  1. It is amazing isn't it how they can engineer one toxic and addictive substance into so many forms that it is virtually impossible to find it without a science degree. My biggest shock was the day I looked at some mints I used to eat occasionally and read their new label that said - glucose (wheat). Before that I never would have even thought to question...
  2. The stool test actually will tell you more than the gene test. If that was done by enterolab then the 20 on their labs would be a positive for gluten antibodies. Also note that there is a distinction within the medical community between gluten sensitivity and full blown celiac. The damage that is done to our bodies though can be just as severe with gluten...
  3. Just a heads up for you here, Beano is NOT gluten free. If you are gluten-free this is not something you want to be taking. As to the original posters query, I would suspect an egg protein intolerance. This like gluten would cause a delayed reaction, a 'clear out', and a delay in reaction for a couple of days until you had consumed enough again to cause...
  4. The one we used to get was Perry's they mark the ones that are gluten free. Also if you are in an area that has a Wegmans Market they mark all their gluten free items with a circle G. I am sure others will know of other brands but you may have better results if you do a new post with Gluten free Ice cream USA in the title.
  5. Great to hear. It does take a bit of time to heal and many of us have ups and downs for a time at first. I hope the improvement continues at a good pace and I think the B12 will make a difference also once you start it.
  6. Gee what a surprise . Most of us could have told them that already after enduring years of toxic drugs and not even having a doctor think our problems could be solved by a change in diet. I saw a bit on this on CNN this morning and I think they are doing an in depth story on it but unfortunately don't remember the day or time. Karen, completely OT...
  7. ((((((HUGS)))))) I wish I had something to offer other than sympathy. It sounds like it is time for that young man to learn to be an adult but if his Dad won't back you up you are stuck. I also would be looking forward to his moving out, heck I'd getting him dishes etc and packing for him!
  8. Why have two draws? Two copays and a loss of a month out of your life. Your doctor can do both at the same time. Also a negative on the blood test even if not IGA deficient is not absolute conclusive evidence that you are not effected by gluten. The best test to tell IMHO before serious and irrepairable damage is done is your response to the diet. Get...
  9. If you are IGA deficient then that can skew the celiac panel and result in a false negative. Someone who is IGA deficient will not have those numbers go up in response to gluten. Hence the need to also test to make sure that the deficiency is not there. That would be the total IGA if I am not mistaken.
  10. Hi Michelle, What kind of issues are you dealing with that are thought to be EDS related? There are different subtypes of EDS, some of them with only issues with joints and tendons and others can be serious with organ ruptures (uterus many times in women). There are also hypermobility syndromes that are just that hypermobility without any of the connective...
  11. I side with perhaps checking with another doctor, I wonder if your doctor tested you for the intrinsic factor? Lack of that causes true P. Anemia. As stated you should be loaded and then have maintanance injections if you don't make it. What also may have occured is that you were diagnosed based on symptoms and a dropping B12 level, if that is the case...
  12. Try not to worry too much if it was only one time, the neuro should be able to get a handle on it. I was on seizure meds for a few years but have been off them now for a long time. I know what you mean about feeling depressed and alone. For me the depression has lifted but when I was first diagnosed it was awful when it combined with the gluten withdrawl...
  13. Great, isn't it wonderful when we finally start to feel better. If you were diagnosed by endoscopy the endo could be useful in seeing how much you have healed. If it comes back negative you know that you are on the right track, not that your dietary response has not shown that already. He may just want to check on your healing. I am relieved to hear he...
  14. Hi, Your DD symptoms sound much like my DD back before we knew. Her symptoms as with your DD were most pronounced after activity and for a while she was thought to have heart problems. She would start to shiver, get pale and at times her lips would turn blue. My DD was found to have ulcers, and thought to have an anxiety disorder and other problems which...
  15. Short and sweet, you need another doctor as this one is clueless (I thought of many other words to use but they are not very nice). Glad to hear you are having good results from the diet that is the most important thing. I do hope you are taking some sublingual B12 on a daily basis that is going to be really important for your healing.
  16. Once you are on the force it should not be a problem. For one thing once you get a good handle on the diet and you are healed you should not be getting sick as often but that does take time. The one thing you may find is problematical is if the force has a 'boot camp' type of training. They may find it an issue because of your need for different food from...
  17. Your celiac panels done by the lab your chiro uses are very high. They really leave no doubt and while he was the savvy person who ordered your tests they are diagnostic in themselves. Did you take copies of these labs to your regular doctor? He might not feel a need to do the same test over again. Welcome to the ever expanding world of celiac. It...
  18. I hope that something is gluten free or are you in the doctor prescribed 'let's poison you until we are absolutly sure that gluten is killing you because our tests don't show as positive as we want them to" stage that so many doctors needlessly do to us when our bodies are already screaming at us to get rid of the poison.
  19. You may be sensitive to casein and not to lactose, in which case the lactose enzyme pills are not going to help at all. You may need to eliminate casein and not lactose, not easy I know cause I am there right now. There are lots of replacements for cheese and stuff that are lactose free but even a lot of stuff that says dairy free has casien. As to...
  20. You should call your doctors office and see if they already ordered the test. Your total Serum IGA should be able to be drawn at any time, while the Total IGA is not going to be effected if you are not comsuming gluten if your total IGA is low it will cause a false negative on the tests. You say you are consuming gluten for the blood test, how long have...
  21. Along with all my other allergies my nickel allergy has become much less severe. I still would not try wearing costume earring but I don't react to things like my snaps at all any more. All of my allergies have lessened though, some have disappeared totally. I find the Ehlers link interesting as I am also an Ehlers Danlos person and have even seen some...
  22. My seizures were definately linked to celiac and have resolved gluten free. I do still get some mild seizure type reactions when glutened but nothing like I had before. I also developed a pretty severe reaction to soy after being very ill last spring but it didn't seem to cause the seizures to come back. I would definately check things out with your neuro...
  23. I found a bar of Kirks castile soap today and when I called the company I was assured that their products are both gluten and soy free. Has anyone tried their shampoos and conditioners? The soap is really nice and I am considering ordering it on line and am wondering if others like the way it leaves their hair.
  24. Too bad the derma didn't do a draw in August then the blood draw now might have a real purpose. If you have been gluten-free since August you are most likely going to have a negative or at most a real low positive if your antibody levels were extremely high to begin with. Having a test at diagnosis and then retesting lets you see how gluten free you are...
  25. Add me to the list. Although I am no longer so reactive that I have to wear something between the snap on my jeans and my skin. My Mom was allergic also and always said it was a great excuse to buy good jewelry.
