diet. You also have a DQ 1 which predisposes many for more neurological issues, like you are seeing with the seizures. They could very well be connected. It does appear that you are not having as much of an issue with milk protein but you may still want to avoid it while... -
Thanks for posting the link on actual findings from a reliable source that inhaled gluten can be an issue. It is appretiated.

ARCHIVED Getting Scared Over Unexplained Symptoms
ravenwoodglass replied to closure's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you plan on having him do an endoscopy and biopsy on you for diagnosis then you need to stay on a full gluten diet until after the endoscopy. You do need to realize though that biopsies are not for sure and for certain. They can firmly tell you that you do have celiac but a negative is not a for sure that you don't. The only treatment for celiac... -
ARCHIVED This May Sound Crazy...
ravenwoodglass replied to Beth in NC's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Good catch Shay, yes that is extremely important and I forgot to mention it. The Cream of Wheat was what I used when I had to challenge. -
ARCHIVED Bush's Black Beans
ravenwoodglass replied to mama2two's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The modified food starch they use is corn. They are not required to say so because it is corn and corn is not considered an allergin. If it was from wheat they would have to declare it as such because wheat is a recognized allergin. I have never heard of a modified starch made from barley or rye. You can trust them as far as gluten is concerned. -
ARCHIVED This May Sound Crazy...
ravenwoodglass replied to Beth in NC's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
One of the frustrating things about intolerances rather than true allergies is the possiblility of delayed reaction. Different folks react in different lengths of time and some of us can have a predictable 'progression' of symptoms that we learn to recognize. You may see a more of a reaction 3 days from now. Doing a deliberate challenge can have value...
