ARCHIVED gluten-free Diet Research Papers
ravenwoodglass replied to Osprey101's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Perhaps you could try doing a 'reverse' search. Try putting celiac, diet and noncompliance in the search engine and see what comes up. There is a lot of research out there but sometimes it takes a bit to come up with the right words to pull it up. -
ARCHIVED Ankle And Hip Pop Out Of Joint
ravenwoodglass replied to YoloGx's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I got my first pairs at the outlet center near Waterloo NY at the Hush Puppies store. If you don't live here in Upstate NY you might want to google them. I would post a link but I am not sure that is allowed. I will find the link and PM it to you. -
ARCHIVED For Those Who Are Soy Free
ravenwoodglass replied to MyMississippi's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Yes the improvements you are seeing would be included with neurological symptoms. Some of us will have issues with mood such as temper, anxiety depression, some with learning (we call it brain fog ) some will have issues with balance, ataxia, some can have paraesthesias develop which is tingling and pain in the extremities, loss of reflexes. Any of these... -
ARCHIVED Day 2 Gluten Free - Overwhelmed At The Grocery Store
ravenwoodglass replied to bdeanjon's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I second the rice cooker, I use mine a lot. You can also get a slow cooker and that will help also. It is nice to find a hot meal waiting when you get home even if you did have to put it together the night before. If you live in an area that has a Wegmans please get over to it. They label all their gluten free stuff. I don't know where you are but... -
ARCHIVED Do I Have It Or Not? Some Say Yes, Some Say No
ravenwoodglass replied to TimothyRyan's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Soy does it to me. The pain is awful but luckily Pepto Bismal helps for me. The GI gave me a handful of different meds to try after he found it. I had an enterolab test for soy casien and eggs done around the same time. Once I got enterolabs results I cut out the soy and the problem was gone. A lot of us do develop problems with it. The first things... -
ARCHIVED Ankle And Hip Pop Out Of Joint
ravenwoodglass replied to YoloGx's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am so sorry you are going through this. I unfortunately have been there myself ankle wise until recently. I do agree with you that a visit to a physical therapist might be in order. You have had the injury and when it flares you change the way you walk which can stress other parts and throw them out of alignment. I didn't realize that after I injured... -
ARCHIVED Sleep Number Bed = Toxic Mold
ravenwoodglass replied to CarlaB's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I hope once you get this out of the house and in to storage that the issues from it pass quickly. I am so glad you found that article and discovered this. I also hope that it was contained to the mattress. I agree you should have someone come in and check the rest of the home. Do keep track of everything so that your lawyers can address the issue. One... -
ARCHIVED Finger Paints
ravenwoodglass replied to mcs1984's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
No not all are. Since wheat is 'nontoxic' it is in a lot of kids art supplies. You could check with the maker or if you have some on hand reply and give a brand and hopefully someone will know for sure about it. -
ARCHIVED Negative Biopsy
ravenwoodglass replied to Helena's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would say that is a good possibility. You should be as strict as you can. Celiac is like pregnancy there is no such thing as being 'a little bit' celiac (or gluten intolerant). -
This is such great news. She looks so happy

ARCHIVED What's The Deal With Maltodextrin?
ravenwoodglass replied to Angeldp777's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If an item is made in the US as per FDA regs unless it says otherwise maltodextrin is derived from either corn or potatoes. Food made in other countries are another story. As far as vinegars go apple cider and wine vinegars with no added flavorings are safe. Rice should be also but check the label for rice malt as that can be made with rice and barley... -
ARCHIVED Help With Tests....what Is Flattened Mucosa?
