ARCHIVED Cigarettes?
ravenwoodglass replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am a bit upset that a stage company would ask someone to do this. For one thing if the play runs more than one night you do run a risk of starting to like it, as in addiction. It will also if you are a nonsmoker make you dizzy, lightheaded and possibly even cause you to vomit. Not a nice thing on stage. And that does not even address the gluten issue... -
ARCHIVED Tubal Ligation?
ravenwoodglass replied to Glutenfreefamily's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi, just a quick note. I was found when I had my tubes tied to have a great deal of scarring in my abdomen even though I had never had surgery. After I had healed from the surgery my doctor sent me to a PT who showed me how to do gentle stretching excercises that helped to free things up, sorry I really don't know the technical term for it. I don't know... -
ARCHIVED I Have Been Turned Upside-down!
ravenwoodglass replied to silly celiac's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You have already done the most valuable for sure diagnostic process for gluten sensitivity that you can do. Whether you are celiac or gluten intolerant is really of no importance IMHO. You know that gluten is a toxin for you. It is possible even if you poison yourself for up to 2 months to still end up with a negative biopsy, whydo you want to do that... -
ARCHIVED When I Eat Fruits And Vegetables
ravenwoodglass replied to sickchick's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Alex that was my first thought also, that syndrome fits her description to a T. But it is something that should be noticed at other times also. My and my DS's Raynauds and livedo reticularis resolved after a few months gluten-free. Sickchick, you should have an evaluation and testing done by an allergist. Although having said that if you have not been... -
ARCHIVED Which One Of These Foods Could Be Making Me Bloat?
ravenwoodglass replied to Sarah8793's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Just a quick note, apples have a coating applied to them to help them stay fresh longer. That coating is derived from milk. If your Mom has a senstivity to milk products that is why she will react to apple peals. It is used on even the organic ones, she might want to try peeling them and see if she has the same outcome. -
ARCHIVED Tubal Ligation?
ravenwoodglass replied to Glutenfreefamily's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
When we decided to stop adding to our family we chose to have my DH have the vasectomoy after talking to both of our doctors. It is less invasive than a tubal and has less chance of adverse outcomes. A tubal is an invasive procedure done under full anesthesia, that alone increase the risk level. In addition for folks with undiagnosed celiac or gluten intolerance... -
ARCHIVED Vita Herring Now Has Wheat?
ravenwoodglass replied to cycler's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Boy do I wish more companies were like this one. They actually let us know and then let us decide whether we can handle this product instead of hiding it and leaving those of us who are super sensitive to wonder what got us. All companies should be this responsible, it would save folks like me from a lot of pain and/or a lot of time on the phone. It is... -
ARCHIVED Delayed Reaction To Gluten?
ravenwoodglass replied to nikki-uk's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The scratch test is very accurate for true allergies it will not pick up intolerances though. And intolerance is what gluten sensitivity is. I was so far gone when I was finally tested that I was positive for everything except beechtrees. The allergist said my immune system was in hyperdrive and reacting to everything, including my own tissues by then... -
ARCHIVED What Is Up With My Immune System?
ravenwoodglass replied to Miriam3's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was always sick until I had been gluten-free for about 6 months or so. Since then I haven't even caught a cold. That was 4 years ago. (I am knocking wood real hard here now ) I had a lot of autoimmune related problems and was late diagnosis. I have figured that since my system does not have to fight gluten all the time anymore it can better fight... -
ARCHIVED Delayed Reaction To Gluten?
ravenwoodglass replied to nikki-uk's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
One person you could look for is an allergist who will aid you in a true elimination diet. This is where they do allergy skin testing and you also fill out a sheet with your dietary habits. The MD then formulates a beginning diet for you that will be nonallergenic based on the testing and will have complete nutrition. Usually you start with about 5 food... -
ARCHIVED Delayed Reaction To Gluten?