ravenwoodglass replied to dizzygrinch's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That was not a normal report. Flattening and scalloping are common findings in earlier stages. So is an excess of lymphocytes and changes in the color of the tissue. He didn't by any chance tell you to go ahead and keep eating gluten and come back in a year to get rescoped did he? Unfortunately that is not uncommon. If so he wants you in full villi... -
ARCHIVED Negative Biopsy
ravenwoodglass replied to Helena's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Does your doctor know that the only gluten item you were consuming during the challenge was oatmeal? If he did that might change his opinion somewhat. You do need to be strict on the diet, unless you want to be giving this GI a lot of money and be taking lots of his symptom relieving scripts in the future. -
ARCHIVED Done Crying Now I Am Angry
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I did get a house with only one, upstairs, duh. As soon as we could we hid a toilet beside the washer in the laundry room. Anyone over 120 lbs and 5'5" wouldn't even be able to get to it. But for little old me it works great. If my ex ever sells the house it will most likely get some really strange looks from the folks who view the house. -
ARCHIVED Done Crying Now I Am Angry
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think he was saying that I didn't need to go to the office mainly because, well I don't need to. If it is just a matter of showing up and saying Hi I am here I would rather not make it more of an effort than needed. He told me to tell the instructor that he sent me and that he said 'She could solve any problem'. I will address the issue after I get... -
ARCHIVED Done Crying Now I Am Angry
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
"I will not shop where there is no bathroom, I always have to scope the place out first...not that I have diarrhea anymore, but I just feel the need to have a facility where I can get too it, if not, then panic sets in and I need one. I won't go to concerts because of the crowds, somedays I will not go anywhere because of the heavy traffic, and it's not... -
ARCHIVED Kozy Shack Soy Pudding
ravenwoodglass replied to rothchild's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I agree with your husband, I would not touch this product. At least they tell you it's in there. That's a step in the right direction. -
Went to another class tonight. For about 5 minutes. Can you imagine this class was in a big trailer stuck behind the main building and to get to a bathroom you have to leave the building and then go either down 3 flights of stairs in another building or wait for an elevator. Yea right, I still have to have a bathroom CLOSE by as I don't have the ability...

ARCHIVED How To Tell Old Doctor?
ravenwoodglass replied to hawaiimama's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
One good thing about celiac is we don't really need the doctors for the healing process once we are finally diagnosed. Sometimes what makes a believer out of nay-saying doctors is the fact that after we have healed our 'problems' are gone. If you can't get your doctor on board just relax and continue your healing. -
ARCHIVED My Doctor Understood!
ravenwoodglass replied to LuvMoosic4life's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sounds like a good GI. I am so glad this was a positive experience for you. -
ARCHIVED How To Tell Old Doctor?
ravenwoodglass replied to hawaiimama's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If you like this guy but he was clueless about celiac, well he isn't alone as far as doctors go. You should have the physician that diagnosed you send copies of your records and the diagnosis. Second opinions on a case should be welcomed by any doctor but if yours balks then you do need to find another. -
ARCHIVED Scd Cures Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to katrinacara's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This is well horse puckky. Celiac is a genetic disorder. There is no cure for it. The SCD diet may be by nature gluten free. What can happen is that after folks have healed when they reintroduce gluten into their diet the antibody effect can take awhile to show up. In addition celiac is an equal opportunity destroyer for any organ in our body and the... -
ARCHIVED Back To School Tonight... 10 Yrs Later
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks for all the support and encouragement guys. I had gotten so restricted by the beginning of this year that I wondered more than once why I bothered still being on this earth. Even though my consious mind knows I am okay now and have nothing to worry about the subconcious would still kick in every time I tried to do anything. I wanted to do things... -
ARCHIVED Can You Still Break Out In Dh For A While After Going gluten-free?
ravenwoodglass replied to GravStars's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
If you have been taking this daily be aware that you may need to taper off. If your headaches get worse when you suddenly stop it, a rebound headache, then don't give up taper your dosing. In addition if you are getting daily headaches and DH outbreaks you may be getting CC'd somewhere. I have pets and just feeding them gluten food and having contact... -
ARCHIVED "manufactured In A Facility That Processes Wheat"
ravenwoodglass replied to *lee-lee*'s topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't consume stuff with that warning. I noticed you are in Upstate NY, you need to check out Wegmans. Even if it is a bit of a drive it will be worth it. They label all their items that are gluten free. They also recognized that gluten grain vinegars are a no for many and do not label items with it gluten free. Thus when you go to the pickle aisle...