ravenwoodglass replied to nikki-uk's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That kind of a delay is not at all unheard of and is commonly seen in intoelrances. It is a big factor in why it is often so hard to pinpoint what hit us. We all tend to blame the last thing eaten when it may have been contact days before. This delay has something to do with the length of time it takes your body to get an antibody reaction. It is also... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Results
ravenwoodglass replied to lilypad23's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree totally with this. I am diagnosed celiac but when we had by gene tests done we were very surprised that 'technically' I am 'only' gluten intolerant. I have severe neurological damage, gltuen induced arthritis (in remission gluten-free), had daily and nightly painful D, skin problems including DH, and damage to almost every system in my body. There... -
ARCHIVED Dexa Scan
ravenwoodglass replied to Oisin's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
By all means have it done. I have osteoporosis, it was diagnosed right after my celiac was. I chose not to take meds for it and have increased my calcium intake and the amount of weight bearing excercise I do. We will see on my next scan if that alone is helping. -
ARCHIVED Deficiency Questions
ravenwoodglass replied to newceliac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
A week and a half is not long enough on the diet to heal you yet. It took years for you to get as damaged as you are and it will take a bit for you to heal gluten free. It is a good idea to get the levels checked that were mentioned if you can. For one thing after 6 months to a year it is beneficial to recheck levels to see if you are absorbing properly... -
ARCHIVED Yay Blood Test Tomorrow!
ravenwoodglass replied to sickchick's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I do hope the answer to whether you are still on gluten is yes. There is a risk of a false negative even if you are consuming it on a regular basis. Please be sure if you have not already that you give the diet a good shot after all your testing is over. -
ARCHIVED Tomorrow Is The Big Day!
ravenwoodglass replied to newbieva's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I just noticed this and wanted to let you know about something. These finding can also be indicative of celiac damage. I recently had a endo done 5 years after diagnosis with celiac. It is still showing the residual damage in these areas through metaplasic changes. I hope that you will give the gluten free diet a good try, especially if the dairy free... -
There are many who have a great result from seeing these folks. I am unfortunately not one. I had been seeing a well respected naturopath and acupuncturist in my area. The first visit was a long one and we went into great detail so stupid me I felt safe taking what he prescribed without checking it. Big mistake. The first set of meds he gave me had one...

ARCHIVED I Accidentally Had Gluten
ravenwoodglass replied to XxKittykat's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
First if you are not already get yourself some sublingual B12, that will help with the brain fog a bit and with energy. I am not sure how you could have been glutened by the salt, did they put a cracker in it to absorb moisture? You may want to skip the stuff like lunch meat and especially the jelly beans, hopefully you checked those to be sure all the... -
ARCHIVED Boar's Head Commercial
ravenwoodglass replied to NWLAX36Mom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Excellent point. Unless you are the very first customer of the day I would skip it also. There is much more to cleaning the slicer than just the wipe off with a rag that most would do if you ask them to clean it before slicing your deli items. The machine literally needs to be taken apart, the blade and its guard need to be removed and washed and all the... -
ARCHIVED Gluten And Lung Cancer
ravenwoodglass replied to grapevine's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
If family members have tested positive for gluten intolerance then yes they certainly should be following the diet. Many think, at least until they get here that gluten sensitivity is not as serious as full blown celiac. Most because their doctors have told them that. There is so much we don't know about the effects of years of being poisoned by this... -
ARCHIVED Controlling Bodily Functions
ravenwoodglass replied to LilyCeliac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You are not alone, as you have seen. I also suffer from this issue both with bowel and bladder. In my case it is from the damage celiac did to my nervous system. I simply don't get the signals that I have to go until a few seconds before I need to be in the bathroom. Unless I am glutened or for some other reason I am having cramps I basically have no... -
ARCHIVED Adrenal Support Needed And gluten-free Cf Sf Probiotic
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks for the suggestions for the probiotics, I will see if they carry them at my local health food store, if they don't I am sure they will order them for me. I am not really sure I need them at this point as I no longer have any GI symptoms to speak of CF and SF. I gained back 5 lbs in a bit over a week after I dropped the other stuff out of my diet... -
ARCHIVED Adrenal Support Needed And gluten-free Cf Sf Probiotic
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I really don't know if I do or not. The naturopath that 'diagnosed' me based it on a questonairre about my medical history and on basal axillary temp readings. Now I did note that the temp scale he gave for a normal reading was an oral one, if I remember correctly from classes long ago the axillary reading should be between about 96 and 97 which is what... -
ARCHIVED Need Advice I Am Getting Scared
ravenwoodglass replied to mhansen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The key is in your first two sentences. The gluten-free diet is not a script, you don't need the doctors permission to be on it. However you should find at least a GP for other medical stuff. If you feel you need a diagnosis Enterolab does stool and gene testing, this would be valuable to do at some point if only to help speed diagnosis in other struggling... -
ARCHIVED Boar's Head Commercial
ravenwoodglass replied to NWLAX36Mom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That is ironic, someone should suggest they stick a loaf of some kind of gluten-free bread on the set too.
